At Monday night’s special aldermen meeting, they announced some proposed building code changes and introduced a two-week comment period that will end at 5:00 pm Monday, August 25th. Forms to be used for comments are available by contacting City Hall at (573) 729-4811 or by sending an email to cityadministrator@salemmo.com. Copies of the codes are available for review at the City Administrative Office Building in the old Economic Development Director’s Office at 400 N. Iron St., between the hours of 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Codes that are to be revised include the 2012 International Building Code, the International Fuel Gas Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code and International Residential Code. The codes are also available online at http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/icod/IC-P-2012-000019.htm. Questions about the proposed codes or the adoption process can be directed to City Administrator Ray Walden at (573) 729-4811 or e-mailed to cityadministrator@salemmo.com.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released their reports. On Sunday, August 3rd, two residents of County Road 6283 in Jadwin arrived at the Dent County Sheriff's Office to report that several items had been stolen from their residence. The items stolen were listed as (2) pistols; (1) rifle; (1) side-by-side shotgun; some prescription medications, and a set of sockets.  The value of the stolen items was estimated at $2,317. On Wednesday, August 6th at 11:57 at night, Rolla Central Dispatch contacted the Dent County Sheriff's Office to report a domestic disturbance in the 4000 block of County Road 2010. Deputies responded and began an investigation. The investigation revealed that a male, identified as 35-year old Daniel Hood of Salem, had been involved in a domestic assault. Hood was reported to have assaulted, choked, feloniously restrained, and stolen the cellular phone of a female victim. The phone was tracked to Rolla. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Rolla Police Department in apprehending the subject. The Rolla Police Department detained Hood and Deputies retrieved him from the Rolla Police Department station. Hood was booked into the jail and is currently being held on a $50,000 cash only bond for Domestic Assault 1st Degree, Domestic Assault 2nd Degree, and Felonious Restraint. On Sunday, August 10th at 2:00 in the afternoon, deputy's conducted a traffic stop on Highway 19 North near North Lawn Cemetery.  The driver was identified as 26-year old Dustin M. Hodges of Salem, who was revealed to have a revoked driving status. As a result of the stop, Mr. Hodges received two citations, driving while revoked and failure to maintain financial responsibility.  Anyone with any information regarding the stolen items is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office at 729-3241.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the five individuals that stopped to clear OO Highway on Sunday. You took time out of your busy schedules, used your chainsaws and sweat, to clear a very large tree from the highway allowing the road to be reopened quickly. You put the safety and well-being of the community first.

The City of Salem Fall Youth Soccer & Youth Flag Football programs are just around the corner. Fall Youth Soccer will be for children age 4-12 and Youth Flag Football will be for children in 3rd thru 6th grades. Sign-ups will be held in the front lobby on Thursday, August 14th and Friday, August 15th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and on Saturday, August 16th from 9:00 am to 12:00 (noon) at the Salem Community Center located at 1200 West Rolla Road. Final sign-ups will be held Thursday, August 21st and Friday, August 22nd from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The cost for the Fall Youth Soccer and Youth Flag Football is $20 per child. The 12th Annual Football Parade will be held on Friday, August 29th. Groups can line up starting at 5:30 on the East Salem Hill and the parade will begin at 6:00. All businesses, clubs, youth groups, etc are welcome to attend. For more information, call Stephanie Floyd at 247-1441.

Jarred Cosart pitched seven shutout innings and earned his first win with the Miami Marlins, who held on for a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. Adam Wainwright (14-7) allowed seven hits and a walk in seven innings for the Cardinals, who have lost four of five. The Cardinals and Marlins play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 5:35.

Josh Donaldson homered twice and the Oakland Athletics defeated the surging Kansas City Royals, 11-3, in the second of four games. Nori Aoki, Salvador Perez and Alcides Escobar each drove in a run for the Royals, who had their eight-game winning streak come to an end. Starter Jeremy Guthrie (8-10) gave up 11 hits and six runs, four earned, over 4 2/3 frames in defeat. The Royals and A’s play again tonight.

Funeral services for Ronnie McNail of Viburnum, age 54, will be held today at 2:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery in Oates. Memorials may be made to the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker for expenses.

Graveside services for Valrie Medlock of Salem, age 96, will be held at 10:00 Thursday morning at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem Long Term Care. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Viola Marshall, age 98, will be held at 11:00 Thursday morning at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, National Parkinson’s Association, or New Hope Presbyterian Church of St. Charles.

Funeral services for Frank Wayne Jarvis Jr. of Salem, age 40, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family of Frank Jarvis Jr.

Visitation for David Oprean of St. James, age 69, will be held Friday from 10:00 to 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Southard Cemetery.
