The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6520, 6540, 6545 and 6550 while brush would be cut on county roads 4110 and 4155. Purcell went on to say that two men would be hauling rock and the patching of the chip and seal on Dent County Road 4237 would be done. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2030 and 4350, and the patching of the chip and seal would be done on county road 6150. He indicated work was being done on tractor #4 which is the brush cutter, and once completed, brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2240 and 3220. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles released the sales tax receipts figures from the state for Dent County in July and they were up $18,437.83 from last July in General Revenue, and up $18,436.92 from last July for the Law Enforcement Sales Tax fund. He said year-to-date, the sales tax collections have increased $46,875.64 in General Revenue and $46,867.99 in the LEST fund. That is about a 10.6% increase year-to-date. Ron Blevins from MO-GAS Pipeline was in to inform the commissioners that he is sharing the pipeline mapping with the county assessor for the county mapping and also with the Salem TCRC and the mapping for the 9-1-1 system. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone absentee voting for the August 5th election is going on now at her office. At the last meeting, Sheriff Rick Stallings made a recommendation to accept the meal bid for prisoners from the Country Corner Café for $5.00 a meal, seven days a week. The commission approved his recommendation with a 3-0 vote. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at the courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Thursday, June 26th at 6:04 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Casey's General Store located on Highway 19 in reference to a female subject laying in the grass and drinking beer. The investigation led to the arrest of a 56-year old female of Albuquerque, New Mexico for open container and disorderly conduct. She was issued summonses to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Later that evening at 8:15, an officer was dispatched to the city park in reference to an 51-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and failing to obey a lawful order of a police officer. He was issued summonses to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Later on that evening at 9:53, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of South Warfel in reference to a burglary. The investigation revealed that someone entered a residence and took jewelry valued at $150. On Friday, June 27th at 4:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone unknown took $740 from a residence in the 100 block of South Washington. On Saturday, June 28th at 1:13 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Mobil on Highway 32 and 19 in reference to a theft of fuel. That investigation revealed that the driver of a black mid-sized SUV pumped $53.20 in fuel and left without paying. Later that evening at 8:29, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise, valued at $82.47. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that night at 10:21, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of South Pershing in reference to a domestic disturbance. That investigation revealed that a 49-year old Salem male had assaulted a 43-year old Salem female. He was arrested domestic assault and disorderly conduct, issued summons to appear in court, and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Edinson Volquez fired his second career complete game and the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-1, in the finale of a four-game set. Shelby Miller (7-8) surrendered four runs on five hits and four walks over five frames for St. Louis, which had won six of its last eight coming in. Matt Carpenter’s sacrifice fly accounted for St. Louis’ lone run. The Cardinals will start a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at Miller Park. St. Louis trails Milwaukee by two games in the NL Central. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 6:35.

St. Louis Cardinals All-Star catcher Yadier Molina has a torn ligament in his right thumb, the team announced Thursday. He is scheduled to have surgery today and will miss 8-to-12 weeks. St. Louis recalled catcher Audry Perez from Triple-A Memphis prior to Thursday's tilt with Pittsburgh to replace him. Molina, who was voted to his sixth All-Star Game Sunday and fourth as a starter, is hitting .287 with seven homers and 30 RBI so far this season.

Torii Hunter had three hits, including a homer, and knocked in three runs as the Detroit Tigers rolled to a 16-4 win over the Kansas City Royals to open a four-game series. Billy Butler and Eric Hosmer homered for the Royals. Jeremy Guthrie (5-8) lasted just four-plus innings for Kansas City, giving up eight runs on eight hits and three walks. Kansas City now trails Detroit by 5½ games for the lead in the AL Central. The Royals and Tigers play again tonight.

The Kansas City Royals announced that starting pitcher Jason Vargas underwent an emergency appendectomy Wednesday that will sideline him for at least two weeks. The Royals placed Vargas on the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's matchup with the Detroit Tigers and they recalled reliever Louis Coleman from Triple-A Omaha to fill the roster spot.

The St. Louis Blues have re-signed forward Steve Ott to a two-year contract. Ott joined the Blues last February in a trade with Buffalo and posted 3 assists with 37 penalty minutes in 23 regular-season games for the Blues. He added two assists in six playoff games. Over 11 NHL seasons with St. Louis, Buffalo and Dallas, Ott has 103 goals and 164 assists for 267 points in 696 career games. He's also accumulated 1,355 penalty minutes, 6th-most among active skaters.

Funeral services for Cora Esther Clark of Sedalia, age 72, will be Saturday at 11:00 at the Ewing Funeral Home in Sedalia. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery Monday at 12:00. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Lafayette County Cancer Coalition.

Funeral services for Guylia Fae Phelps of Salem, age 67, will be Sunday at 4:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 2:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Mill Creek Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Project Win.

Funeral services for Ronald F. Swartz will be held at 11:00 Tuesday morning at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Monday night. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the memorial of your choice.

Funeral services for 96 year-old Grace Cox will be Wednesday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery.

Memorial service for Connie F. Carpentier of Rolla, age 64, will be held at 4:00 Friday, July 18th at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Shriners. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
