The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their regular meeting. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5140 and 5220, and only grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5020, 5440 and 5460. He stated that patch grading was going to be done in the Jadwin area and brush was going to be cut on county roads 4243, 5040, 5043, 5135, 6640 and 6665. He did say that one man would be cleaning the chip and seal patcher, getting it ready for use. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated that materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 2110, while just grading was going to be done on county roads 4050, 4055 and 4480. Larson went on to say that brush would be cut on county road 2120. Presiding Commisisoner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the Southern Ozark Alliance for Rural Development meeting Tuesday in West Plains that focused on health care, economic development and education. Skiles said education of the youth was the common denominator for the success addressing the issues. Skiles also wanted to thank 8^th District US Representative Jason Smith for stopping by the courthouse Wednesday and visiting with the elected office holders. At the last meeting, Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley discussed Burlington Northern Railroad Right-of-Way property that is in Crawford County that is deeded to Dent County. The Attorney for Nick and Randy Mathews requested the county do a quit-claim deed on the right-of-way property and the commissioners approved that request. Misti Ball from the Prosecutor’s Office brought in the quit-claim deed for the railroad right-of-way Thursday morning for the commissioners to sign. Also at the last meeting, Curley informed the Commissioners of a federal lawsuit that may require the prosecutor’s salary go from $116,858.40 to $132,372.36. The county prosecutor’s salary in Missouri is tied to the Associate Circuit Judges, which is also tied to the Federal Judges. The next meeting of the commissioners will be Monday at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public. 

The Salem Police Department released their reports for the end of July. On Tuesday, July 30^th at 10:10 in the evening, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of East Third in reference to a disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 24-year old Salem female was intoxicated, acting violent, and causing property damage. She was taken into custody for disorderly conduct issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. That afternoon at 3:05, an officer was called to the 1500 block of South Macarthur in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a 2009 Pitster Pro mini bike, valued at $2,500, from the yard of a residence. On Wednesday, July 31^st at 1:25 in the morning, an officer transported a 23-year old Springfield male to Poplar Bluff Medical Center in Poplar Bluff in lieu of a mental commitment order. That afternoon at 4:50, an officer observed a 32-year old Salem male in the 100 block of South Warfel who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and later released after paying the fine and cost. At 9:05 that evening, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1300 block of South Gertrude in reference to an intoxicated female going door to door causing a disturbance. The investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year old Salem female for disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer, and resisting arrest. She was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Thursday, August 1^st at 8:00 in the evening, an officer observed a 24-year old Salem female with an open container of alcohol near Third and Highway 19. She was taken into custody, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. On Friday, August 2^nd at 3:00 in the morning, a 40-year old Cuba female was transported to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla in lieu of a mental commitment order. There will be a 12^th Tiger Booster Club meeting with Coach Mac, and a Blue/White Football Scrimmage for the 2013/2014 Salem High School Football Tigers on Saturday, August 17^th beginning at 9:00 am at the Salem Tiger Football Field. Those in attendance are asked to donate $1 for the Austin Reed family. Also, 12^th Tiger Club Booster shirts will be available at the scrimmage for sale. If you can’t make it to the scrimmage and want a shirt, contact Stephanie Floyd at 247-1441 before they are all gone.

Matt Holliday's RBI single in the bottom of the 12th lifted the St. Louis Cardinals over the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-5, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Carpenter finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Cardinals, who moved within two games of Pittsburgh for first place in the NL Central. Holliday and Daniel Descalso each knocked in two runs. St. Louis starter Lance Lynn allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out six over 5 1/3 innings. Kevin Siegrist (1-1) got the win after pitching a scoreless top of the 12th. The Cardinals will start a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs today and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 2:30.

The St. Louis Cardinals activated catcher Yadier Molina and outfielder Shane Robinson from the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals placed catcher Tony Cruz on the 15-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his left forearm and optioned infielder Jermaine Curtis to Triple-A Memphis in corresponding moves.

Andy Dirks had a pair of doubles among his four hits to go with two runs scored in the Detroit Tigers' 4-1 win over the Kansas City Royals in the opener of a five-game set. Jeremy Guthrie (12-9) allowed four runs on 13 hits over seven frames for Kansas City, which has dropped three straight following a 17-3 stretch that put the Royals in contention for a postseason appearance. Alex Gordon's RBI single in the opening frame staked Kansas City a quick 1-0 lead, but the Tigers answered with a pair of runs in the home first and added two more in the fifth to give them a 4-1 advantage. The Royals and Tigers play a double header today.

The Kansas City Royals have acquired veteran infielder/outfielder Emilio Bonifacio from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. Bonifacio is hitting .218 with three homers this season.

Funeral services for Marvin Godbey of St. Charles, age 84, was held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment was in the Shoal Creek Cemetery in Steelville with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Parkinson’s Foundation, or the charity of your choice.

Funeral mass for Paula Dent formally of Salem, age 82, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. Visitation will be Sunday night from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Salem.

Funeral services for Albert S. Lada of Independence, formerly of Viburnum, age 82, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Inetrment will be in the Boss Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Eastpoint Family Church-Chirdren's Church.

Military services for Cecil R. Crowe of Salem, age 86, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
