An accident occurred at 9:15 pm Wednesday night in Dent County on private property four miles southwest of Jadwin. According to the Highway patrol report a 2004 Honda ATV driven by 15-year-old Timothy Nichols of Jadwin was traveling southbound. The accident occurred as the Nichols attempted to vault a small embankment and lost control, overturning the ATV and ejecting the driver. Nichols suffered moderate injuries and was transported by private vehicl to Salem Memorial District Hospital. Nichols was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The ATV sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by the owners.

An accident occurred at 11:45 Thursday morning in Dent County on county road 2050 about 12 miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Mazda Protégé driven by 19-year old Mary Ponzer of Salem was traveling eastbound on county road 2050 and traveled into the path of 2001 Dodge Neon driven by 24-year old Dane Sellers of Salem that was traveling westbound. Ponzer suffered minor injuries and was transported by Salem EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was the only one wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Mazda and the Dodge both sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident occurred at 2:34 pm Wednesday afternoon in Crawford County on Highway 19 three miles south of Steelville. According to the Highway Patrol report a 1994 Mazda driven by 27-year-old Dwan Estep of Salem was traveling south on Highway 19. The accident occurred as the Mazda traveled off the right side of the roadway, the driver then overcorrected causing the vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway and strike a fence. An occupant 52-year-old Christopher Estep of Salem suffered minor injuries and was transported by north Crawford ambulance to Phelps county regional medical Center. The Mazda sustained minor injuries and was removed from the scene by Gilliams Automotive.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that eight people have pleaded guilty to methamphetamine related charges involving their activities between February of 2008 and April of 2010 in Phelps County.  They included 38-year old Matt E. Shockley of St. James, and 29-yaer old Amy Koepke Shockley of St. James, 41-year old Jerry D. Cook of Rolla, 30-year old Mathew D. Garms of Steelville, 26-year old Amanda M. Housel of Rolla, 23-year old Brandon L. Proffer of St. James, 40-year old Brenda L. Bonney of St. James, and 26-year old Karen A. Cook of Rolla. Possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. Sentencings have been set for October 2010. This case was investigated by the South Central Drug Task Force, Rolla Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Assistant United States Attorney Jeannette Graviss is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Registration for Salem R-80 will begin today. William Lynch and Upper Elementary will register students from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM on today and tomorrow. Registration for Junior High and Senior High students will be today through August 12th from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. New students will register today. On August 10th, seventh grade and twelfth grade students will register. On August 11th, eighth grade and eleventh grade students will register. An accident occurred at 8:15am Sunday morning in Dent County on County Road 4285 seven miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report a 1994 Chevrolet driven by 41-year-old Donald Lindsey of Salem was traveling east on county road 4285 while a 2001 Dodge driven by 36-year-old Christopher Hinkle of Salem was traveling westbound on county road 4285. The accident occurred as both vehicles were driving in the center of the roadway at a curve and struck head on. Lindsey suffered minor injuries and was taken to Salem Hospital by ambulance. An occupant in the Chevrolet 40-year-old James Tucker of Salem suffered minor injures was also taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital. Neither Lindsey nor Tucker was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. Whitakers Towing removed the Chevrolet from the scene and owner removed the Dodge from the scene.

The Dent County Fall Festival will be held Wednesday, August 11th through Saturday, August 14th at the Dent County Commons located on Highway 72. After over four hours of rain delays the St. Louis Cardinals and Florida Marlins' finale of a three-game series at Sun Life Stadium was postponed on Sunday. No makeup date was announced. The St. Louis Cardinals currently sit two games behind the Cincinnati Reds for the top spot in the National League Central as the Reds defeated the Chicago Cubs earlier on Sunday. The Cardinals travel to Cincinnati to start a three game series starting 5:50 tonight on KSMO.

Casey Kotchman hit a two-run single and Jason Vargas pitched six solid innings, as the Seattle Mariners defeated Kansas City, 3-2, in the rubber match of a three-game series at Safeco Field. Alex Gordon hit a home run and Mike Aviles knocked in the other run for Kansas City, which has dropped four of its last six games. Kyle Davies (5-7) gave up two runs on five hits and two walks in six-plus innings. Although they lost, the Royals took five of nine from Seattle in the season series. The Royals stay on the West Coast as they start a three game series against the LA Angels tonight.

Memorial services for Jessica Brinker of St. James, age 15, will be held today at 11:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in St. James. Memorials may be made to the Jessica Brinker Memorial Scholarship Fund. All the arranagements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Pauline Shelton of Salem, age 92, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Corinth Cemetery. Memorials are suggest to the Corinth Cemetery.

Memorial services for Milton Frank Bradley of Salem, age 68, will be held Friday at 12:00 (noon) at the United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 until service time. Memorials are suggested to the UMC Landscape Fund. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Maudie L. McDowell of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Rolla & St. James, age 91, are incomplete but are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortruary in Rolla.
