The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, July 6th at 11:12 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Babb Lane truck parking area in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took 50 gallons of diesel fuel, a pair of Muck rubber boots, and a tool set. The items are valued at $278.50. At 11:43 that same morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to property damage. That investigation revealed that a 46-year old Salem male damaged a baby stroller valued at $75. He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. On Saturday, July 7th at 1:31 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Hunt in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 21-year old Salem female had assaulted a 34-year old Salem male. She was arrested, incarcerated on a 12-hour hold, and issued a summons to appear in court upon her release. At noon the same day an officer was contacted at the station in reference to property damage. That investigation revealed that a 64-year old Salem female had damaged property valued $75. She was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. At 11:21 that night, an officer was dispatched to the 1100 block of West Franklin in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took $80 cash from a residence. On Sunday, July 8th at 10:58 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of North Iron in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a red Mongoose BMX style bicycle valued at $140 from the carport of a residence. On Monday, July 9th at 11:33 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation revealed that a 38-year old Ellington female took merchandise valued at $38.12. She was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. Anyone with any information regarding the theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
Groups and youth now have new ways to volunteer in Missouri state parks. The Adopt-a-Park and Youth Volunteer Patch programs have recently been added to the ways people can volunteer to improve Missouri state parks and historic sites. The Missouri State Parks Adopt-a-Park Program gives families, organizations, youth groups, school groups, and businesses the opportunity to support a Missouri state park or historic site. Areas within a park or historic site, such as trails, campgrounds, picnic areas and streams, can be adopted. Groups are asked to contribute 200 hours of service hours a year for two years. After completion of 100 hours, a sign will be put up at the park or historic site recognizing the group’s efforts. The Youth Volunteer Patch Program gives individuals under the age of 18 and organized youth groups, such as Scouts, 4-H groups and Future Farmers of America, the opportunity to assist with a variety of projects in a state park or historic site to earn patches. Groups or individuals should contact the park or historic site to arrange a day of service. Upon completion, each individual will receive a Missouri State Parks Youth Volunteer patch. Attorney General Chris Koster wants to warn residents that scam artists are contacting Missourians by telephone and mail, telling them they have won cash prizes in excess of one million dollars, and claiming that the recipient must pay fees and taxes to several government agencies, including the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, to collect their prize. According to Koster, the letters are sent on official-looking letterhead allegedly from government agencies including the FBI, the IRS, the Department of Justice, and the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. One of the letters claims “due to the constitution and the legislation rights of the State of Missouri, the procedures require that 50% of the Revenue Tax should be submitted within 3-5 days of the actual notification date.” The letters include specific amounts the consumer should pay. The letter falsely attributed to the Missouri Attorney General’s Office makes reference to a law that does not exist in Missouri. Koster said if consumers are ever in doubt as to whether a letter they receive is from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office or any other government agency they should contact his hotline at 800-392-8222.
MoDOT wants to remind motorists that roadwork continues this week in our area. In Crawford County, roadway resurfacing will continue on Highway 19 between Highway 8 and Highway 49, through Friday. Roadside maintenance will take place today and Friday on Route M between Highway 8 and Route YY. In Dent and Phelps County, chip sealing the roadway surface will take place today on Route H between Highway 72 and Highway 63. Motorists should expect to encounter loose gravel on the road surface for several days after the seal coat is complete. In Phelps County, the replacement of the Route B Bridge over Robinson Creek is under way. Roadway resurfacing on Highway 63 between I-44 and the Maries County line continues. Roadway maintenance continues until Friday on Highway 8 between Route 68 and St. James. And also in Phelps County, chip sealing the roadway surface on Route E between Route HH and the end of state maintenance takes place this week. Motorists should expect to encounter loose gravel on the road surface for several days after the seal coat is complete. Rafael Furcal singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 victory on Wednesday. Kyle Lohse drove in a run for the Cardinals while also tossing seven innings of two-run ball. He allowed seven hits and struck out four without walking a batter. Before the game, St. Louis purchased the contract of four-time All-Star reliever Brian Fuentes from Double-A Springfield. To make room for Fuentes on the 40-man roster, the Cardinals optioned pitcher Victor Marte to Triple-A Memphis and designated pitcher Chuckie Fick for assignment. The Cardinals and Dodgers play again this afternoon and you can hear it on KSMO at 12:10.
Torii Hunter went 4-for-5 with a solo homer and three RBI as the L.A. Angels of Anaheim dominated the Kansas City Royals, 11-6, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Jeff Francoeur and Billy Butler homered for the Royals, who were trying to win back-to-back games for the first time since June 29th. Luke Hochevar (6-9) allowed eight runs, six earned, on nine hits before being ejected in the fourth inning. The Royals will start a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners tonight.

Funeral services for Leo Grogan of Salem, age 82, will be Saturday at 11:00 am at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Chapel. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Maxine (Land) Gray formerly of Salem, age 88, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Ellisville. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin. Interment will be in the Lakewood Park Cemetery.
