The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 6240, 6660 and 6670. He said that ditch work was going to be done, rock was going to be added and grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 4180, and brush was going to be cut on Dent County Roads 4110 and 4120. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 3283, and brush cutting was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2200 and 3030. Larson went on to say that Dent County Road 3030 is being prepared for work on a low water crossing, and that a culvert was going to be installed and material was going to be added to Dent County Road 4290. The Commissioners then approved the bid from the Bank of Salem for 3.15% for the lease/purchase of a backhoe from Fabick with the payment details to be worked out. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles discussed with the commission when they could visit the Peck Ranch after being invited by the Department of Conservation. The commissioners agreed that the best time would be sometime in the last two weeks of September. Skiles will relay that information on to Aaron Jeffries from the Department of Conservation. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of July. During the month, they wrote 16 traffic tickets, 17 warning tickets, four equipment repair orders, and they served 19 summons to appear in court. The Salem Police Department investigated 16 accidents, three assaults, one burglary, one child abuse, and one child molestation, as well as serving three fugitive warrants and three city warrants. They also investigated two disorderly conducts, five instances of domestic violence, one driving while intoxicated, one forgery, one fraudulent use of a credit card, two charges of leaving the scene of an accident, and one lost or stolen license plate charge. The police department also investigated one case of an open container, three property damages, one stalking, 19 cases of stealing, two trespassing charges, and six 96-hour commitments. They received 1,748 calls for service during the month and handled 116 walk-ins to the station and redirected 71 calls to the animal control officer. They also spent 10 hours in court testifying and three hours as court bailiff. The calls in July included 49 calls for escorts, four 9-1-1 calls, three intoxicated driver investigation calls, six calls for peace disturbances, seven ambulance assist calls, eight calls for alarms sounding, 3 calls for fights in progress, four suspicious persons or vehicles, one intoxicated pedestrian, 10 domestic dispute calls, two fire call and three wreckers was needed. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 12,073 miles during the month of July. They arrested 17 males and 8 females for a total of 25 arrests made during July.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Sunday, July 24^th at 5:45 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Ferguson Police Department where a 20-year old St. Louis man was arrested and transported back to Salem on two City of Salem warrants. He was incarcerated on the warrants. On Monday, July 25^th at 2:30 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Highway 19 and 32 area in reference to an intoxicated subject. That investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year old St. Louis man for an open liquor container. He was issued a summons to appear and was incarcerated. Later that afternoon at 1:30, an officer was contacted at the station by a 75- year old Salem woman in reference to fraud. The investigation of the report revealed that the victim had been contacted by a subject from Michigan stating she had won $100,000. She would be required to send $600 for handling fees. The victim was contacted again requiring another $500 handling fees and she requested the original $600 back. The report is under investigation. Anyone who is contacted in reference to winning money and you are required to pay, please contact your local authorities or financial institution for confirmation prior to sending the money. The Salem Park Board will conduct their meeting at the Salem Freedom Center located at 1200 West Rolla Road on Thursday, August 4^th beginning at 6:30 pm. Parks & Recreation Director Greg Nash will give his report before there will be a discussion about the city pool, and the 2011 youth baseball season. The board will be planning for the upcoming youth soccer season including sign-ups, season dates and any other discussion. There will be an update on the soccer fields, the possibility of asking for a park & recreation sales tax and any other business that may come before the Board. The meeting of the Salem Park Board is open to the public.

Lance Berkman drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning with a bloop single, lifting the Cardinals to a critical 8-7 victory over the Brewers. Octavio Dotel recorded the final two outs in the bottom half of the inning to record his first save with the Cardinals. Dotel replaced Kyle McClellan (8-6), who pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to record the win in an arduous game for both teams.  Matt Holiday hit a two-run homer and Jaime Garcia hit his first major league homer, a three-run shot, in the game. Daniel Descalso had three hits for the Cards who will wrap up their series in Milwaukee this afternoon at 12:35 on KSMO.

Mark Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and five RBI, as the Baltimore Orioles handled the Kansas City Royals, 8-2, in the opener of a three-game series. Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler had an RBI apiece for the Royals, who had won three of four. The Royals and Orioles play again tonight.

Graveside services for Terry William Loop of Jadwin, age 67, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Burnett Cemetery in Bunker. Memorials may be made to the Texas County Hospice. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel.

Funeral mass for Joe Reinbott of Salem will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Church in Salem. The Knights of Columbus ceremony and Rosary will begin at 10:30 this morning. Interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield at 2:00 on Friday. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Memorial service for Elisabeth Jane “BJ” Kinyon of Rolla, age 80, will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Christ Episcopal Church of Rolla building fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
