Adam Wainwright pitched seven strong innings as the St. Louis Cardinals grabbed a 1-0 win over the Chicago Cubs in the finale of a three-game set. Wainwright (13-5) gave up five hits and three walks while striking out three for the Cardinals, who got their lone run from a first inning Matt Holliday solo home run. The Cardinals have the day off today.
The St. Louis Cardinals announced that they have signed veteran free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski. To make room for Pierzynski on the team’s active roster, the Cards have designated catcher George Kottaras for assignment.
Carlos Santana hit two home runs and drove in four as Cleveland clobbered Kansas City, 10-3, in the finale of a four-game set. Billy Butler went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Royals, whose five-game win streak came to a halt. Alex Gordon and Jarrod Dyson each knocked in a run for the hosts. The Royals also have the day off today.

Graveside service for Ellen A. (Suzie) Tucker of Farmington, age 82, will be held at 11:00 this morning at the Boss Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
Funeral services for Eugene (Gene) Allen Williams of Salem, age 76, will be held at 11:00 Wednesday morning at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Patterson Cemetery in Salem.
Funeral services for John “David” Flett of Rolla, age 83, will be held at 2:00 Wednesday at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorials Gardens in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Grace Organization or Love Organization.
