Ryan Ludwick hit a pair of two-run homers to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the Chicago Cubs, 4-2, in the nightcap of a double-header from Wrigley Field. Adam Wainwright (10-5) got the win as he went eight innings and gave up two runs on seven hits while fanning five and walking three batters. Ryan Franklin struck out the side in the ninth for his 21st save of the 2009 campaign. Wainwright also went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Cardinals, who snapped a two-game slide and earned a split of the four-game set with the Cubbies. Wainwright improved to 3-0 against the Cubs this season. The Red Birds head into the All-Star break with a 49-42 record and sit atop the NL Central.

Carlos Zambrano hit a solo homer and threw six efficient innings, while Micah Hoffpauir added a three-run blast, as the Cubs topped the Cardinals, 7-3, in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. Zambrano (5-4) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven. Ryan Theriot and Jake Fox each had two hits for Chicago. Kyle Lohse (4-5), who hadn't pitched since June 3 due to a strained right forearm, gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings for the Cardinals. Albert Pujols recorded a two-run double, and Joe Thurston went 2-for-4 with an RBI in defeat.

To make room for Kyle Lohse coming back from the disabled list, the Cardinals optioned pitcher Blake Hawksworth to Memphis (PCL).

Tonight will be the Home Run Derby at Busch Stadium and tomorrow will be  the All-Star Game. You can hear the All-Star game on KSMO Radio Tuesday night stating at 7:00.

Josh Beckett threw his fourth career shutout and second of the season on only 94 pitches for his 100th career win, as the Boston Red Sox cruised past the Royals, 6-0, in the finale of a four-game set at Fenway Park. Beckett (11-3) has been one of baseball's hottest pitchers lately, as he allowed just three hits while fanning seven without issuing a walk. He has won nine of his last 10 decisions, dating back to May 5, and has recorded a quality start in 11 of his 13 outings in that span. David DeJesus doubled, one of only three hits for Kansas City (37-51), which has lost five of six and sits in fourth place in the AL Central. Bruce Chen (0-4) lasted only three-plus innings and allowed three runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts to extend his winless streak to 18 starts.
