An accident occurred at 3:00 early Saturday morning in Crawford County on Thurman Lake Road about five miles west of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1990 Chevrolet pickup driven by 29 year-old Dana Lenderman of Steelville struck a deer in the roadway, ran off the right side of the road, and struck a tree. Lenderman suffered serious injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The pickup was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Miles and Sons Towing of Steelville.

An accident occurred at 11:22 Saturday night in Crawford County on Cedar Lane about two miles south of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Dodge driven by 19 year-old Dakota Whaley of Steelville ran off the right side of the road, struck several tree, and overturned. Whaley and an occupant, 19 year-old Preston Ariola of Steelville, suffered serious injuries and were transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. They were not wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. The Dodge was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Miles Towing.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving stolen bicycles, a stolen 4-wheeler, intoxicated driving, and shoplifting. On Friday, July 29th at 2:00 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Hogan and Adam Lane in reference to stolen bicycles. The investigation revealed that between July 27th at 12:00 in the afternoon and July 29th at 1:30 in the afternoon, person or persons unknown had taken a 20" NEXT bicycle, green in color with a black and grey seat valued at $20. Also taken was a 20" NEXT bicycle, green in color with a black seat with front pegs valued at $20. On Sunday, July 31st at 7:30 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the area of 1000 N. Hickory in reference to a stolen 4-wheeler. That investigation revealed that between July 22nd at 12:00 in the morning and July 25th at 9:00 in the morning, a person or persons unknown had taken from the residence a 2008 Polaris Predator 4-wheeler, black in color, valued at $700. On Monday, August 1st at 3:45 in the afternoon, the Salem Police received a call in reference to a vehicle traveling in a careless manner in the area of the Dollar General Store. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem man for driving while intoxicated and a fugitive warrant from Lake Ozark, Mo. The subject was issued a summons to appear in court and was incarcerated. On Tuesday, August 2nd at 4:40 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to shoplifting. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 30-year old Salem woman for shoplifting $74 worth of merchandise. The merchandise was returned to Wal-Mart and the woman was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Thursday, August 4th at 2:15 in the morning, an officer was sent to the area of 400 E. Acuff in reference to a stolen bicycle. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown, between 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning on August 4th, took a 20" black and white in color bicycle valued at $65 from the residence. The brand name is unknown. Anyone with any information about the stolen 4-wheeler or bicycles is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released their arrest reports for Dent County. On Sunday, July 31st at 10:40 in the morning, 31-year old Holly Pumarejo of Rolla was arrested on a Rolla municipal warrant for failure to appear on a speeding charge, and a local charge of not having valid insurance. She was taken to the Dent County Jail. On Tuesday, August 2nd at 7:45 in the evening, 25-year old Brandon Rader of Salem was arrested on a felony Dent County warrant for burglary and was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and the unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. He was then taken to the Dent County Jail. Three days later on Friday, August 5th at 6:40 in the evening, Rader was arrested again on a felony Dent County warrant for stealing. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released. On Wednesday, August 3rd at 1:40 in the afternoon, 19-year-old Tadd Mansfield of Salem was arrested a felony Dent County warrant for second-degree burglary. He was taken to the Dent County Jail.

The Salem Tiger Football Teams and the 12th Tiger Club would like to invite the public to a scrimmage this Friday at 6:00 at the Salem High School Football Field. Admission to the game will be bottles of Gatorade or water. These will be given to the players after the away games.

Albert Pujols homered and scored three runs, Matt Holliday drove in three and the St. Louis Cardinals swept the Florida Marlins with an 8-4 win Sunday. Playing most of the game in the rain, the Cardinals completed their first ever four-game sweep of the Marlins in Florida and their first four-game sweep on the road since 2004 at Pittsburgh. Mitchell Boggs (2-3) earned the win in relief of Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia, who gave up two runs and six hits in five innings. In the series, Pujols had three home runs and Matt Holiday had two home runs. The Cardinals are headed home for six games against Milwaukee and Colorado starting Tuesday.

Johnny Giavotella hit his first major league homer and scored twice, and the Kansas City Royals survived a weather delay and a Tigers rally for a 4-3 win Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep. Giavotella also doubled in his third game since being called up, while Mitch Maier added an RBI triple for the Royals. Giavotella, who was called up Friday and went 2-for-3 in his major league debut that night, homered into the Royals bullpen in left field in the fifth to make it 4-0. Kansas City starter Bruce Chen (6-5) was pulled after a 46-minute rain delay in the sixth inning but earned his first win in five starts. He was charged with three runs on five hits in five-plus innings, striking out five and walking none. The Royals will be at Tampa Bay tonight.

Funeral service for Harold “Mason” Lloyd Nash of Licking, age 19, will be held today at 1:00 at the Boss Assembly of God. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Tia Nash Trust Fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary.

Graveside services for Donna Faye Levin of Salem, age 54, will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 at the Hew Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Memorial service for Elisabeth Jane “BJ” Kinyon of Rolla, age 80, will be held Saturday, August 20th at 1:00 at the Christ Episcopal Church of Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Christ Episcopal Church of Rolla building fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
