The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks was in attendance to ask about the current status of rural addressing which the commissioners explained that three bids were received and are being reviewed to make sure that all the needed criteria is the same for each bid; and she asked about the Community Outreach Night and why is wasn’t held. It was explained that the commissioners would support such a meeting of the other elected officials voted to attend which they did not by a 10-1 vote with Sparks casting the lone “yes” vote. In the road report, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that APAC had completed all their District 1 projects last week and did a very good job. He said that grading would be done on Dent County Road 649 if it received enough rain Sunday. If not, work would be done on Dent County Road 624. Simpson further reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 625, 626, 638 and 639 if those roads received enough moisture. Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that Dent County Road 221 is still being rebuilt, and work would be done in the Boss area with rock replacement at a low water slab. Tune reported that grading will also be done in the Stone Hill area and Bangert areas, and brush cutting will also be done in the Boss area. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the new solid waste management law would go into effect in August that provides for stiffer penalties for illegal dumping. He also said that MoDOT contracted with the MRPC for a public transit meeting to be held Friday morning at 9:30 at the MRPC offices. The Commissioners then met with the engineers who are working through the IDA on the Rightway Home Refurbishing Building in the Master’s Industrial Park about the county supplying 2400 ton of rock as the county’s contribution to the project as required by the grant. They will give the county a few days notice before they need the rock. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. and the meeting is open to the public.

Captain Randy Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, Rolla, announces the assignments of three new troopers to Troop I.  These officers began training at the Highway Patrol Academy on January 8, 2007, and graduated on July 13th, after receiving comprehensive training covering all facets of law enforcement. Trooper Aimee N. McMahon will be assigned to Zone 2, which patrols Phelps and Maries counties. Her training officer will be Trooper D.W. Melton. Trooper McMahon is a graduate of Waynesville High School and Mineral Area College in Park Hills, where she earned an associate’s of arts degree in criminal justice. Trooper Joshua J. McDonald will be assigned to Zone 9, Crawford County. His training officer will be Trooper J.A. Mulkey. Trooper McDonald is a graduate of Rolla High School and Mineral Area College, where he an earned associate’s of arts degree in criminal justice. He is married to the former Laura Merson and they have three children. Trooper Christopher A. Kimes will be assigned to Zone 7, Dent County.  His training officer will be Trooper K.D. Wilmont.  Trooper Kimes is a graduate of West Plains High School and Missouri Southern University in Joplin, where he earned a bachelor’s of science degree in criminal justice.

U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson will have her Congressional Connection staff in the area throughout July. Staff from her office will be in Licking on Thursday, July 26th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at their City Hall, and then it will head to Salem, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Salem Chamber of Commerce office on South Main.

Rick Vanden Hurk tossed five scoreless innings and Hanley Ramirez knocked in three runs, as the Florida Marlins blanked the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-0, in the middle contest of a three-game set at Dolphin Stadium. Recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A Albuquerque, Vanden Hurk (3-2) scattered just five hits, walked three and fanned six in his first major league appearance since he defeated Kansas City on June 16. Brad Thompson (6-4) allowed three runs and seven hits, with two walks and three strikeouts over six innings for St. Louis, which had a modest two-game winning streak snapped. The Cards and Marlins play again tonight starting with the Dugout Show on KSMO Radio at 5:45.

Tony Pena went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI as Kansas City routed Boston, 9-3, in the middle contest of a three-game set at Fenway Park. Jimmy Gobble (4-1) picked up the win by hurling two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief. Leo Nunez, who made his major league debut after being called up from Triple-A Omaha, gave up six hits and one run over four innings in the no-decision. John Buck and Billy Butler also drove in a pair for the Royals, who snapped a two-game slide. Alex Gordon had three hits and scored three times, while Mark Grudzielanek added two hits, an RBI and scored twice in the win. The Royals and Red Sox play again tonight.

University of Missouri senior forward Kalen Grimes was dismissed from the team on Tuesday. The action comes after Grimes, who started 24 of Missouri's 30 games last season and averaged 7.0 points and 5.6 rebounds, was involved in an incident in the St. Louis suburb of Florissant on July 7 and subsequently charged with second-degree felony assault.

Private graveside services for Roger Edwin Swan of Salem, age 63, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the Fee Fee Cemetery in Bridgeton. A memorial visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Nieburg-Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton. A memorial Celebration of Life will be held Saturday at 4:00 in Warrenton. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Salem or the cancer research of your choice.

Funeral services for Mary E. Roberts of St. James, age 92, will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in St. James. Visitation will be this evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Boys and Girls Town.

Funeral services for David Wymon Skaggs of Rolla, age 68, will be Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Vichy Campground Church of God in Vichy. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Graveside services for Clark “Pete” D. Lewis of Rolla, age 85, will be Saturday at 11:00 at the Kinder Cemetery in Cuba. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Irma Jean Ilges of St. James, age 51, will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James.
