A Primary Election was held Tuesday statewide to determine who will be the final opponents in the General Election to be held in November. In Dent County, 3,564 ballots were cast which is 41.26% of the registered voters. Voters had to select a party to vote on in the primary or elect to vote non-partisan. Here are the unofficial results for the contested races in Dent County.

The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 4160, 5070 and 5610; while materials will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Roads 2440 and 2470. He went to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5220 and 6180. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2030, 2130, 4283, 4285 and 4287; while materials will be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 3180. Larson said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2020 and 2300. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles said that he would be attending a County Commission Association of Missouri meeting on Thursday in Fulton to finalize plans for the annual commissioner training in February. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the treasurer and her office balanced for all accounts for the month of July, and that the commissioners need to review the add-ons and tax abatement report from the collector’s and assessor’s office. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Wednesday, July 18th at 6:03 in the evening, an officer took a 23-year old Salem female into custody in lieu of a court order to incarcerate her for a drug court violation. She was released to the custody of the Dent County Sheriffs Department. On Friday, July 20th at 7:33 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Holman in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a wallet and contents valued at $16 from a vehicle. Later that afternoon at 2:17, an officer was dispatched to the Casey’s General Store located on Highway 32 in reference to an unattended 3-year old child. That investigation led to the arrest of a 24-year old Salem male for endangering the welfare of a child. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. A little later that afternoon at 2:27, an officer made contact with a 22-year old Salem male who had an active City of Salem warrant in the 800 block of East Inman. He was taken into custody and later released after posting bond with a date to appear in court. On Saturday, July 21st at 1:45 in the early morning, an officer made contact with a 28-year old Salem female in the 500 block of East Roosevelt who had an active warrant from the Rolla Police Department. She was taken into custody and incarcerated pending extradition. Later that evening at 10:10, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated and a 40-year old Salem male for an open beer container. They were both issued a summons to appear in court and released. The Salem Memorial District Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor and Dr. John Demorlis are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Vicky Gulley to the SMDH Medical Staff. Dr. Gulley and Dr. Demorlis will work together to improve patient access to the residents of the hospital district, as well as outside the district. Although Dr. Gulley and Dr. Demorlis will be working together and the offices will connect, each office will be staffed separately. Dr. Gulley will begin her practice on Monday, October 1st in Physicians Office Building #1. She has spent the last four years as a primary care physician in Waynesville and is Board Certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulation. Dr. Gulley will be accepting patients from pediatric to geriatric age and information as well as office hours will be available soon.

Buster Posey's three-run homer in the first inning was held up by Barry Zito and the Giants bullpen in a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals, who were looking for a fifth straight win, went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight. Allen Craig’s two solo homers accounted for the Cardinals only runs. Lance Lynn (13-5) yielded four runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings to take the loss. The Cardinals and Giants play again tonight at 6:40 on KSMO.
The Kansas City Royals used a four run seventh-inning rally to down the Chicago White Sox, 5-2, in the middle installment of a three- game set at U.S. Cellular Field. Billy Butler was 2-for-4 with a long two-run shot for the Royals, who have won two of three. Bruce Chen (8-9) scattering just two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk in 6 2/3 frames for the win. The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox play again tonight.
Aly Raisman closed out an outstanding performance by the U.S. women's gymnastics team at the London Games by grabbing gold in the final of the floor exercise on Tuesday. This gives the U.S. 30 gold medals and 70 total medals, three behind China for the lead.
The Salem Tiger Football and the 12th Tiger Club would like to invite the public to a scrimmage on Friday, August 10th at the Salem High School Football Stadium beginning at 6:45 pm. At 6:00 there will a Parent Meeting with Coach Schuchardt and then after the Parent Meeting there will be a 12th Tiger Booster Club Meeting. Admission to the game will be a water and Gatorades for the players. After each away game, the 12th Tiger Booster Club provides a sandwich, chips and water/Gatorade. Funeral services for Floyd ‘Duke’ Sutterfield of Ellington, age 89, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Polk Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the scholarship fund for the Bunker High School.
Funeral services for Donald “Don” C. Hayes of Bunker, age 76, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Ohlman Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be Thursday at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Corridon-Reynolds Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ohlman Missionary Baptist Church or the Corridon-Reynolds Cemetery.
Funeral services for Dorothy May Kitchen of Rolla, age 70, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Shepherd’s Nook or the St. James Caring Center.
Funeral services for Gladys (Volner) Overfelt of Salem, age 91, are incomplete. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
