The City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00. During the hearing of persons, Bob Brendell would like to discuss why the City’s insurance declined paying for damages on his wife’s vehicle. He states the damages were caused from a transformer blowing, from a short, behind the Bank of Salem. During bids, the City of Salem requested bids for two 4-wheel drive pickups, one for the electric and one for the water department and the City requested bids for lettering the new police cars. At the last Board meeting, City Attorney Mark Weaver presented a draft ordinance concerning pit bulls and there will be a discussion for input. In reports of city officials, boards and committees, Park & Recreation Director Greg Nash will report on the meeting held August 1st. Alderman Jim McDaniels, Bill Riley, Mike Whitley and Jim Jackson would like to discuss items involving the city and those will be followed by Mayor Gary Brown’s comments. The Mayor will also report to the Board from the Salem Business Revitalization Committee. During the introduction of Bills, Bill # 3102, an ordinance annexing certain adjacent territory into the City of Salem, and Bill # 3103, an ordinance amending ordinance #3101, adopting the annual budget for the City of Salem beginning July 1, 2007, and adding a new revenue line item “Income From Previous Year” and adding an expenditure line item “Well #7 Restoration/New Well House” to the Water Department budget, and also Bill # 3104, an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement for the lease and purchase of a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. New business will include; the City Clerk is requesting the Board for the Public Tax Hearing to be held on August 16th at 7:00 at the beginning of the regular meeting. After the approval of bills, the Board will then go into Closed Session to discuss personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Dent County 4-H Achievement Day was held last month and several 4-H’s were selected to go on and show their projects at the Missouri State Fair. Congratulations to Alisha Sims for her Faberge Egg; Rebecca Campbell for her scrapbook; Sydni Kaden for a sheep hay feeder; Dalton Smith for public speaking and a beef project book; Lindsey Purcell for her quilt; and Shaila Villeme for a cooking demonstration. Dmitri Young hit a two-run double in the eighth, as the Washington Nationals put up three in the inning to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-3, in the finale of a three-game series at RFK Stadium. Young ended with three RBI and Nook Logan scored and drove in a run for the Nationals, who went a perfect 6-0 on their homestand by sweeping both the Cardinals and the Reds. Matt Chico yielded three runs on six hits over five innings of work. The bullpen shut down the St. Louis offense from there, with Ray King (1-0) recording the win and Chad Cordero tossing a perfect ninth for his 23rd save of the year. Adam Wainwright pitched seven decent innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, and also hit his second career home run for St. Louis, which has dropped five in a row. The Cards play San Diego tonight at 6:00 p.m.

Hideki Matsui and Melky Cabrera each homered and drove in two runs, leading the New York Yankees to an 8-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals and a sweep of the three-game series at Yankee Stadium. Alex Rodriguez, a day after finally reaching the 500-homer club, went 0-for-4 with a sacrifice fly as the designated hitter. Bobby Abreu chipped in three hits with a pair of runs batted in for New York, which hadn't swept a series since taking three straight against Arizona from June 12-14. Mike Mussina (7-7) pitched into the seventh to win his third straight start. He gave up two runs on nine hits with no walks and three strikeouts over six- plus innings. Mariano Rivera got the last four outs for his 17th save. Gil Meche (7-9) lost his third straight start. The Kansas City righty was roughed up for six runs on six hits and five walks with two strikeouts in just four-plus innings. Joey Gathright went 4-for-4 with an RBI single, while Ross Gload added two hits with a two-run homer in defeat. The Royals have lost five of their last six.  The Royals are off today.

Funeral services for Dorothy E. Parish of Salem, age 78, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for John Carr of Steelville, age 91, will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 at the Presbyterian Church of Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Pleasant Point Cemetery in Steelville. All arrangements under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Audrey Housewright of Steelville, age 82 will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the Britton -Bennett Funeral Home at Steelville.  Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Barnicle Chapel Cemetery in Steelville.

Memorial services for John Al Catalanotto of Salem, age 54, will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be after 10:00 A.M. until service time. 

Private burial services for Barbara Jane Price of Steelville, age 66, will be at the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville. Arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
