The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2480, 5630 and 5680; and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5180. He stated that materials were going to be added to Dent County Roads 4210 and 6220. Purcell went on to say that repairs were being made to Dent County Truck #155 and that maintenance is being done on one of the brush cutters. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2120, 2135, 3300 and 4330. He said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2020 and 2070, and that one man would be screening brown rock. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he was at CCAM board meetings Wednesday through Friday to set up the Commissioner training that will be held February 6th through the 8th in 2013 in Jefferson City. Skiles said that the hotel contract proposals were approved for the training. He also said that he would going to Wurdack Farm Tuesday (today) at 2:00 for the Claire McCaskill “Fighting for our Farmers” barnstorming tour concerning the drought and how it is affecting farmers. City of Salem Mayor Gary Brown came to the meeting and brought a brochure from the Meramec Regional Planning Commission about the Missouri On-Site Wastewater Improvement Loan Program that can provide funding for people looking to replace or make improvements to their failing septic system. He also mentioned that the MRPC has asked him if the City of Salem and Dent County would like to hold their annual award banquet and dinner in Salem in November. Brown said that he had not had a chance to bring this up to the board yet, but wanted to make sure that the county knew that they had been asked to host the event that would be held on November 8th. Since hosting the banquet was only being brought up to inform the commission of the request from the MRPC, no action was taken. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams came in with the sales tax figures for 2012 year. Receipts from January through August in 2012 are $20,052.88 ahead of last year’s tax receipts for eight months even though the month of August receipt was down about $600 from last year. The increase in Dent County in 2012 is about 3.9% more than receipts in 2011 for the same time period. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of July. During the month, they wrote five equipment repair orders, 23 summons to appear in court, 19 warning tickets, and 22 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 11 accidents, five assaults, two burglaries, four reports of disorderly conduct, one report of domestic assault, one report of domestic violence, two reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of endangering the welfare of a child, and one report of harassment. The department also investigated one report of littering, one report of a lost or stolen plate, one report of a minor in possession of intoxicants, three reports of open containers, ten reports of property damage, one report of rape, one report of sexual abuse, 20 reports of stealing, and three reports of trespassing. The police department received a total of 2,009 calls for service during the month, handled 143 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 78 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 28 hours in court testifying, and five hours as court bailiff. The calls in July included 59 calls for escorts, four calls for an intoxicated driver, three calls for a prowler, seven calls for a suspicious person and or vehicle, four calls for an intoxicated pedestrians, nine calls for domestic disputes and three calls for a wrecker. There were three 911 calls, two calls for a peace disturbance, 11 calls for alarms sounding, five calls for fights in progress, 11 ambulance assist calls, two fire calls and two calls for property damage. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 6,882 miles and arrested 12 males and 13 females during the month of July.
The public is invited to bring their ideas to an informational meeting on Friday, August 24th, at Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park near Lesterville. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the informational meeting will begin at 5:00 pm at the park’s Black River Center. Visitors are invited to share comments on the park’s services and operations. This informational meeting is part of an ongoing effort by Missouri State Parks to ensure citizens have input on the facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites. Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park is located 13 miles south of Pilot Knob on Highway N. The 12th Tiger Club is sponsoring a Football Parade to be held on Friday, August 24th. This will be the first home football game for the Salem Football Tigers. Businesses, clubs, organizations, churches and individuals are encouraged to participate in the parade and show their Tiger Pride and Spirit. Floats and vehicles should line up around 5:30 pm, between the City of Salem Administration Building and the East Salem Hill. The parade will take off around 6:00 pm and will arrive at the Salem High School Football Stadium before the beginning at the game. The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday but will start a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight at Busch Stadium. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio starting at 6:40. The Cardinals are seven games back from the Reds for the lead in the NL Central but are only two games back from the final wildcard spot.
The Kansas City Royals also had the day off yesterday but they will start a three-game series with the Oakland Athletics tonight at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals are in last place in the AL Central with a record of 49-65.
The St. Louis Rams announced on Monday that the club will not play home games in London in 2013 and 2014 to focus on the Edward Jones Dome First Tier Process with the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission. The Rams will play the New England Patriots on Sunday, October 28th, 2012 at London's historic Wembley Stadium as previously announced.

Funeral services for Harold Eugene White of Salem, age 78, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Blackwell Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Phelps County Regional Home Care.
Funeral services for Everett Fred Schoen of Salem, age 84, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Weese Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Schoen family.
Graveside services for Robert L. Bartlett of St. Petersburg, Florida, age 94, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Steelville Cemetery with Military Honors. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
Memorial services for Dona C. Smith of Salem, age 69, will be held Saturday at the home of Phillip Christ on Doss Road. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
