The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 4255, 5650 and 6500; while materials will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Roads 4150 and 6435. Purcell said that Dent County Road 6190 will be brush cut and creek rock will be hauled. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2070, 2080, 4260, 5200 and 5225. He said that road crews are still working on rebuilding Dent County Road 2250, and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 3330. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a Transportation Advisory Committee meeting last Thursday where they reported that the new roundabouts have reduced serious traffic accidents in areas where they have been installed. There are currently two in Rolla. Skiles said that the sales tax revenues last month were down $117, but the year-to-date revenues are still $4,600 more than last year. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Livestock Show was held Friday with the auction being held on Saturday. Award winners at the show included Shelby Martin with the Grand Champion Cured Ham while Olivia Elliot had the Reserve Champion Cured Ham. In market lambs, the Overall Champion Lamb and Daily Gain Champion Awards went to Blaine Fleener with Brooke Adams earning the Reserve Overall Champion and Reserve Champion Carcass Awards. Kayla Gott won the Champion Live Show and Champion Senior Showmanship Award for her lamb, while the Champion Carcass Award went to Londyn Cook. Jordan Shults received the Reserve Grand Champion Live Show Award, Allie Fleener captured the Reserve Champion Daily Gain Award and Brooke Shults won the Champion Junior Showmanship award. In market hogs, Tyler Wofford won the Overall Champion Hog and Champion Carcass Awards, and Sierra Hagler received the Overall Reserve Champion Hog and took the Live Show Champion Awards. Cody Wofford raised the Live Show Reserve Champion hog, while Lane Howard’s hog won the Champion Daily Gain Award. In the hog division, Cami Barnitz was the Senior Showmanship Champion and Brady Hagler was the Junior Showmanship Champion. Dalton Smith’s hog took the award for the Reserve Champion Carcass and Garrett Welch had the Reserve Daily Gain Champion hog. In market steers, the Overall Grand Champion and Carcass Champion Award went to Kayla Gott. Hannah Headrick’s steer captured the Reserve Overall Champion Award while Mackenzie Wulff received the Live Show Reserve Champion Award. Tyler Wofford won the Senior Showman Champion and he raised the steer that was the Daily Gain Champion. Cody Bell captured the Live Show Champion Award and Bailey Martin’s steer was Reserve Carcass Champion. The steer raised by Lindsey Purcell took the Reserve Daily Gain Champion Award, and Brady Hagler was the Junior Showman Champion. Congratulations to all the FFA and 4-H members and their animals for a fine show and auction at the Dent County Fall Festival. 

The Public Water Supply District #1 of Dent County will conduct their monthly meeting at the Salem Housing Authority tonight beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting, there will be several reports including financial reports, the water testing reports, the president’s report and a bookkeeping report. There may then be a general discussion and the Board will address any new business on the agenda. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Public Water Supply District #1 of Dent County is open to the public.

The Dent County 4-H and FFA Livestock Auction Saturday brought in a record $124,165.75 from buyers for the 100 items that were auctioned. The leading buyers in terms of animals purchased included Canoak USA who purchased a cured ham, six hogs, a lamb and five steers; the Bank of Salem who bought four hogs, a lamb and four steers; Intercounty Electric who purchased a ribbon, a lamb, three hogs and two steers; Interstate Regional Stockyards who bought a cured ham, a hog, two lambs and two steers; Oakwood Mule Farms who bought a hog, a lamb and three steers; Progressive Ozark Bank who purchased a hog and four steers; Salem Livestock Auction who bought four hogs, and Town and Country Bank who purchased two hogs, a lamb and a steer. There were a total of 38 buyers in all who purchase the eight cured hams, 15 lambs, 50 hogs and 25 steers.

The 12th Tiger Club is sponsoring a Football Parade to be held on Friday, August 27th. That will be the Salem Tigers first home football game against Thayer. Businesses, clubs, organizations, churches and individuals are encouraged to participate in the parade. Floats should line up around 5:30 between the Dent County Courthouse and East Salem Hill. The parade will take off around 6:00 pm and will arrive at the Salem Tiger Football Stadium before kick off. For more information contact Stephanie Floyd at 247-1441.

The St. Louis Cardinals were off yesterday and will open a short two-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight starting at 6:55 on KSMO Radio. Jaime Garcia will be on the mound tonight for the Cardinals who remain a game behind the Cincinnati Reds in the National League central Division.

The Kansas City Royals also had the day off yesterday and open their series with Cleveland tonight with Zack Grienke on the mound.

Funeral services for Casey Brown of Licking, age 13, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Hutchason Cemetery.

Funeral services for Rosie Bell Shivers of Sullivan, formerly of St. James, age 91, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Assembly of God Church in St. James. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Graveside services will be held at the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Potosi at 1:30. Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Church in St. James or Sullivan.

Cremation arrangements for Sharon Kay Kerrigan of Omaha, Nebraska, age 53 are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Graveside services for Georgia K. Wisdom of Salem, age 75, will be held at a later date in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
