The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports for the last couple of days. On August 4th at 11:47 pm, while on routine patrol a Dent County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle on Dent County Road 411. The vehicle pulled off the side of the roadway across from a private drive and the headlights were turned off. Upon contacting the driver the deputy noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year old male for driving while intoxicated. On August 5th at 11:38 pm, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a burglary at Hood’s Tire located in Anutt. The incident was reported to have occurred since the first of the month. Reported taken from the business were four 33, 12.50 X 16.5 SLE Super Swamper tires. On August 6th at 12:26 am, while on routine patrol, a Dent County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle traveling on Highway 32 with a head-lamp working improperly. Further investigation led to a search of two male subjects. As a result a red wooden box containing a green plant matter, a multi-colored glass smoking device with residue, another bag containing two baggies; one with green plant matter and one containing the cap part of a mushroom, a silver smoking device with residue and a bag with two small squares of paper with a layer of a gelled liquid on them were taken into evidence. The Salem Police Department assisted in the investigation. A 20-year old male was taken into custody for possession of hallucinogen, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. A 21-year old male was taken into custody for possession of hallucinogen and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $7,000. The Salem Police report several incidents of assaults and fights in the city. On the 26th, at about 4:13 p.m., an officer was detailed to the 700 block of East Center in reference to a fight in progress. Investigation of the report revealed that a 27-year old male of Salem, had assaulted a 19-year old male of Salem. Investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On July 30th at 2:30 p.m., and officer was sent to the 600 block of North Henderson in reference to a peace disturbance. Investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year old male from Salem for disorderly conduct and peace disturbance. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On the 31st at 9:14 p.m., officers were sent to the 500 block of North Main in reference to an assault. Investigation of the report revealed a 25-year old Salem female was a victim of an assault. The Police arrested a 21-year old male and a 36-year old female, both of Salem for assault and disorderly conduct. Two juveniles were detained for assault and disorderly conduct, a 16 year old female and a 15-year old male of Salem. The adult suspects were issued summons to appear in court and released and the juveniles were released to their parents and will be referred to the juvenile officer. On August 1st at 5:20 p.m. and officer was sent to Stephens Steakhouse in reference to a disturbance. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 20-year old male of Salem for possession of a controlled substance. The suspect was incarcerated pending the application of a warrant. One August 1st at 6:00 p.m. and officer was sent to the 300 block of North Pershing in reference to a fight in progress. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 51-year old male of Salem for disorderly conduct. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On August 2nd, at 12:37 a.m. an officer was sent to the Walnut Motel in reference to a domestic disturbance. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 40-year old male of Salem for 2nd degree domestic assault. The suspect was incarcerated pending the application of a warrant. The City of Salem Planning and Zoning Commission have called a meeting on August 20th at 6:45 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall. The Commission will consider a request by Eric and Jackie Schafer for a reviewed use for the operation of a day care center at 203 S. Hickory. The meeting is open to the public.

Kip Wells pitched seven strong innings as the St. Louis Cardinals knocked off the San Diego Padres, 2-1, in the third of a four-game set at Busch Stadium. Wells (5-13) gave up just one unearned run on six hits and struck out four for the Cardinals, who have won two of their last three games. Juan Encarnacion and Albert Pujols each drove in a run. Greg Maddux (7-9) pitched a good game as he gave up just two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in six innings of work, but still got the loss for the Padres, who had won five of six coming into the game. Ryan Franklin retired three straight batters in the eighth after Randy Flores gave up a leadoff single while Jason Isringhausen worked around a pair of walks in the ninth to pick up his 22 save of the season. The Cards are back to within six games of Central Division leading Milwaukee Brewers. The Cards and Padres wrap up their series tonight at 7:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Michael Cuddyer and Torii Hunter both homered as the Minnesota Twins powered past the Kansas City Royals, 11-4, in the middle contest of their three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Cuddyer and Hunter finished with three hits and three RBI each, while Mike Redmond had four hits and an RBI and Joe Mauer drove in two runs for the Twins, who snapped a brief two-game losing skid. John Buck had three hits and two RBI for the Royals, who have lost four of five. Kansas City starter Odalis Perez (6-11) was tagged for six runs -- three earned -- on seven hits, while walking one without a strikeout in just three innings. The Royals announced later that he left the game because of leg soreness. The Twins and Royals will wrap up their series tonight at Kansas City.

Memorial services for John Al Catalanotto of Salem, age 54, will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be after 10:00 A.M. until service time.

A celebration of life service for Phil and Bess Askey will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Delores I. Heavin of Rolla, age 75, will he held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 on Friday. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Loretta Keithly of Salem, age 85, will be held Sunday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Salem.
