The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a mental commitment order, a woman turning herself in on a felony warrant from Franklin County, and a fight. On Monday, July 11^th at 3:15 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Salem Memorial District Hospital in reference to a mental commitment order. A 25-year old man from Sullivan was taken into custody and transported to the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains on a 96-hour detention and released to their custody. On Tuesday, July 12^th at 1:00 in the afternoon, a 32-year old woman from New Haven turned herself in on a felony warrant from Franklin County Sheriff Department. She posted bond and was released to appear in court in Franklin County. At 8:30 that evening, an officer was sent to Highway 19 and 3rd Street in reference to a fight. That investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem man for 3rd degree assault, and he was incarcerated. A second arrest on a 19-year old Salem man for peace disturbance was conducted, and he was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Thursday, July 14^th at 4:45 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Salem Memorial District Hospital in reference to a mental commitment order. A 35-year old Maryland Heights man was taken into custody and transported to St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis on a 96-hour detention and released to their custody.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the June 27^th meeting, Controller Stephanie Wofford will present the summary of operations and statistics reports for the month of June. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then present the nursing services and ancillary service reports for the month. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will give the Chief of Staff report, provide the auxiliary report, the hospital activity calendar, discuss legislative updates, give a construction update, and go over the inpatient and ER patient satisfaction survey results. In old business, there will be a 2011 strategic planning goals update. In new business, the Board will address hospital purchases, approve a public tax meeting to be held August 18^th at 5:45 pm, and there will also be the election of officers for the Board. The Board may then vote to go into closed session. The monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors tonight is open to the public.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the Salem R-80 Board Room beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will discuss the open house dates and times for all the schools, provide a facilities update, review the annual school bus inspection, and the board will hear about Salem Sports being broadcast on local Fidelity Channel 6. In old business, the Board will consider surplus property bids. In new business, the Board will hear bids on milk, bread, energy and pest control. The Board will then set a tax rate hearing, budget hearing and regular August Board meeting date. The Board will address the reprimand of a Board member and then address resignations. They will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The regular meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education will be held tonight at 6:00 and it is open to the public.

U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson has criticized the National Park Service for limiting access to camping facilities at the Sinking Creek Area of the Ozarks National Scenic Riverways.  She said that for generations, Missouri families have been able to fully enjoy the natural beauty of the Ozark National Scenic Riverway by camping at Sinking Creek. The new restrictions on the sites and access at the park really limit those recreational activities. Most disturbing to the Eighth District Member of Congress is the failure of the National Park Service to include local stakeholders in the decisions to make these changes at Sinking Creek. No one worked with the community to make sure Sinking Creek remained open to the people who use it most frequently. Emerson stated that the National Park Service didn’t even share the work with people who were camping on the site when it started. As a result, their plan has put part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways off-limits at great inconvenience to many of the visitors who know it best and who most appreciate the opportunity to spend time there.

The Salem Football “mini-jamboree” with four teams originally scheduled for 5:00 Friday afternoon, has been moved back to a starting time of 6:30 due to the excessive heat. The “mini” jamboree will be at the Salem High School Football Field.

The New York Mets never led against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday night until Angel Pagan won it in the bottom of the 10th inning with a solo home run to right field in a 6-5 victory at Citi Field. Matt Holliday registered three hits, two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Gerald Laird had an RBI bunt and ended with two hits, while Skip Schumaker contributed two hits and two runs scored in defeat. Cardinal’s starter Kyle McClellan didn't have a great outing and allowed four runs and six hits in six innings for the no-decision. McClellan is still winless in his last eight starts (0-5). Fernando Salas took the loss and drops to 5-4 on the year. The Cards and Mets play this morning at 10:35 on KSMO.

Alex Gordon made a spectacular catch to save runs in the sixth inning and then scored on a Sergio Santos wild pitch in the 11th, giving Kansas City a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox. Kansas City starter Bruce Chen yielded four hits and fanned four over eight innings in the rubber match of this three-game set. Aaron Crow (3-2) pitched two innings to get the win. The Royals have the day off today.
