The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Friday, July 9th at 11:30 a.m. a vehicle was stopped for shooting fireworks from the vehicle. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of the driver, a 21-year old Salem man, on a felony warrant out of Texas County Sheriff Dept. He was incarcerated pending extradition to Texas County. At 2:30 that afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 400 block of South Warfel in reference to a stolen bicycle. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown stole a brown and white Mongoose bicycle from a residence. Then at 3:15 that afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the storage units on Babb Lane in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown stole three General Electric air conditioner units from a storage unit, valued at $1,362. Later that same afternoon at 4:30 p.m. an officer responded to the 1500 block of Highway 19 South in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem woman for a domestic assault. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, July 11th at 1:00 in the early morning, an officer contacted a 13-year old Salem juvenile walking in the 700 block of Highway 19 South. The juvenile was hallucinating and under the influence of a drug. The juvenile was transported to the Salem Memorial Hospital via the Salem Ambulance. After treatment the juvenile was released to the custody of Department of Family Services. At 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, an officer stopped a vehicle on an equipment violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 31-year old Salem man for driving while having his license revoked. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct a Budget Workshop on Tuesday, July 20th at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, budget information will be presented from 6:00 to 6:45 followed by a question and answer period until 7:00 pm. The Budget Workshop is open to the public.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that effective August 1, 2010, the hours of operation for driver’s examination stations throughout the troop will be expanded. The changes in the operating hours are as follows:  In Crawford County, testing will be conducted at the Cuba station from 9:00 a.m. until 4:15 p.m., with the last road test being given at 3:45 p.m. In Steelville, testing will be conducted from 9:15 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., with the last road test being given at 3:30 p.m. In Dent County, testing at the Salem station will be conducted from 8:15 a.m. until 4:15 p.m., with the last road test being given at 3:30 p.m. And in Phelps County, testing at the Rolla station will be conducted from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with the last road test being given at 4:30 p.m.

The Dent County Fall Festival Board invites youth from newborn to 20 years of age to enter the Dent County Fall Festival Pageants. The Baby Contest is for youth age newborn to 18 months of age; the Little Mr. or Miss Dent County is for youth age 19 months to 4 years of age. Those wishing to enter the Jr. Miss Dent County contest need to be 12-15 years of age; and for the Miss Dent County contest the age range is 16 to 20. At approximately 8:00 am on Thursday, July 1st, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped a 2005, Ford F-150 pickup, near the 187-mile marker of Interstate 44, for a traffic violation. After further investigation, the trooper asked and received consent from the driver to search his vehicle. The subsequent search revealed approximately 500 lbs. of marijuana concealed in the vehicle. The driver, 34-year old Jorge Gonzalezmadrid, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was arrested for first degree drug trafficking. After being taken into custody, the suspect was released to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The DEA continued the investigation and will seek federal drug charges against Gonzalezmadrid. In addition to the DEA, the Rolla Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and the South Central Drug Task Force assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol in this investigation. The charge for which Gonzalezmadrid was arrested is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of two DWI saturation patrols conducted in Pulaski County from 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 3rd until 3:00 a.m. Sunday, July 4th. During the operations, troopers placed special emphasis on patrolling those highways where in the past a higher number of impaired drivers were either involved in a traffic crash or arrested for DWI. During the enforcement operations troopers stopped 71 vehicles, issued 28 citations and 85 warnings.  There were three citations for DWI one of which was for a felony, 10 citations for speeding, seven citations for failure to wear a seat belt, two citations for careless and imprudent driving, two citations for driver’s license violations, two citations for no proof of insurance and two citations for vehicle registration violations.

The 11th Annual Back To School Fair will be held on Thursday, July 29th at the Old City Hall for preschool to 12th grade. This fair provides the children in Dent County with health screenings from the Salem Memorial District Hospital, dental/vision/hearing checks, free hair cuts, socks and underwear, backpacks from the Dent County Salvation Army Service Unit and much needed school supplies. To avoid overcrowding, a time schedule has been developed this year. Families with the HEAD of HOUSEHOLD last name A-M are scheduled for 10:00 am to 12:00 (NOON) and families with the HEAD of HOUSEHOLD last name N-Z are scheduled for 12:00 (NOON) to 2:00 pm. All children receiving supplies MUST be present the day of the fair and they will not run out of supplies. The St. Louis Cardinals will be back in action tonight as they kick off a four-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chris Carpenter will be on the mound tonight for St. Louis. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio beginning at 6:55 with the Dugout Show.

The Kansas City Royals will be off one more day before they begin a three-game series with Oakland at Kaufmann Stadium on Friday.

Graveside services for Brandon Lynn Clark of Rolla, age 27, will be held today at 11:00 at the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Family of Brandon Lynn Clark. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Kiley Cheyenne Richardson of Steelville, will be held today at 11:00 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Eaton Cemetery in Cherryville.

Funeral services for George Lee McCann of Rolla, age 83, will be held Friday at 11:00 at James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00.

Funeral services for Norma Jean Smith of Lake St. Louis, formerly of Salem, age 76, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Funeral services for Kem Ann (Stewart) Barbera of Salem, age 50, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Fox Chapel in Licking. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Boone Creek Cemetery.

Funeral services for Donald Chandler of Belleview, are incomplete at this time but are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum.
