The Salem Business Revitalization Committees are inviting all Town Hall participants and the general public to attend their next open meeting on Monday, July 30th at 6:00 at the Salem TCRC in the Salem Freedom Activity Center. Salem Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs will begin by addressing the entire group with the results of the last town hall meeting, discuss the development of the Vision Statement and discuss the latest DREAM application submitted by the City of Salem. Chairman Stan Podorski will then present a short power point presentation about different options that can be pursued, the need to co-operate with the City of Salem, business owners and property owners, and some possible funding resources to start the process rolling. The large group will then break out into the four designated smaller groups on Financing, Business Attraction and Expansion, Infrastructure and Buildings, and Beautification to gather ideas on how to initiate the process, plan tasks, and write objectives for each group. The entire group will then review and discuss the results of the group discussions before adjourning. The Salem Business Revitalization meeting is open to the public, especially business owners and property owners who would benefit most from this effort.

Salem R-80 Schools have announced the schedule for open houses for all their schools. William Lynch Elementary and the Salem Upper Elementary will hold open house on Monday, August 13th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The Junior and Senior High Schools will have open house on Tuesday, August 14th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Enrollment for the 2007-2008 school year for the Salem Junior and Senior High will be Monday through Thursday, August 6th-9th from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. New students in grades 10th-12th will enroll on Monday the 6th along with new Junior High students in grades 7-9th.  On Tuesday, August 7th, Seniors will enroll, as well as 7th graders and any new high school students. On Wednesday, the 8th, Juniors will enroll, as well as 8th Graders, and on Thursday, the 9th, Sophomores and Ninth Graders will enroll.  Enrollment for Junior High students will be held in the Junior High Library. Senior High Students will enroll in the Senior High Library. School starts on Thursday, August 16th

The Salem Police Department released their reports for the July 7th through the 13th involving assault, drugs, disorderly conduct and a fugitive warrant. On July 7th at 10:13 pm, an officer was detailed to the 600 block of North Henderson in reference to a disturbance. The report revealed that a 17-year old Salem female attempted to assault a 27-year old Salem male with a knife. She was arrested for 2nd degree assault with a knife and was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On July 8th at 7:02 pm, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of West Ninth in reference to an assault that led to the arrest of a 46-year old Salem male for assaulting a 29-year old Salem male. He was issued two summons to appear in court and released. On July 11th at 10:21 am, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of East Fourth. The report led to the arrest of a 46-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana, he was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 11:47 the same morning, an officer was detailed to the 200 block of South Main for an intoxicated person passed out on the sidewalk. The report led to the arrest of a 58-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was incarcerated and issued a summons to appear in court upon his release. At 11:28 that evening, officers were detailed to a residence in the 700 block of South Jackson in reference to a fugitive. Officers located a 32-year old Salem male, and placed him under arrest on a Probation and Parole warrant from the State of Missouri. He was incarcerated pending extradition. Signups for the 5th and 6th grade Salem Tigers Youth Football will be held Monday at 5;00 at the Al Brown Fields Pavillion. Rural 5th and 6th graders are welcome. For more information, call Chris at 626-1300 or Craig at 729-7177.

Ted Lilly won his sixth straight start, as the Chicago Cubs downed the rival St. Louis Cardinals, 7-1, in the middle of a three-game series at Busch Stadium. The southpaw allowed just one run on six hits over seven innings for the Cubs, who have won five of seven. They now trail the Brewers by just two games in the NL Central. Adam Wainwright (9-8) was charged with six runs on nine hits over five frames for St. Louis, which has dropped three of four. Juan Encarnacion provided most of the Cards' offense, going 4-for-4 with an RBI. The Cards and Cubs wrap up their series tonight at 7:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Alex Rodriguez was 2-for-5 and hit his 499th career home run as New York routed Kansas City, 7-1, in the third installment of a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Mike Mussina gave up just six hits and one run in 5 2/3 innings. Mussina (5-7) struck out four and walked a pair en route to his first win in his last four starts. Royals hurler Gil Meche (7-7), who had gone 4-0 in his last seven starts coming into the game, allowed nine hits and five runs over 7 1/3 innings in the loss. Reggie Sanders knocked in the lone run for the Royals, losers of three straight and four of five. Ross Gload finished 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. The Royals and Yankees will finish up their series tonight.

The Kansas City Royals released struggling  starting pitcher Scott Elarton on Wednesday. Elarton went 2-4 with a robust 10.46 ERA in nine starts this season for the Royals. In his last outing on Tuesday against the Yankees, Elarton was charged with six hits and seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings in his first start after being activated from the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right foot.

The St. Louis Blues re-signed forward Lee Stempniak to a multi-year contract on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Stempniak had the best season of his young career last year, recording a team-high 27 goals and 25 assists, in all 82 games for the Blues. In 139 career NHL games, the West Seneca, New York native has totaled 41 goals, 38 assists and 55 penalty minutes with the Blues.

Funeral Mass for George Boyko of Licking, age 55, will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Licking. Visitation will be Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 at the Fox Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Licking Cemetery.

Funeral services for Henry Thomas Adams of Steelville, age 88, will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Steelville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 tonight at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Pleasant Point Cemetery in Steelville.

Funeral services for Violet Mounce of Summersivlle, age 84, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the Bradford Funeral Home in Summersville. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 9:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
