The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune was not in attendance. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5400, 6280 and 6283; and east of Salem on Dent County Roads 4220 and 4225.  Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5150, 5160 and 5615; and material would be hauled to Dent County Road 6083. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he along with Ray Walden, Sherry Lea and Charlie Pace from Salem TCRC have been attending training sessions this week to learn how to calculate, apply and register rural addresses. Once training is complete, TCRC will be the contact for county residents when they build new structures to receive an address through the rural addressing system. Skiles also said that Susan Cunningham with Spatial Data Research would be at Mondays meeting to update the Commission on rural addressing. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the last day to request a mail out ballot for the August 5^th Primary Election is July 30^th and the last day to absentee vote is August 4^th. Curley also wanted to let everyone know that the courthouse will be open August 2^nd from 8:00 am until noon for anyone who would like to absentee vote. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving assault and child abuse. On June 18^th at 9:37 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Truman in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 50-year old Salem female had assaulted a 27-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On June 21^st at 2:45 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of West Eighth in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed that a 28-year old Salem male had assaulted a 41-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On June 29^th at 10:13 in the morning, an officer was sent to the 1000 block of West Ellis in reference of child abuse. Investigation of the report revealed a female juvenile had injuries to her face. The source of the injuries is being investigated. On June 30^th at 6:50 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of North Russell in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 30-year old Salem male had assaulted a 57-year old Salem male. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On July 4^th at 11:38 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 19-year old Salem male had assaulted another 19-year old Salem male. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released.

South Central Missouri Community Action Agency (SCMCAA) will be hosting its 9^th Annual Dent County Back-To-School Fair in Salem on Tuesday, July 29^th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Commons. The school fair is designed to help alleviate the financial strain put upon low-income families in purchasing the necessary school supplies and services for their children. In 2007, nearly 350 children were served during the annual event. Many services such as vision and hearing screenings, immunization checks, weight and height screenings, dental hygiene information, haircuts, fingerprinting and much more will be provided FREE. To avoid waiting in line, parents and legal guardians are highly encouraged to pre-register before the day of the fair. To pre-register an adult member of the household need to drop by the community action office located at 1405 South Wines in Salem between the hours of 7:30 am to 5:30 pm on Monday. Parents should bring social security cards for all members in the household. ALL CHILDREN MUST BE PRESENT THE DAY OF THE FAIR AND ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT. Ryan Braun clubbed a two-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth inning to lift the surging Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals and complete their first-ever four-game sweep in the Gateway City. Ryan Franklin, who came on in the eighth for St. Louis, fanned Ray Durham to begin the ninth, then served up a single to J.J. Hardy before Braun drove an 0-1 fastball over the wall in left-center for his 26th home run of the season. Prince Fielder followed with a double, but Franklin retired Corey Hart and Bill Hall to end the inning. Rick Ankiel and Albert Pujols knocked in the runs for the Cardinals, whose four-game slide comes on the heels of a five-game winning streak. Skip Schumaker had two hits and scored a run. St. Louis starter Todd Wellemeyer went five innings, surrendering two runs on five hits while walking five. Franklin (3-4) was charged with his fifth blown save. The loss dropped the Cardinals four games behind the Cubs. The Cards are off to New York to face the Mets starting at 5:45 tonight on KSMO Radio.

Gil Meche was brilliant on the hill and John Buck drove in two runs, as the Kansas City Royals staved off a late comeback by the Tampa Bay Rays to take a 4-2 victory. Meche (8-9) yielded just five hits while fanning four batters and walking only one over seven scoreless innings. Joakim Soria gave up a run in the ninth, but still managed to earn his 27th save. Ross Gload and Mark Grudzielanek knocked in a run each for the Royals, who snapped a three-game skid. The Royals and Rays play again tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.
