The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6280 and 6505, with rock being hauled to Dent County Road 6280. Repair work is still being done on the district’s brush cutter, but it should be up and running by mid-week. Purcell also said that a crew is hauling white rock to the parking lot of Bunker’s new firehouse. The white rock is part of Dent County’s $5,000 in-kind work that was promised when Bunker first started the process of getting a new firehouse.  District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2510, 3020 and 3165, and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2500. Larson also said that a culvert would be installed on Dent County Road 3050 and rock would be hauled to Dent County Road 5330 to repair a washout.  The Commission also put out bids for 1,000 gallons of unleaded fuel and 7,000 gallons of off-road diesel. At the previous meeting, bids were opened on a backhoe for the Road and Bridge Department. Matt Lloyd with Fabick and Company, and Bob White with Potter Equipment were present for the opening of the bids. Fabick and Company bid $87,369 with a lease of $9,500 per year, Erb Equipment bid $78,300 with a lease of $9,500 per year and Potter Equipment submitted two bids; one for $69,515 with no lease and another for $69,422 with no lease. Each of the bids have a difference of various back hoe options. Discussion was held and the Commission will continue to review each bid and all available options before making a final decision. The Commission will meet again Thursday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

A Cuba, Missouri man was sentenced to 75 months in federal prison on Tues., June 21 after pleading guilty to multiple counts of child pornography. 55-year old Steven Fugitt of Cuba, appeared in U.S. District Court before Judge Henry Autrey, where he received a sentence of 75 months in prison for possession, receipt and transportation of child pornography between March and June 2009.  Fugitt pled guilty in March and was sentenced on June 21st.. The case was investigated by Dent County Sheriff’s Department, South Central Missouri Computer Crimes Task Force and FBI.

Half way through 2011, State Treasurer Clint Zweifel has awarded 654 low-interest loans worth more than $200 million, a 49 percent increase over the same time period in 2010, to farms and small businesses statewide. The loans made through the Missouri Linked Deposit Program have impacted nearly 4,000 jobs and farmers across the state. Emergency 24-hour approvals have totaled more than $20 million and have impacted about 700 jobs and farmers. The emergency process is known as the Harmed-area Emergency Loan Priority system, or HELP. In 2010, loans totaling $293 million were approved statewide, which was a 10-year high. Treasurer Zweifel has approved more than $692 million in loans impacting more than 11,250 jobs and farmers throughout the state since 2009. The Mid-Missouri Region, comprised of Audrain, Benton, Boone, Callaway, Camden, Cole, Cooper, Dent, Gasconade, Howard, Maries, Miller, Moniteau, Montgomery, Morgan, Osage, Pettis, Phelps, Pulaski, Saline counties received loans totaled $217 million, impacting 3,000 jobs and farmers. The Missouri Linked Deposit Program is managed by State Treasurer Clint Zweifel and is Missouri-based small businesses with up to 99 employees and farmers are eligible to receive a loan through the Missouri Linked Deposit Program based on lender underwriting standards. Additionally, local governments, housing developments and alternative-energy focused projects may qualify for the low-interest loans. About 130 lenders with 350 branches throughout Missouri use the Missouri Linked Deposit Program. On Saturday, June 25th, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received of a report of a theft from a motor vehicle located at the Tan Vat area on the Current River. The victim stated that a St. Croix fly fishing rod and Ross reel Cimarron two Rio Fly line were taken from the vehicle, along with a purse containing many personal belongings and $495 in cash. On Thursday, July 7th at 6:00 pm, the Dent County Sheriff’s office was advised that some items taken were recovered next to the roadway on YY Highway near the Pine Crest campground. The victim described the items and among the items recovered was the victims coach purse, a credit/debit device, an insurance card, a wallet, a checkbook and other miscellaneous items. The victim stated that another person with her had their phone taken also

Lance Berkman and Matt Holliday will be starting for the National League in the All-Star game tonight in Phoenix Arizona. Teammate Yadier Molina was added as a reserve. Aaron Crow will represent the Kansas City Royals on the squad in the game that can be seen on your regular Fox channel starting at 7:00 with the pre-game festivities.

New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano captured the 2011 Home Run Derby, beating Boston first baseman Adrian Gonzalez in record fashion Monday night. Cano, who was in the derby for the first time in his career, smacked a final round-record 12 long balls to beat Gonzalez by one. The Cards Matt Holiday was eliminated in the first round after a swing of with David Ortiz, Prince Fielder and Holliday. Each had hit five home runs in the first round.

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel has decided to retire and join Ohio State, his alma mater, as an assistant coach. The 35-year-old Vrabel confirmed Monday that he had taken the job as linebackers coach with the Buckeyes. Vrabel joined the Chief’s last year.

Funeral services for Beverly Hadley of Viburnum, age 68, will be held today at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Clyde N. Wilson of Lake Spring, age 82, will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until service time Wednesday. Interment will be in the Rhea Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rhea Cemetery.
