The 86th Annual Dent County Fall Festival will be held at the Commons in Salem from Thursday July 31st to Saturday, August 2nd. Today from 3:00 to 7:00 pm will be the exhibit entry. On Thursday, gates and exhibit building opens at 5:00 in the evening while the carnival opens at 6:00 and the beauty pageant begins at 6:00 as well. On Friday, gates and exhibit building opens at 4:00 in the afternoon kids games are from 5:00 to 7:00, carnival opens at 6:00, the Big Roy Stevenson Band starts playing at 6:30, and the motorcycle and ATV races begin at 6:30. On Saturday, gates open at 8:30 in the morning, the fun dog show starts at 9:00, children’s pageant begins at 10:00, the exhibit building opens at noon, kids games will be from noon until 2:00, quarters in the haystack will be at 2:00, the demolition derby gate opens at 6:00 in the evening, the evening carnival begins at 6:00, pulled pork BBQ starts at 6:00, and the exhibit building closes at 9:00 that night. General admission for the motorcycle and ATV races will be $5 for adults and $2 for children under 10. General admission for the demolition derby will be $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10.

An accident occurred on Friday, July 18th at 11:17 in the evening on Highway 19 at Casey’s in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, Victoria Weber of Salem was driving a 1998 GMC 3500 east out of Casey’s parking lot and failed to yield for a motorized scooter, driven south on the highway by Cricket Marchbanks of Salem, and contact was made. Marchbanks suffered a severe injury to her right knee and she was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The passenger on the scooter suffered no apparent injuries but was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital, as injury was probable. The scooter sustained extensive damage while the GMC sustained moderate damage.

An accident occurred at 5:23 Monday evening in Crawford County on Grotemac Lake Road at Fletcher Road just north of Leasburg. According to the highway patrol report, 26-year old Amanda Christopher of Cuba was driving a 2000 Ford Escort east when she failed to stop at a stop sign, continued through the intersection and struck an embankment. Christopher suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. She was then charged with driving while intoxicated (alcohol and drugs), no seatbelt, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, driving while suspended, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana up to 35 grams. The Ford sustained minor damage and was removed from the scene by Brad’s Towing of Bourbon.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released more reports. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released a report. On Saturday, July 12th, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrested ason Mills. Mr. Mills was wanted for stealing a vehicle in Madison County after which he drove to Highway F in Dent County, where he stole a black F-350 Flatbed truck. Mills later went to a farm on County Road 5440, where he had stolen an ATV. Mills then went down County Road 5520, where he stole a 1998 maroon Ford F-150 from a hunter and fled. Mr. Mills is currently being housed by the Missouri Department of Corrections. On Sunday, July 27th, deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of county road 3255 to investigate a report of a stolen motorcycle. The owner of the 2013 Honda CRF250L motorcycle stated that his motorcycle was stolen during that early morning. A report was taken and the vehicle was entered into the National Crime Information Center as a stolen vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the motorcycle is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff's Office at 729-3241.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Sunday, July 13th at 11:08 in the morning, five firefighters responded to the fire station to create a landing zone. On Tuesday, July 15th at 5:22 in the early evening, six firefighters responded to the 900 block of South Hickory to extinguish an outside rubbish, trash or waste fire. All units were back in service at 5:38 pm. On Wednesday, July 16th a total of five firefighters responded at 2:34 in the afternoon to the 800 block of South Askins to provide manpower for a medical assist and assist EMS crews. At 3:59 that same afternoon, a total of three firefighters responded to the 900 block of South Hickory to extinguish an outside rubbish, trash or waste fire. On Thursday, July 17th at 6:24 in the morning, a total of four firefighters responded to the fire station to create a landing zone. That evening at 7:00 pm, a total of 13 firefighters responded to the station for their bi-weekly training event that consisted of washing hose and drivers training. Then on Friday, July 18th at 11:28 pm, a total of six firefighters responded to intersection of South Main and Condray to provide first aid and check for injuries. Firefighters reformed extrication and provided mutual aid for the Salem Memorial District Hospital. All units were back in action at 12:15 am the early the next morning.

 The Salem Area Arts Council is sponsoring a Beginning Water Color Painting Class at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. The class will be taught by Gary Nash.  Registration may be made today through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the ONCRC located at 202 South Main Street, Salem. Yangervis Solarte smacked a solo homer and scored two runs as the San Diego Padres topped the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-1, in the opener of a three-game set. Lance Lynn (11-8) surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts over six frames for St. Louis, which has dropped five of its last seven games. Kolton Wong had the only RBI for the Cards who will play the Padres again tonight starting at 8:35 on KSMO Radio.

Kyle Gibson tossed seven scoreless innings to lead the Minnesota Twins past the Kansas City Royals, 2-1, in the opener of a three-game set Gibson is 3-0 lifetime against the Royals. ric Hosmer drove in the Royals' lone run with an RBI single in the ninth inning as the team dropped their second consecutive game after winning five in a row. Starter James Shields (9-6) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs -- one earned -- on six hits and four walks in six innings. The Royals and Twins play again tonight.

Funeral services for Eugene (Gene) Allen Williams of Salem, age 76, will be held at 11:00 this morning at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Patterson Cemetery in Salem.

Funeral services for John “David” Flett of Rolla, age 83, will be held at 2:00 today at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorials Gardens in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Grace Organization or Love Organization.
