An accident happened Thursday morning at a residence located off Highway 68 that took the life of a Salem man. Dent County Coroner Eddie Wilson pronounced 50-year old Ricky Harlon Richardson of Salem dead at 8:33 Friday morning. Richardson was cutting logs and had notched a tree to fall, and the tree was leaning. Richardson tried to push the tree and it fell pinning him underneath the tree face down. No autopsy was performed.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning and District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson was not in attendance. In the road report, District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 2100, 2330 and 4020. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a Missouri Division of Tourism Website Workshop that was held Tuesday at the Salem TCRC.  Skiles said there were many people from Salem and surrounding towns in attendance to learn how to promote their business on the web in the best way. At the previous meeting, Dan Hutchings, the Senior Investigator with APHIS, came in to discuss with the Commission a federal quarantine on forestry products from Wayne County. The quarantine is due to a pest called the Emerald Ash Borer and it was caused by an infestation that was found in firewood from Greenville, MO. Hutchings said the quarantine could possibly extend west of Wayne County and he wanted to give the county fair warning of the problem. The next meeting of Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
