The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the hospital library beginning at 6:00. After the call to order and approval of the minutes from the June 19^th meeting, Administrator Dennis Pryor will give a legislative update, hospital activity calendar, Auxiliary report and address the ER patient and inpatient satisfaction results. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then give the summary of operations and statistics for the month of June along with nursing services, ancillary services and the Call Light reports, followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business, the Board will hear a physician office building report, strategic planning update, Missouri TeleHealth, discuss the long term care state survey and the state-wide hospital employee health insurance consortium. In new business, the Board will address the public tax meeting held Monday, the Missouri Enterprise, Never Events, hospital purchases and the election of officers. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

July is the last month to get in on the “Yard of the Month” contest, and the deadline to turn in your entry in July is today. Anyone can nominate a yard, including his or her own yard, by filling out an entry form at the Chamber office located at 200 South Main, or by calling in the nomination to 729-6900. Be sure that street name and number, name and phone number of the homeowner as well as the name and phone number of the person filling out the entry are listed.  If your nomination is a rural property please include directions to the property. The winner will receive a $50.00 Wal-Mart gift card. The nominee must agree, if they are chosen as the winner, to display the recognition sign in their front yard and have a picture taken for the local newspaper. The “Yard of the Month” contest will be based on curb appeal, in general a well maintained and manicured yard, the use of colors, plants, flowers and decorations, as well as seasonal additions. Overall appearance of the yard is taken into consideration.

U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson announced that 64 percent of Missouri residents over the age of 65 who are enrolled in Social Security or receiving benefits from the Veterans Administration have not satisfied the requirement to receive an economic stimulus check from the federal government. In Dent County, 473 residents who are eligible for the payment have not applied. It’s still not too late for those individuals to file a 2007 federal income tax return, even if they have zero income to report for the year, in order to join the list of Missourians who will receive an economic stimulus payment. To determine eligibility for a stimulus payment and receive instructions for qualifying, citizens may contact the IRS Economic Stimulus Rebate Hotline at 1(866) 234-2942, the IRS Refund Hotline at 1(800) 829-1954, or the Individual Tax Help Hotline at 1(800) 829-1040.  Additional Taxpayer Assistance Centers are located in Jefferson City at (573) 635-6827 and in Springfield at (417) 889-9828.  Online, please visit www.tax-toolkit.com for helpful information. Individuals who have no legal requirement to file a tax return but must do so to receive an economic stimulus payment are eligible to use the IRS Free File program.

Colonel James F. Keathley, the superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces these retirements effective August 1^st. Captain Randy L. Becker, the commanding officer of Troop I, Rolla, retires after 29 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Missouri. He was promoted to designated commanding officer of Troop I in 2002. Captain Stephen J. Hinesly, the director of the Crime Laboratory Division, retires after more than 32 years of dedicated service. He worked the road in Troop I and Troop E, Poplar Bluff, MO. Hinesly became a captain on May 1, 2002, and was designated director of the Crime Laboratory Division.

CC Sabathia hurled a three-hit shutout as Milwaukee blanked St. Louis, 3-0, in the third leg of a four-game set at Busch Stadium. Sabathia (4-0), who threw 5 2/3 hitless innings before Brendan Ryan managed a clean hit to right, was never seriously threatened in the game. The tough left-hander walked just two and fanned seven in the contest en route to recording his eighth career shutout. Brandon Ryan, Ryan Ludwick and Aaron Miles each had a hit for the Cardinals, who have dropped the first three games in this series after winning their previous five. Braden Looper (9-8) was the hard-luck loser, allowing just one run on seven hits in five innings. The Cards and Brewers wrap up their series tonight at 7:05 on KSMO.

Armando Galarraga was perfect through six innings, and wound up allowing three hits and a run over seven frames as Detroit topped Kansas City, 7-1, in the final test of a three-game set from Kauffman Stadium. Galarraga (8-4) began his outing by retiring the first 18 batters he faced, in a bid to become the second Tigers hurler in as many seasons to pitch a no- hitter. David DeJesus hit safely twice for the Royals, who have dropped five of their last seven. Zack Greinke (7-7) allowed seven hits and five runs over six innings to take the loss, despite striking out eight batters. The Royals will host the Tampa Bay Rays tonight.

St. Louis Rams defensive tackle Claude Wroten has been suspended by the NFL without pay for the entire 2008 season due to another violation of its Substance Abuse Policy. The 24-year-old Louisiana native out of Louisiana State University was infamous for failing a drug test during the NFL combine prior to his rookie year in 2006. He will not eligible to return to the team's active roster until May 30, 2009 at the earliest.

St. Louis Rams have signed cornerback Justin King to three-year contract.

Kansas City Chiefs - Signed cornerback Brandon Flowers to four-year contract; and signed wide receivers Sergio Joachim and Timon Marshall to two-year contracts.
