The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a burglary and unlawful assembly. On July 25th at 12:44 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a burglary, which had occurred at a residence off of Highway 68. The incident occurred between 9:15 and 11:30 that morning. A locked door was entered with no apparent damage. Taken from the residence were necktie clasps, 5 pairs of cuff links, gold watch, a men’s gold wedding ring, woman's ring with white and pink stones, and a woman's ring with garnet stones. On July 26th at 2:10 in the morning, a Dent County Sheriff's Deputy while on routine patrol of the Shawnee Mac Lake area contacted approximately 20 people who stated they were there to see a fight. While gathering identification a 20-year old male was noted to have an odor of alcohol emitting from his person.  Further investigation led to the 20-year old male being cited for minor in possession of intoxicating liquor while operating a motor vehicle. All other persons were released and requested to leave. Later in the early morning hours a report was received from a resident located off of Dent County Road 5070 that several people had been to the residence with shovels and bats and had struck a vehicle and the front porch. They were confronted and left the area. At 4:16 that morning, deputies arrived at the residence and observed damage to the screen door and window of the residence. While at the residence deputies saw two vehicles pass that were at the Shawnee Mac Lake area earlier that morning. The two vehicles were stopped with a total of 12 people inside the vehicles. The subjects stated they had come to watch a fight. All subjects were transported to the Dent County Sheriff's office and were cited for unlawful assembly with one subject also being cited for trespassing.  Anyone with any information regarding the burglary or the unlawful assembly, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports for July 20th through 27th. On July 20th at 7:51 in the evening, the Salem Police Department Paged out the fire department to assist a Salem Ambulance on Dent County Road 2300. The fire department returned to the station at 10:32, with eight firefighters responding. On July 23rd at 5:40 in the evening, the Dent County Sheriffs Department paged the fire department out to a vehicle accident. The Fire Department cleaned up an oil spill that was caused in the collision. The Department returned to the station at 6:13 and eight firefighters were present. On July 26th at 7:09 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriffs Department paged the fire department out to assist a Salem Ambulance off of Route DD. The Fire Department returned to the station at 08:06, and five firefighters were present. Also on July 26th, the Salem Police Department paged the fire department out for a natural gas leak on North Water. Upon arrival, the fire department assisted in blocking roads and evacuating residences until gas personnel arrived. The department returned to the station at 10:06 that evening, with 12 firefighters responding to the call. On July 27th at 2:53 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriffs Department paged the fire department out to a charcoal plant on fire on JJ Highway. Upon arrival firefighters found fire on the conveyor belts, in the bagging room and in the bulk storage container. The Department returned to the station at 4:41 that afternoon. The Dent County Fire Protection District requested assistance from the Lenox Fire and Jadwin Fire Departments and Salem Ambulance. A total of 20 firefighters were present. Fire Chief Brad Nash reported that the Dent County Fire Protection District ran a record number of calls last year of 306, and that so far this year they have ran a total of 247 calls.

Troop I, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, recorded two traffic fatalities during the month of June 2008.  This is two less than June 2007. The total fatalities for 2008 are 19 compared to 32 for the same time period as last year. The total number of accidents for 2007 was 226 compared to 229 for this year. The total number of injuries for 2007 was 75 compared to 114 for 2008. During the month of June in Crawford County, there were 35 accidents reported with 16 injuries, Dent County reported 19 accidents with 13 injuries, there were 59 accidents in Phelps County with 24 injuries and one fatality, and Pulaski County reported 54 accidents with 6 injuries and one fatality during the month of June 2008

Albert Pujols homered, doubled and walked, while Yadier Molina went 3-for-5 and knocked in a pair as St. Louis dropped the reeling Braves, 8-3. Brendan Ryan went 2-for-5 with a run batted in for the Cardinals, who have won three of their last four. Ryan Franklin (4-4) tossed two scoreless innings to win in relief of Todd Wellemeyer, who held the Braves to two runs on eight hits in six frames. After Pujols tied the game with a homer in the sixth, he provided the go-ahead run in the eighth when he scored on errant throw from Catcher Corky Miller's throw was errant while stealing third base. 2005 NL Cy Young winner Chris Carpenter will make his first start since Opening Day 2007 on today when he opposes Atlanta's Jair Jurrjens (10-5). John Buck belted a three-run home run and Gil Meche tossed seven solid innings as the Kansas City Royals topped the reeling Oakland Athletics, 5-2, in the second of a three-game series at McAfee Coliseum. Meche (9-9) allowed two runs on five hits, striking out eight and walking two for the Royals, winners of three straight. Joakim Soria tossed a scoreless ninth for his 29th save, setting a single-season record for Mexican-born pitchers. Mike Aviles homered, tripled and scored two runs, while Alex Gordon doubled and scored a run. The Royals and A's play this afternoon in Oakland.

Funeral services for C. Clark Leonard of Salem, age 88, will be held this afternoon at 2:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date. 

Funeral services for Eunice E. Fowler of Camdenton Missouri, age 89, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 9:00 until time of the service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Memorial services for James Marvin Lile of Salem, age 78, will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Edgar Springs Cemetery in Edgar Cemetery.
