The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5615 and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5150, 6240, 6495 and 6500. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune was not in attendance, but Commissioner Simpson reported that District 2 crews would be busy working on roads that received flood damage and all repairs would be paid for by FEMA. Simpson also said that material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 2100, 2340, 2370, 3190 and 4283. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles read a letter from the Census Bureau regarding a Statistical Areas Program that would be conducted through MRPC. The program is beneficial to counties for grant purposes because each county has to give their population based on the most recent population census, but this program would allow counties to show their population change. The total cost of the program is $2,000 and that is to be split up among each county that decides to participate. So far, Phelps, Maries, Crawford and Pulaski have decided to participate in the program, and Commissioner Skiles proposed that Dent County also participate and Commissioner Simpson agreed. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the last day to request a mail out ballot is Wednesday and she also wanted to let everyone know that the courthouse will be open this Saturday from 8 am until noon for absentee voting. The Commission then met with Susan Cunningham of Spatial Data Research who updated the Commission on rural addressing.  The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report involving a burglary and peace disturbances. On July 20^th at 10:09 in the evening, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a burglary, which was to have occurred between July 6^th and July 20^th at a residence located off of C Highway near Lenox. Reported taken were a 20" television, a 32" television, a barbecue grill, and also a deep-freeze. The investigation led to the recovery of the items stolen on July 24^th. A 28-year old male was taken into custody and he is being held in the Dent County Jail pending warrants. On July 22^nd at 12:20 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report in regards to peace disturbance from a resident located off of Dent County Road 5170. The investigation led to a citation being issued to a 17-year old male. On July 22^nd at 10:00 in the evening, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a peace disturbance from a resident located off of Route B. That investigation led to citations being issued to a 63-year old male for peace disturbance and littering.

Aaron M. Hopgood of Rolla was sentenced to 78 months in prison on federal child pornography charges, according to US Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway.  At the conclusion of his prison term, he will be on supervised release for life. In March 2007, a woman made a Cyber Tipline Report to the National Center for Missouri and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in Washington, D.C. In that report she stated that she had logs of inappropriate conversations between a young relative and a man. She also said that she had screen captures of inappropriate pictures sent to the relative in an instant-message communication. Upon receipt of this report, NCMEC forwarded the information to the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. A subsequent investigation identified the man as Aaron Hopgood residing in Rolla, and a search warrant was executed at his residence. The search revealed multiple images of child pornography. 30-year old Hopgood, of Rolla, pled guilty in May to one felony count of possession of child pornography, and appeared for sentencing before United States District Judge Donald J. Stohr. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood launched in February of 2006.

Joe Mather went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, and the St. Louis Cardinals roughed up the reeling Atlanta Braves, 12-3, in the start of a four-game set at Turner Field. Albert Pujols doubled and drove in three runs for the Cardinals, who won for just the second time in their last eight games. Ryan Ludwick went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in, while Yadier Molina knocked in two runs and doubled. Braden Looper (10-8) allowed two runs on seven hits in seven innings to snap a five-start winless streak and beat the Braves for the first time since September 12, 2003, when he was a reliever with the Florida Marlins. The Cardinals and Braves tangle again tonight at 5:50 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Cardinals made a roster move yesterday as they optioned pitcher Mitchell Boggs to Triple-A Memphis and called up outfielder Nick Stavinoha. Stavinoha got an infield single in his first big league at-bat last night.

Zack Greinke struck out a career-high 11 in 7 1/3 innings, and the Kansas City Royals downed the Oakland Athletics, 4-2, in the opener of a three-game set. Greinke (8-7) scattered seven hits and two runs and walked one to get the win for the Royals. Alex Gordon went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, and Jose Guillen also hit a two-run homer for Kansas City, which has won two straight after dropping five of six. Joakim Soria's 1-2-3 ninth notched his 28th save and the win for the Royals. Kansas City rapped out 11 hits and left eight runners on base. The Royals and A's will play again tonight in Oakland.

St. Louis Rams have signed cornerback Courtney Grixby and claimed offensive tackle Julius Wilson off waivers from Miami. The Rams also released offensive tackle Stephen Sene.
