The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse.  In the road report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was being done on Dent County Roads 5600 and 6400, plus due to Monday’s heavy rains in District 1 patch grading was being done on Dent County Roads 6010, 6040 and 6460.  Purcell went on to say that brush was being cut on Dent County Road 6660 and that he had two men doing maintenance and repair on the brush cutter and two dump trucks.  District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was being done on Dent County Roads 2010, 2380, 5280, and 3180.  Larson went on to say that brush was being cut on county roads 2130, 2195, and 2190 and that materials were being hauled to county road 3180.  Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles said that he had visited with Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley and Circuit Clerk Ruth Ann Williams about authorizing the collection of the Domestic Violence Fund Fee.  Lisa Blackwell had recently brought it to the Commissioners attention that the collection of the $2.00 fee had not been authorized.  Neither Curley nor Williams saw any problem in collecting the fee, which will be collected as part of the court costs.  Skiles went on to say that Williams did point out that the fee would only apply to criminal cases and only to certain ones of those cases.  The Commissioners signed the authorization.  Deputy Dent County Clerk Crystal Pilkington had nothing to report.  Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported on the receipt of CART Funds. The year-to-date receipts are down by $2,523.95. Williams went on to say that the 2012 January to July receipts were $354,332.00 and the 2013 receipts for the same time period were $351,808.05. Ross Branson, Field Representative for Eighth District Congressman Jason Smith, stop by to gather feedback and share information with the Commissioners. Branson said that Representative Smith is continuing to address the Department of the Interior White River Blueways designation that was withdrawn by the Department.  He also encouraged the Commissioners to attend the Field Hearing on the issue in West Plains next Monday.  Representative Smith, Representative Billy Long and Arkansas lawmakers have a number of individuals lined up to address the issue, in particular how the Department of Interior made the designation without public input.  City of Salem Planning and Zoning Chairman Jerry Craig, City of Salem Administrator Clayton Lucas, and Dent County Assessor Tina Whitaker came in to start a dialogue with the Commissioners about the possibilities of partnering with the County on the mapping service used by the Dent County Assessors office. A fact-finding meeting with Intrinsic Mapping Services of Hollister, Dent County’s service provider, is scheduled for Tuesday August 6th. Before leaving Commissioner Skiles shared with the group that he and Clayton Lucas had discussed the Stagner Cemetery and removal of the fence.  Lucas had said that it would be fine for the county to go in on city property to tear out the old fence.  Darrell Decker of Springfield representing the insurance consortium the county is part of came by to discuss the affects of the Affordable Health Care Act, commonly called Obamacare.  Decker stated that they were working with the insurance carrier to minimize the affects of the act.  The Consortium is in the second of the three-year contract and bids for new coverage will be taken in 2014.  Deputy Wayne Becker stopped by to update the Commission on replacement of the 911 computer and the ups, Un-interruptible Power Supply.  The ups failed during this week’s power outage. The next meet of the Commissioners will be Monday at 9:00 at the Courthouse and it is open to the public.
