The 2013 4H-FFA EXPO will be held July 31^st through August 3^rd at the Oakwood Mule Farms on Highway HH. On Wednesday, July 31^st the 4H exhibit judging will at 10:00 am, dessert entry are due by 5:00 and the dessert auction starts at 6:00. Thursday, August 1^st the livestock registration is from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Livestock weigh-ins are at 1:00 and family games and an evening of entertainment will be from 7:00 to 10:00. On Friday, August 2^nd the hog show will be at 8:00am, the sheep/goat show will begin at 1:30, the small animal show is at 3:00 and the beef/dairy show will be 4:00. That evening family games and an evening of entertainment will once again from 7:00 to 10:00. Then on Saturday, August 3^rd the final day of the 4H-FFA EXPO the FFA tractor pull will start off the day at 9:00, followed by the buyer’s luncheon at 12:00 (noon). The 4H-FFA market sale, livestock auction will begin at 1:30 and if you are not able to attend be sure and tune in to KSMO Radio, 1340AM as the livestock auction will be heard in it’s entirety on KSMO. Family games will include: a turtle race, calf scramble, frog jumping contest, youth relay races, a pet fashion show, and a greased pig contest. There will also be a nickel scramble, tug of war, a peewee stick horse race, super farmer for youth and adults and a chicken race. Everyone is welcome to attend and come out and enjoy all the festivities.

As temperatures reach well above 90 degrees across the state, the Missouri Department of Transportation advises motorists to be aware that the heat can affect the surface of roadways. The heat can cause pavement blow-ups. These occur when the roadway surface expands at a crack or joint where moisture has seeped in. The crack weakens the pavement and the heat causes the pavement to buckle and warp.  MoDOT crews are monitoring state routes for these blow-ups and will make repairs as soon as they occur. Motorists who come across a blow-up to report the problem so crews can make necessary repairs.  Motorists can call MoDOT's toll-free customer service center at 1-888-888-275-6636 to report pavement blow-ups.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol released arrest reports in the Dent and Phelps County areas. On Friday, July 19^th at 1:07 in the afternoon in Phelps County, 29-year old Bobby Bockover of St. James was arrested and charged with a Crawford County warrant with the following charges; a non moving traffic violation for careless and imprudent driving involving an accident, failure to acquire insurance, failure to register a motor vehicle, no seatbelt and leaving the scene of the accident. He is being held in the Phelps County Jail on bond. At. 10:45 in the evening in Dent County, 24-year old Elizabeth Williams of Salem was arrested and charged with Dent County warrants for driving while revoked on a first offense and authorizing another to operate a motor vehicle with out maintaining financial responsibility. She is being held in the Dent County Jail on bond. On Monday, July 22^nd at 2:15 in the afternoon in Dent County, 26-year old Joshua Heimburger of Salem was arrested and charged with a felony Dent County warrant for stealing a motor vehicle. He is being held in the Dent County Jail on bond. At 9:55 that evening in Phelps County, 29-year old Mark Collins of Jerome was arrested and charged with a felony for possession of a controlled substance and a felony for unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. He was held in the Dent County Jail on a 24-hour hold.

Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was elected by the Meramec Region Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) to serve as the group’s secretary in FY2013-2014 at its most recent meeting. The TAC assists the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) in transportation planning efforts throughout the eight-county Meramec Region. Skiles has been a member of the TAC for six years, and, as secretary, he will be responsible for assuring the recording and accuracy of TAC meeting minutes and the safe custody of TAC documents. He is replacing John Kleffner of Maries County, who served the maximum two years as TAC secretary. The remaining slate of officers–John Petersen of Phelps County as chairman and Leo Sanders of Crawford County as vice chairman–were re-elected to second terms. Roadwork continues in our area. In Crawford and Dent County, roadway resurfacing and widening of shoulders continue on Highway 19 between Highway 49 and the Salem City limits. Also in Dent County, roadway resurfacing and widening of shoulders continues on Highway 32 between Highway 72 and the Salem City limits. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall. Roadway maintenance will take place on Route FF between Route 68 and Highway 72 today through Thursday, August 1^st. In Phelps County roadway resurfacing and signal upgrades continue on Highway 72 between Highway 63 and county road 5220. The project is scheduled for completion in the winter. Shane Robinson and Matt Adams each drove in three runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to an 11-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the middle tilt of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Yadier Molina, David Freese, Matt Carpenter, Brock Peterson and Pete Kozma all contributed with an RBI. Jake Westbrook (7-4) pitched seven solid innings, allowing nine hits and three runs, fanning two without issuing a walk. The Cardinals and Phillies will play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 5:40.

Eric Hosmer delivered the game-tying two- run homer in the eighth, then Alcides Escobar won it with an RBI double in the ninth, as Kansas City rallied to down Baltimore, 4-3, in the third test of a four-game set. Ervin Santana worked the first eight frames for the Royals, allowing seven hits and three runs. Hosmer added an early solo homer, with Billy Butler and Escobar chipping in a pair of hits each for the Royals, who have taken two of the first three in the series. The Royals and Orioles play again tonight at 7:10.

Funeral services for Hazel Josephine Aaron of Rolla, age 89, will be today at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Roach Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Phelps County Homecare Hospice.

Funeral services for Iona “Sam” (Byrd) Akers Deubig of Salem, age 81, will be held today at 3:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 1:30 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Revival Tabernacle.

Funeral services for Elder Berlie Turnbough of Steelville, age 77, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00.
