The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning.  In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5560, 5630, 5680, 6495 and 6497.  Purcell also said that material would be hauled and a culvert would be installed on Dent County Road 4180.  District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4260 and 4270 and a crew would be using the durapatcher to patch the chip and seal on Dent County Roads 3210 and 3220.  Larson also said that material would be hauled and culverts would be installed on Dent County Roads 2200 and 2360.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended an Industrial Development Authority meeting on Wednesday afternoon, where the main topic of discussion was meetings that would be held for new and smaller businesses to help the owner with any insurance, workman’s compensation and other business related questions they might have. David and Sharon Groves came by the meeting to the give the Commission a letter requesting a speed limit of 35 mph be placed on Dent County Road 5220 and Commissioner Purcell said that a speed limit sign would be posted.  Dent County Assessor Brenda Bell stopped by the meeting to let the Commission know that her office has started their annual review of property and will be taking new pictures this year.  A representative from Fabick Equipment was on hand to highlight major differences within their bid they presented last week on a backhoe for the Road and Bridge department compared to the other bids submitted by Erb Equipment and Potter Equipment.  Darren Lingle with Jo Ann Emerson’s office stopped by and he, along with Commissioners Skiles and Purcell will be sitting in on a conference call with Emerson’s office concerning the National Park Services closing off access to Current River, with particular concern to the recent boulders that were placed at Sinkin Creek on 19 South, prohibiting vehicles and campers access to the gravel bar. The three will be traveling to the sight to take pictures and will relay all the information to Emerson’s office.  At 10:00 engineer proposals were opened for the Swiney Bridge project; Integrity Engineering Inc. out of Rolla and Great River Associates out of Springfield submitted their qualifications and the Commission will be looking over each one and will make a decision next week.  Nick Gorondo with Missouri Department of Conservation updated the Commission on their involvement with the Swiney Bridge project; he said that the US Forest Service has committed $175,000, MDC has committed $10,000 and he is working on an additional $35,000 to come from the MDC’s Heritage Foundation.  At the previous meeting the Commission took fuel bids for the Road and Bridge Department for 7,000 gallons of off road diesel and 1,000 gallons of no lead.  Hocker Oil bid $3.30 per gallon for the diesel and $3.28 per gallon for the no lead.  MFA Oil bid $3.29 per gallon for the diesel and $3.29 per gallon for the no lead.  The bid for no lead was awarded to Hocker Oil and the bid for diesel was awarded to MFA Oil.  The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.  The Commission will also hold their quarterly night meeting next Tuesday, July 19^th at 6:00 in the Judicial Building courtroom and that meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released several arrest reports for Dent County. On Saturday, July 2^nd at 7:20 in the evening, 18 year-old Timothy Manly of Salem was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released. On Sunday, July 3^rd at 3:28 in the afternoon, 44 year-old Kimberly Stone of Villa Ridge was arrested on a misdemeanor warrants out of Jefferson City for failure to register a motor vehicle, no state operator’s license, and no lights on a horse drawn carriage. She was taken to the Dent County Jail. On Friday, July 8^th at 8:05 in the evening, 18 year-old Brittaney Klemp of Salem was arrested on a Dent County warrant for 2^nd degree property damage, and she was also charged with no seat belt, no valid license, and no proof of insurance. She was taken to the Dent County Jail. On Monday, July 11^th at 1:40 in the afternoon, 31 year-old Robert Murr of Salem was arrested and charged with felony probation and parole violation. He was taken to the Dent County Jail. On Wednesday, July 13^th at 7:30 in the evening, 32 year-old David Humphrey of Salem was arrested on a felony Jefferson City warrant for parole absconder, a felony Phelps County warrant for child neglect, and misdemeanor Dent County warrants for driving while revoked and speeding. He was taken to the Dent County Jail. On Thursday, July 14^th at 9:22 in the morning, 22 year-old Cody Griffith of Salem was arrested on a Crawford County warrant for driving while intoxicated and a Montgomery County warrant for 2^nd degree property damage, both misdemeanors. He was taken to the Dent County Jail.

Trevor Plouffe, recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, made the most of his second call-up of the season with a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning, helping the Twins nip the Royals, 8-4, in the division foes' first game after the All-Star break. Bruce Chen (5-3) worked out of jams early but was eventually touched for four runs on nine hits over five innings to take the loss, Kansas City's fourth in five games. They play again tonight.

The St. Louis Cardinals begin a nine-game road trip tonight as they start a three game series at Cincinnati against the Reds at 5:35. The Cards come out of the All-Star break with a record of 49-43 and are tied for the lead in their division.
