The Dent County Fire Protection District has released their reports. On Monday, July 4th an alarm sounded at 6:38 in the evening for a medical assist for EMS crews, to create a landing zone at the station on South Main Street in Salem. A total of 13 fire firefighters responded to the call, which was cancelled while en route. On Wednesday, July 6th an alarm sounded at 1:44 in the afternoon to have aircraft standby at the station. A total of six firefighters responded to the call to provide manpower at the landing zone. On Thursday, July 7th an alarm sounded at 7:00 pm and a total of 15 firefighters responded to the station on South Main Street for training on fire hydrants. At 9:19 that same evening, an alarm sounded for a medical assist for the EMS crew in the 800 block of East First Street to a family dwelling in Salem. A total of 15 firefighters responded to provide manpower.

U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson has unveiled a new website for the Eighth Congressional District of Missouri. The website is accessible at emerson.house.gov. The new site includes news updates, an RSS Feed, information about visiting the capital, photos, and legislative information. A mobile version of the site is available for users of mobile devices.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) and the City of Vienna, in partnership with the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District and the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC), will offer a free waste tire collection from 6:00 am to noon July 15th through July 21st behind the City Hall located at 424 8th Street, in Vienna. Waste tires of all kinds will be accepted at this collection and no fees will be charged. MDNR’s scrap tire fee funds the collection. MDNR will only provide one of these free tire collections in a community. Participants must unload all tires unto the designated trailer behind the maintenance shed. Tires will not be accepted from businesses. The collection is open to any households in the Ozark Rivers District, including Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties. The solid waste district is tasked with reducing by 40 percent the amount of waste generated for disposal. MDNR is working with the Missouri Department of Corrections-Vocational Enterprises on recycling the tires. The 12th ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL FAIR (pre-school thru 12th grade) will be held at the Old City Hall on Monday, July 25th. To avoid overcrowing, the schedule this year to help the event run smoothly: families with the HEAD OF THE HOUSEHOLD last name M - Z appointments will be from 10:00 am to noon; families with the HEAD OF THE HOUSEHOLD last name A - L appointments will be from noon to 2:00 pm. All children receiving supplies MUST be present the day of the FAIR. Pre-register now with Kim or Debra at the South Central Missouri Community Action Agency located at 1405 South Wines or call 729-3500 EXT13 or EXT 14.

Join staff at Onondaga Cave State Park near Leasburg on Saturday, July 16th for an open house and special lantern-led tour of Onondaga Cave. The open house will begin at 4:00 pm, with a short presentation about recent and upcoming park activities. Members of the Onondaga Friends Association will present a short program outlining their role at the park. The public is invited to provide input about the park and its services. The association will provide light refreshments.  At 5:00 pm, the association will conduct a special two-hour lantern-led cave tour of Onondaga Cave.  Characters from Onondaga Cave's past will be highlighted in this historical tour showcasing the cave's history. Space for the tour is limited and advanced reservations are required. A fee of $22 for adults and $12 for children 11-14 will apply. While small children are welcome, this tour will be geared toward an adult audience. Proceeds will be used by the Onondaga Friends Association to enhance interpretive services at the park. Onondaga Cave State Park is located seven miles southeast of the Leasburg exit off of Interstate 44 on Highway H. Those interested in showing or selling beef or dairy cattle, hogs, sheep and goats or small animals at the Dent County Fall Festival that will be held on Saturday, August 13th at the Commons in Salem, will need to obtain their entry form in the Dent County 4-H newsletter or online at their website: extension.missouri.edu/dent/4-h or at the Dent County Fall Festival Association website: dentcountyfallfestival.com. Entry forms are due by Monday, August 1st. Forms will NOT be in the 2011 Fair Book.

Princely power has given the National League back-to-back wins at the All-Star Game for the first time since the mid-1990s. Milwaukee first baseman Prince Fielder hit the go-ahead three-run homer in the fourth inning, helping the NL to a 5-1 triumph over the American League at Chase Field. Fielder was named the All-Star MVP. One year after breaking a 13-game winless streak, the NL has won back-to-back All-Star Games for the first time since taking three in a row from 1994-96 and will have home-field advantage for the World Series this postseason.

Funeral services for Clyde N. Wilson of Lake Spring, age 82, will be held on today at 2:00 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until service time Wednesday. Interment will be in the Rhea Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rhea Cemetery.

Funeral services for Nellie V. Saladin of Monette formerly of St. James, age 90, will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 at the First Church of God in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Church Of God.

Funeral services for Floyd L. Huffman of Rolla, age 68, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to C.O.R.E.
