Chris Duncan belted a grand slam and Albert Pujols added a three-run homer as the St. Louis Cardinals routed the Chicago Cubs, 11-1, in the finale of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Pujols tied a season high with five RBI and Scott Rolen hit a solo homer for the Cardinals, who had lost three of their previous four games. St. Louis starter Braden Looper (8-8) went seven innings, yielding just one run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Looper also drove in a run and scored twice. Chicago starter Jason Marquis (7-6) was tagged for six runs on five hits with four walks and one strikeout over five innings. The Cards begin a four game series with Milwaukee tonight at 7:00 with a day-night doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow and a single game on Sunday. You can hear all the games on KSMO.
Alex Gordon went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored as Kansas City cooled down New York with a 7-0 victory to avoid a four-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium. Kansas City starter Jorge De La Rosa (8-10) pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings while scattering six hits. He also struck out five and walked two while Zack Greinke and Joakim Soria kept the Yankees off the board to keep the shutout intact. Tony Pena finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who won for just the second time in their last six games. The Royals will host the Texas Rangers this weekend.
