The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that APAC got started with the chip and seal on the Cedar Grove Road Tuesday after they discovered a part had broken on the chip spreader on Monday. The Cedar Grove Road is now completed and the two cost share chip and seal roads will be completed this week barring something unforeseen happening. Simpson also reported that work continued on the Gladden West Road, also known as Dent County Road 624, as they are doing ditch work and gravel is being hauled to the road as well. In District 2, Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that Dent County Road 221 is still being rebuilt and gravel is continuing to be hauled there from the quarry. He said that a double chip and seal is being done on the Golf Course Road and APAC is also working on Dent County Road 615 and that road actually goes through both districts. Tune also said that brush cutting was going to be done on Dent County Roads 531, 533A and 573. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles attended the Spring Creek meeting Monday night and the group heard from a DNR hydrologist and geologist who discussed the water tables, tributaries and streams in the area. He also attended the local emergency planning committee meeting Tuesday. He said that Kim Ozokio and Jamie Jadwin from the health center completed Red Cross shelter training and feel much more prepared than before if an emergency should occur. He said that Jim Paisley showed a slide show on emergency response to the group and wanted to re-emphasize that everybody should have at least three days of food and water on hand and available in case of emergencies as it will take at least that long for SEMA to get assistance to the area. The board held the final Board of Equalization hearings Thursday morning. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
