An accident happened at 6:10 pm Tuesday evening in Texas County on Route B about 12 miles east of Raymondville. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Chevrolet truck driven by 31-year old Ryan Stagner of Salem was traveling westbound on Route B. The Chevrolet truck ran off the right side of the road, lost control, ran off the left side of the road and overturned ejecting a passenger, 27-year old Jeremiah Judd of Salem. Judd suffered serious injuries and was transported by Air Evac to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Springfield. Stagner was the only one wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet was totaled and removed from the scene by A-1 Towing of Houston. The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded for an accident reconstruction and the investigation is continuing.

Governor Jay Nixon has announced that 13 Missouri communities will be recommended to the National Park Service to receive more than $770,000 in federal grants to assist with park and recreation needs. The grants are part of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is a federal program that can be used to acquire, develop and renovate outdoor recreation projects. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources received 38 applications requesting more than $4.9 million in grant funding. The State Inter-Agency Council for Outdoor Recreation made the award recommendations. Recommendations went to projects with the highest score based on meeting the recreational needs of the communities, planning goals and unique or specific attributes. All projects require a 55 percent match. The funds are made available through the U.S. Department of The Interior's National Park Service and the National Park Service must approve the recommendations before the grants are awarded. Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, recorded no traffic fatalities during the month of June 2009. This is two less than for June 2008.  There were a total of 231 accidents reported with 114 injuries and two fatalities in June 2008, compared to 217 accidents with 76 injuries and no fatalities in June 2009. The total fatalities for 2009 are nine compared to 19 for the same time period as last year. In Crawford County, there were 38 accidents reported with 12 injuries, Dent County reported 21 accidents occurred with 15 injuries while Laclede County reported 47 accidents with 18 injuries. Also in June, Maries County with reported that eight accidents occurred with one injury, Phelps County reported 72 accidents occurred with 23 injuries and Pulaski County reported that 31 accidents occurred with seven injuries.

Businesses who suffered property damage or loss from the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from May 8^th through the 16th can register for federal disaster assistance. Registration is available by calling 1-800 621-3362 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days a week, or at www.disasterassistance.gov. In order to complete an application, the following information is necessary: a phone number, address of the damaged property, a brief description of damages, a Social Security number, any insurance information and a current mailing address. The counties in which residents are eligible to register for disaster assistance are: Dent, Shannon, Texas, and surrounding counties. Businesses of any size and private, non-profit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets The U.S. Small Business Administration also sends loss verifiers to inspect damaged property of those who have submitted completed loan applications. And local building and safety inspectors may come to see if damaged structures are safe. All of these inspectors should have photo identification.

Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property. FEMA disaster assistance covers basic needs only and will not normally compensate victims for their entire loss. For those with insurance, the government may help pay for basic needs not covered by insurance. Residents who applied for disaster assistance and are not insured can expect to hear from an inspector who will schedule a visit to look at damaged property. FEMA schedules inspections within 7 to 10 days to verify losses.

Funeral services for Eula I. Swiney of Bunker, age 79, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Ohlman Missionary Baptist Church in Bunker. Interment will be in the Delmar Cemetery in Shannon County. Memorials may be made to the Ohlman Missionary Baptist Church or the Delmar Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

A Funeral Mass for Mary Louise O’Day of Harrah, Oklahoma, age 91, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield. Visitation will be today from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Herman Lomeyer Funeral Home in Springfield with a Rosary Service at 3:00. Interment will be in the Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Paul Allen Light of Rolla, age 53, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Rhea Cemetery in rural Rolla with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Paul Light family.

Funeral services for Rose Ann (Krill) Thompson of Bunker, age 87, will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Chatman Cemetery in Bunker. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Chatman Cemetery c/o Dina Houston of Bunker.
