The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will hold their regular meeting in the hospital library tonight at 6:00. Fifteen minutes prior to the meeting at 5:45, the board will meet for the Public Tax Meeting. After roll call, Stephanie Wofford will give a summary of operations and statistics for the month of July. Carol Lacy will then report on nursing and ancillary services. Administrator Dennis Pryor will then give the auxiliary report, review the hospital activity calendar, and then give updates on the construction at the hospital and legislative issues. In old business, they will give an update on the strategic planning goals. In new business, purchases will be reviewed and they will make finance committee appointments. The November meeting will be scheduled for Tuesday, November 22nd. The December meeting will also be set, as it will be on Thursday, December 8th at 5:30 at the Holiday Inn Express. The employee holiday dinner and awards will be held Friday, December 9th at the Salem City Hall. The meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 9:10 Wednesday morning in Crawford County on Highway 8 about five miles east of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 18 year-old Lea Owens of Steelville pulled out of a private drive into the path of a 1994 Toyota truck driven by 22 year-old Kole Aston of Steelville, and contact was then made. Owens suffered serious injuries and was air lifted to St. John’s in Creve Coeur by Air Evac. Aston suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by Steelville ambulance. Aston was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident, and it is unknown if Owens was wearing hers. The Chevrolet was totaled in the accident and the Toyota sustained extensive damage. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Miles Towing.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will hold their regular meeting tonight in the District Administrative Offices Board Room at 6:00. To start the meeting off, the Board will hold their tax rate hearing. They will then adjourn the tax rate hearing and call the regular meeting to order. After approval of the agenda, the superintendent will discuss the professional development days, the opening of school, the MSBA fall meeting and annual conference, and then give the No Child Left Behind annual yearly progress report. In new business, the board will approve the 2010-2011 annual Secretary of the Board report and the tax rate. The board will also approve the official 2011-2012 budget and discuss the A+ Partnership Plan and resignations. The board will then adjourn and move into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts, property damage, burglary, and fraud. On Sunday, August 7th at 1:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of E. Roosevelt in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 48-year old Salem man for domestic assault and resisting arrest. The subject was incarcerated pending the issuance of warrants. That same day at 1:30 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to Sonic at 500 E. Highway 32 in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took from an unsecured vehicle an undisclosed amount of money. On Monday, August 8th at 6:00 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Mobil at 1103 S. Highway 19 in reference to leaving without paying for fuel. The investigation revealed that a female driving a maroon car, pumped $38.44 of fuel and left without paying for the fuel. The report is under investigation. On Wednesday, August 10th at 7:30 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 1200 block of S. McArthur in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 24-year-old Salem man for the burglary. He was incarcerated pending the issuance of a warrant. That same afternoon at 1:00, an officer was sent to the 800 block of W. Glendale in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown had shot four windows with a BB gun. Anyone with information on the thefts, property damage or burglary is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Allen Craig finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI, as St. Louis avoided a sweep with a 7-2 victory over Pittsburgh. Yadier Molina contributed three hits and drove in a run for the Cardinals, who got two hits apiece from Rafael Furcal and Ryan Theriot. Kyle Lohse (11-7) worked seven innings for the win, allowing five hits and two runs with seven strikeouts. The Cards are off today.

Billy Butler's controversial round-tripper capped a four-run third inning, helping the Royals to a 5-4 win over the New York Yankees. Alex Gordon clubbed a three-run shot earlier in the frame for Kansas City. Bruce Chen (8-5) yielded seven hits and three runs over six innings, and won his third straight start. Joakim Soria notched his 22nd save. The Royals broke a four-game slide and won for just the second time in their last 10 games. The Royals play Boston tonight.

Funeral services for Earnie Bowen of Salem, age 55, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County 4-H.

Funeral services for Richard Franklin Johnson of Steelville, age 90, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Family Life Fellowship Church in Moberly. Visitation will be held tonight from 5:00-8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Missouri.

Funeral services for Joseph E. “DD” Thompson of Bunker, age 79, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service time. Interment will be in the Piatt Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Funeral services for James Noil Thomas of Salem, age 82, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Jeremy Steven Kirkpatrick of Fenton, formerly of Rolla, age 30, will be held Saturday at 12:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Memorial service for Elisabeth Jane “BJ” Kinyon of Rolla, age 80, will be held Saturday, August 20th at 1:00 at the Christ Episcopal Church of Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Christ Episcopal Church of Rolla building fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
