The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, June 29th at 11:34 at night, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year old Columbia female for driving while intoxicated and a 25-year old passenger of Fulton for possession of drug paraphernalia and open beer container. After posting bond, both were released on summons to appear in court. On Saturday, June 30th at 8:10 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft.  That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a Toshiba lap top computer valued at $2,100 from a residence in the 800 block of East First. On Monday, July 1st at 1:02 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of South Jackson in reference to a fight in progress. The investigation led to the arrest of a 31-year old Salem female for assault, disorderly conduct, property damage, and harassment. A 27-year old Rolla male was also arrested for assault and property damage. The female was incarcerated on a 12-hour hold and later released on summons to appear in court. The male was issued summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, July 1st at 4:56 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of North Jackson in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took $7 cash and prescription drugs. On Tuesday, July 3rd at 10:55 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to trespassing. That investigation led to the arrest of a 40-year old Salem male for violating a no trespass order. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that afternoon at 3:39, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to trespassing. The investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem female for violating a no trespass order. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Wednesday, July 4th at 8:12 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown stole a check and forged it in the amount of $60. Missouri Lottery has announced that a 58-year old Salem woman has won $10,000 at the instant-ticket vending machine at Country Mart in Salem. Elizabeth Russell was the lucky winner as she played the ‘$1,000,000 Payout’ game to win big. Russell explained that she bought two $10 games on Thursday, July 19th and they were both winners. She said she won $20 by playing the “$750,000 Taxes Paid” game and then won the $10,000. Russell was accompanied by her husband, Tom, and two close friends to Missouri Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. The excursion included a stop at Red Lobster to celebrate the win and other plans for the windfall were simple. She said they were going to “pay bills and fill up the propane tank.”

An accident occurred at 11:35 Tuesday morning in Dent County on Route CC about ten miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 16-year old Hailey Hunter of Salem was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand AM and swerved to avoid a vehicle in her lane. The vehicle then traveled off the roadway and overturned. Hailey and an occupant, 60 year-old Howard Hunter of Salem, suffered moderate injuries, and were taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the ambulance. Howard was the only one wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Pontiac was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

This year’s Dent County 4-H/FFA Livestock Show and Sale is being held as the Dent County 2012 4-H/FFA Expo. The event will be held Wednesday, August 1st through Saturday, August 4th at Jerry Lough’s Oakwood Mule Farm located on Highway HH, one mile south of Salem’s Highway 32 and MacArthur junction. In addition to the Livestock Show and Market Sale, Dent County 4-H exhibits will be on display, a dessert auction will be held, as well as evening entertainment on both Thursday and Friday nights. Thursday night will feature old-fashioned games and contests sponsored by local organizations. Anyone is welcome to participate in the contests by signing up at the Dent County Extension office or at the Expo. An Ozark Mule Jump and music by the Dark Horse Band will be held Friday night. No gate fee will be charged for any of the events. Everyone is invited to join the Expo for an old-fashioned county fair atmosphere that will be family friendly and provide entertainment both youth and adults.

The Ozark National Scenic Riverways will host a free “Ozark Dinner Theater” event at Big Spring on Saturday, July 28th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event highlights traditional Ozark lifeways and culture. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Buzzard Run Bluegrass Band and clogging demonstrations will be done by the Country Fire Cloggers. Catfish dinners and other food and drink items will be available for purchase from the Van Buren Rotary Club. Bring your whole family for this festive occasion at Big Spring, which is located four miles south of Van Buren on Highway 103. Adam Wainwright drove in two runs, scored twice and pitched seven-plus solid frames, as the Cardinals downed the red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-2, in the middle contest of a three-game set. The right-hander first drove in a run in the fourth and then was a big part of St. Louis' six-run sixth. Wainwright (8-10) gave up two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over 7 1/3 frames. Rafael Furcal drove in three runs and Allen Craig hit a two-run double for the Cardinals, who have won four of five. The Cardinals and Dodgers play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 6:40.

Lorenzo Cain belted a two-run homer for the Kansas City Royals as they downed the L.A. Angels on Tuesday, 4-1. Will Smith had the best start of his young major league career for the Royals, as they win for just the third time in its last 10 games. The left-hander pitched seven innings allowing a pair of hits and a run. The Royals and Angels play again tonight.

Funeral services for Leo Grogan of Salem, age 82, will be Saturday at 11:00 am at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Chapel. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
