The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that a crew would be on Dent County Road 6250 installing a culvert, adding material and doing ditch work. Simpson also said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6660 and 6670 and white rock would be hauled to Dent County Road 5170. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done in the Sligo area on Dent County Roads 4030 and 4480 and material would be hauled to Dent County Road 4020. Tune also said that grading would be done in the Boss area and a crew would be on Dent County Road 3170 working on a bus turn around. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he and Dent County Emergency Management Director Brad Nash would be attending a MERIS Training Meeting Tuesday afternoon in St. James. The training is used to inform counties of who they need to contact and what resources to use in case of a natural disaster. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
An accident happened on Saturday, August 9th at 6:47 in the evening on the Sonic Drive Inn parking lot. According to the Salem Police report, a white 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Douglas Hedrick of Salem was backing up from the parking lot. The Pontiac continued eastbound making contact with the Hockers Gas Plus concrete parking lot and gas covers. Suffering injuries were 20-year old Douglas Hedrick and a rear occupant, 15-year old Calab Thompson. Thompson sought his own medical treatment at the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The Pontiac and the parking lot sustained minor damage.
The Salem Police Department released their reports involving assault, theft, warrants, elder abuse and speeding. On August 7th at 1:24 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of William Avenue in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed a 32-year-old Salem man had been assaulted by a 46-year-old Salem man on the parking lot of 701 North Highway 19. The 46-year-old Salem man was taken into custody for 2nd Degree Assault incarcerated pending the issuance of a warrant. On August 8th at 3:27 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of East Truman in reference to a theft. An investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown had removed approximately 500 pounds of copper wire from the residence. On August 9th at 2:10 in the morning, information was received of a wanted individual in the 400 block of East Acuff. Investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem man on a fugitive warrant from the Phelps County Sheriff Department. He was incarcerated pending extradition to Phelps County. On August 9th at 3:30 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to 700 block of South Pershing in reference to Elder Abuse. The investigation revealed a 41-year-old Salem man was acting as care taker to two Salem men who are 73 and 75-years old. During the course of care, he had assaulted both men. He was taken into custody for the Elder Abuse and incarcerated pending the issuance of a warrant. Also on August 9th at 6:07 in the evening, a citizen recognized a subject to be an individual who was wanted by Probation and Parole. The investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Salem man for a warrant from Probation and Parole. He was incarcerated on the warrant. On August 11th at 12:49 in the morning, a subject was stopped for a speeding violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 24-year-old Salem woman for speeding; driving while intoxicated, having an open alcohol container and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was issued summons to appear in court and released to her father. Anyone with information pertaining to the theft, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242.

Joel Pineiro gave the Cardinals seven strong innings and Yadier Molina hit a decisive two-run homer, as St. Louis downed Florida, 4-2, in the opener of a four-game series. Rick Ankiel contributed two hits, a run scored and an RBI while Joe Mather added insurance with a solo homer in the ninth for St. Louis, which has won two of three to remain three games behind Milwaukee for the NL wild card lead. The Cardinals are also 6 1/2 games off idle Chicago's pace in the Central standings. Pineiro (5-5) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on seven hits to get the win. The right-hander reversed some recent misfortune bringing a halt to a streak of five straight outings with at least three runs allowed. Chris Perez pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the season. Tonights scheduled starters are Chris Volstad (3-2) for the Marlins and Kyle Lohse (13-4) for the Cardinals.
Cardinal’s starter Chris Carpenter will return to St. Louis on Tuesday following his abrupt exit from Sunday's series finale with Chicago. Carpenter left the game in the sixth inning with what the team is calling a strained right triceps. He will see Dr. George Paletta for an evaluation of the injury.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off and will face the Chicago White Sox starting tonight.
The St. Louis Rams have lost rookie cornerback Justin King for the season with a torn ligament in his left big toe. King suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Rams' 34-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday. The 21-year-old was the Rams' fourth-round selection in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Funeral services for Delbert “Bud” Carmier of Salem, formerly of Canada, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem Memorial District Hospital Terminal Care Unit.
Funeral services for Floy Grace Gremp of Rolla, age 82, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Rolla Animal Shelter.
Funeral services for Ricky Harlon Richardson of Salem, age 50, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Salem Christian Brotherhood Church. Visitation will be held tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the church. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ricky Richardson family. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.
Funeral services for June Marie Pryor of Salem, age 84, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Macedonia United Baptist Church in Boss. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.
Graveside services for Thelma Dean Short of Pekin, Illinois, age 79, will be held Saturday at 2:00 in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the South Pekin General Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services for Norman C. Medlock of Salem, age 89, are incomplete at this time, but are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary.
