The Salem Police Department released reports for Monday, July 29th. At 11:00 in the morning, an officer was contacted in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a Kent girls bicycle, valued at $100, from the yard of a residence in the 800 block of North Pershing. At 1:02 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to C&E Motors in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that someone broke the front passenger side glass on a white 1997 GMC Safari van, valued at $250. Later that afternoon at 2:24, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 30-year old Salem female on an active arrest warrant from Belton. She was issued a court date and released after posting bond. At 3:46 that afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to vehicle repossession. That investigation revealed that a 28-year old male and a 26-year old male, both of Salem, brandished weapons while repossessing a vehicle. They were arrested and incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Then at 4:19 that afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 36-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from Miller County. He was issued a court date and released after posting bond. At 4:27 that afternoon, an officer was contacted in reference to a stolen bicycle. The investigation of the report revealed that someone unknown took a copper color Mongoose bicycle, valued at $110, from a residence in the 200 block of South Jackson. At about 5:24 that same afternoon, an officer was contacted in reference to a stolen bicycle. The investigation of the report revealed that someone took a lime green bicycle, valued at $100, from a residence in the 200 block of South Henderson. Later that evening at 8:47, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of West Seventh to assist the ambulance crew. During the investigation, a 37-year old female and a 30-year old male, both of Salem, were found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.  They were taken into custody and released pending lab results. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage or stolen bike reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 573-729-4242.

The National Park Service is seeking concession proposals for a Canoe and Tube Rental, Shuttle Service, Ferry Operation, Camp and Retail Merchandise Store and Firewood Sales at Akers Ferry, Ozark National Scenic Riverways. The term of the new concession contract is for ten (10) years. Interested parties in this business endeavor can request a concession prospectus from: Tracy Simmons, Commercial Services Specialist, Midwest Regional Office, National Park Service, 601 Riverfront Drive, Omaha, Nebraska 68102. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports. On Thursday, August 8th, a male reported that his residence on Highway WW had been burglarized. He stated that on or about July 18th he was in Peoria, Illinois and upon his returning to his residence he discovered several items missing. Items stolen included: a Jemenes 380 caliber semi-automatic pistol valued at $175, two Husqvarna chain saws valued at $125 a piece, a Hobart wire feed welder for $250, a Lincoln stick welder valued at $135, and half bottle of medication. On Saturday, August 10th at about 7:15 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a call concerning a possible stranded motorist on County Road 6150 in close proximity to the low water bridge. A deputy responded to the area and was able to make contact with the stranded motorist and through further investigation the subject was identified as Cody Amsden whom had a active felony warrant through probation and parole. Mr. Amdens was arrested and transported to the Dent County Sheriff's Office for further processing. On Sunday, August 11th at about 6:00 in the evening, the victim, while in the Dent County Jail notified the on duty dispatcher that her vehicle had been stolen from her residence out in Lenox. She stated that she had received a phone call from one of her relatives who informed her that her vehicle was not at her residence. Deputies responded to the residence to confirm the report of the stolen vehicle. On arrival officers searched the area around the residence and couldn't locate the vehicle described. The vehicle is a red 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary or stolen vehicle, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241.

Francisco Liriano threw his third career complete game and the Pirates ensured themselves of leaving St. Louis in sole possession of first place in the NL Central as they beat the Cardinals, 5-1. Shelby Miller (11-8) surrendered eight hits and five runs, three earned, over six innings in the middle test of this three-game series. The Cardinals and Pirates play again this afternoon and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 12:10.

Logan Morrison and Donovan Solano each had two hits and a pair of RBI in the Miami Marlins' 5-2 win over the Kansas City Royals in the rubber match of a three-game set. Kansas City starter Ervin Santana surrendered a run on eight hits and two walks over six frames in a no decision for Kansas City, which has dropped back-to-back tilts. The Royals will start a five-game series with the Detroit Tigers tonight.

St. Louis Rams linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar has been suspended for the first four games of the upcoming 2013 season after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Dunbar is coming off the most productive season of his five-year NFL career, starting all 16 games.

Funeral services for Wanda Charlene Thompson of Columbus, Georgia, formerly of Salem, age 83, will be held today at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Georgia.

Funeral services for Marvin Godbey of St. Charles, age 84, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Shoal Creek Cemetery in Steelville with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Parkinson’s Foundation, or the charity of your choice.

Funeral mass for Paula Dent formally of Salem, age 82, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. Visitation will be Sunday night from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Salem.
