The Salem Memorial District Hospital regular board of directors meeting was held Thursday evening in the Hospital Library. Controller Stephanie Wofford stated that for the month of June there was an excess of expenses over revenues for the month of $361,114. During the fiscal year, there was a loss of operations of $562,299 but with the unrestricted tax of $461,284 the excess of expenses over revenues for the fiscal year was $101,015. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy gave her report for June. There were 67 acute care patients admitted, 834 emergency room visits for the month, 1,860 outpatient registrations, 179 ambulance runs with 189 patients being assessed, 30 surgery cases, 204 home health visits, 9,849 lab tests, 1,236 radiological procedures, 287 CT scans, 36 MRI scans, 17 nuclear med scans, 406 rehab treatments, 235 dialysis treatments and 399 clinical visits. Administrator Dennis Pryor reported that the hospital auxiliary raised $2,180 from their bed sheet fundraiser. The next fundraiser will be the Books Are Fun on September 27^th and then the Holiday Home Tour scheduled for December 4^th. Lacy gave the Patient Call Light Report for April thru June. Staff members are present in each patient’s room an average of 69 times per day with an average time of 5 minutes and 40 seconds per event. In the construction update, the Long Term Care steel structure is now in place and the Chapel is nearly complete. Pryor said that the hospital continues to gather information for the hospice program that could begin the first of next year. The next health screening will be held on September 7^th and 8^th. The Inpatient and AER Patient Satisfaction survey results were discussed. The hospital continues to meet patient expectations. Pryor reported the hospital employees have collected $1,014 for the Hospital Employee Relief Fund (HERO) that can be used to help hospital staff in case of disaster. Pryor gave the Chief of Staff report and the board approved the recommended courtesy privileges for Christopher Johnson, DPM, Charles Featherly, DO, Casey Jason, MD and three doctors as Tele-Radiology Physicians. Kasey Lucas went over the Electronic Medical Record conversion as the CPSI test server has been installed and user based logins for employees are now live. The board approved the budgeted purchase of two tablet PC’s for Information Systems from CompUSA for $5,303 and four mobile chart carts for Acute Care for $30,562 from Goss & Associates. The board set the tax rate hearing for August 18 at 5:45 PM.  The board held an election of officers and approved Leon Kreisler as Chairman, A.J. Seay as Vice-Chairman and Dennis Fiebelman as Secretary. The board then went into closed session.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 42-year old Michael W. Barton of Rolla, was sentenced to 51 months in prison and lifetime supervised release for possession of child pornography.  He appeared for sentencing before United States District Judge Catherine D. Perry. The Rolla Police Department and the South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Carrie Costantin handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

An accident occurred at 5:50 Friday evening in Phelps County on Route E near County Road 8430. According to the highway patrol report, 20 year-old Sean Connor of Rolla fell asleep at the wheel of a 2007 Ford Ranger, which cause the vehicle to run off the right side of the road. Connor suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Ranger sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Ron Dishman Towing of Rolla.

An accident happened Saturday afternoon at 3:35 in Iron County about a half mile north of Viburnum. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Can Am ATV driven southbound on Route Y by 15-year old Alexis Boushie of Viburnum, slowed to make a left turn into a private driveway. At that time, a 2003 Chevrolet driven southbound by 24-year old Anthony Kelly of Bixby, attempted to pass the ATV on the left and struck the ATV. Suffering minor injuries were Boushie and a 15-year old passenger, Kenna Brakefield of Steelville. Boushie and Brakefield were transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Both vehicles had minor damage and were driven from the scene.

An accident happened Saturday night at 8:00 in Pulaski County. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo driven westbound by 22-year old Ammon Chambers of Edgar Springs, lost control of the vehicle, ran off  the roadway and struck a tree. Chambers suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Monte Carl sustained moderate damages and was removed from the scene by Jack’s Towing.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released their arrest reports for Dent County. On Monday, July 18^th at 6:50 in the evening, 25 year-old Robert Herz of Columbia was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and put on a 12-hour hold. On Tuesday, July 19^th at 6:05 in the evening, 51 year-old Timothy Tracy of Salem was arrested and charged with possession of up 35 grams of marijuana, failure to register a motor vehicle, and no insurance. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released. On Thursday, July 21^st at 9:25 that night, 18 year-old Orion Vannortwick of Salem was arrested on a felony Dent County warrant for sexual assault. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and held on no bond.

Chase d'Arnaud scored Xavier Paul with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th, as the Pittsburgh Pirates avoided a three-game sweep with a dramatic 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Jason Motte (3-2) surrendered the final run. Colby Rasmus went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored but the Cardinals couldn't extend their win streak to four games. Kyle Lohse allowed two runs on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts. The Cards took two of three games in Pittsburgh and ended their nine game road trip with a 4-5 record. The Cards will host the Houston Astros starting a four-game series tonight at 6:40 on KSMO.

Alex Cobb went seven scoreless innings to help the Tampa Bay Rays defeat the Kansas City Royals, 5-0, and avoid a sweep in the finale of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Mike Aviles had a double while Eric Hosmer and Melky Cabrera picked up hits for the Royals, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Felipe Paulino (1-4) tossed 5 2/3 innings in defeat, giving up four runs on seven hits while fanning six and walking a pair. This was the fifth time the Royals have been shut out this season. The Royals will be in Boston tonight.
