Sho-Me Power is working on repairs to the switch gear that turns the power on and off to the city in emergency situations, and they will need to put it back in service which means they will again kill power to the City of Salem this morning at 10:00 am. Once again, it should only take one hour for the repairs to be completed, the same as the first outage. If you are a person that is dependent on electricity for medical or for daily living needs, please make alternative arrangements to safeguard your health. The Old City Hall and the Oak Grove Church will again be open and operating on generator during this time of day. The City of Salem and Sho-Me Power apologizes for any inconvenience.

The Salem Police Department released their reports on recent incidents in Salem. On Friday, July 19th at 7:45 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued at $74.82. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released.  On Saturday, July 20th at 12:28 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Phil-Mart in reference to a theft of fuel. That investigation revealed that a male driving a silver 1999 Oldsmobile van pumped $9.98 in fuel and left without paying. That night at 9:06, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of Thomas in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a laptop computer, valued at $1,500, from a residence. A little later that night at 9:13, an officer made contact with a 37-year old West Plains male near Fourth and Henderson who had an active felony arrest warrant from Howell County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. Later on that night at 11:28, an officer was detailed to the 600 block of West Fourth in reference to a burglary in progress. That investigation led to the arrest of a 48-year old Salem male who was attempting to break into a residence. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Sunday, July 21st at 4:50 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 26-year old Salem male in the 600 block of West Fourth who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Rolla. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending extradition. At 12:52 that afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Casey’s General Store on Macarthur in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 48-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued at $10. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That evening at 7:35, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of East Center in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took $530 cash from a residence. On Monday, July 22nd at 10:00 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 38-year old Nixa male near Grand and Third who had an active arrest warrant from Probation and Parole. He was taken into custody and incarcerated pending extradition. That evening at 9:32, an officer transported a 50-year old Springfield male to the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Tuesday, July 23rd at 3:58 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that someone entered a residence in the 700 block of North Hickory and took items valued at $2,500. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 33-year old Salem male in connection with the burglary. He was released pending the application for a warrant. During the month of June 2013, troopers assigned to Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated two fatal traffic crashes. This is two more than June 2012. There were a total of 182 accidents with 85 injuries and two fatalities for June 2013 compared to168 accidents with 74 injuries in June 2012.The total number of fatalities investigated by Troop I Officers in 2013 is ten, compared to eighteen for the same time period last year. In Crawford County, there were 25 accidents reported with 17 injuries, while in Dent County, there were 12 accidents recorded with four injuries and one fatality. Laclede County had 34 accidents reported with 16 injuries, and in Maries County there were five accidents recorded with four injuries and one fatality. In Phelps County, a total of 62 accidents were reported with 31 injuries, and in Pulaski County, 44 accidents were recorded with 13 injuries.

The 2013 4-H/FFA EXPO will be held today through August 3rd at the Oakwood Mule Farms on Highway HH. Today, the livestock registration will be held from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Livestock weigh-ins will be at 1:00, and family games and an evening of entertainment will be from 7:00 to 10:00. Family games will include a turtle race, calf scramble, frog-jumping contest, youth relay races, a pet fashion show, and a greased pig contest. There will also be a nickel scramble, tug of war, a peewee stick horse race, super farmer for youth and adults and a chicken race. On Friday, August 2nd the hog show will start at 8:00 am, the sheep and goat show will begin at 1:30, the small animal show will start at 3:00 while the beef and dairy show will be 4:00. That evening family games and an evening of entertainment will once again be held from 7:00 to 10:00. Then on Saturday, August 3rd the final day of the EXPO, the FFA pedal tractor pull will start off the day at 9:00, followed by the buyer’s luncheon at 12:00 (noon). The 4-H-FFA market sale and livestock auction will begin at 1:30 and if you are not able to attend, you can hear the entire auction on KSMO Radio or online at www.ksmoradio.com. The livestock auction will also be televised and played back starting on Sunday, August 4th. Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy all the festivities.

Russell Martin hit a tie-breaking single in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates lengthened their lead atop the division with a 5-4 come-from-behind decision over the slumping St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park. St. Louis was dealt its seventh consecutive defeat after failing to hold on to a 4-2 lead after 3 1/2 innings. It's the Cardinals' longest losing streak since a seven-game slide during June of their eventual 2011 World Series championship season. The Cardinals and Pirates play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 5:30.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed All-Star catcher Yadier Molina and outfielder Shane Robinson on the 15-day disabled list. Molina has a right knee sprain while Robinson has a right shoulder strain. To fill their roster spots, St. Louis recalled outfielders Brock Peterson and Adron Chambers.

A fielding error by Pedro Florimon allowed Alex Gordon to score the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and the Kansas City Royals won a season-high eighth straight game with a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins in the middle test of a three-game set. Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie (11-7) gave up two runs on six hits and a pair of walks over six innings to pick up his third consecutive win. Greg Holland pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his 28th save. The Royals and Twins play again this afternoon.

The Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Justin Maxwell from the Houston Astros Wednesday for pitcher Kyle Smith. Maxwell is hitting .241 with two homers and eight RBI in 40 games this season.

Funeral services for Mildred Nadine Walker of Salem, age 72, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Light House Assembly Church in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the church. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Light House Assembly Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Memorial services for William “Bill” Penning of Cuba, age 60, will be held Saturday at 3:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until service time Saturday.

Graveside services and interment for Heath Barkley Hudson of Salem, age 46, will be held at 11:00 Monday morning at the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Eual Richard Hutson of Salem, age 74, will be Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 until the 1:00 service time at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
