The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning.  For the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2440, 2470 and 5150.  Simpson also said that grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Road 5610.  District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3260, 3285, 3300 and 3330.  Tune also said that a crew would be on Dent County Roads 2300 and 3210 patching the chip and seal.  Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she received a letter from Governor Matt Blunts office informing counties of grants that are available for historical courthouses.  The grant money can be used for repairs and upkeep of the structure.  At the previous meeting Sheriff Bob Wofford stopped by to request a room in the new judicial annex to house the Sheriff Departments computer lab; Commissioners Simpson and Tune both voted yes.  The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff's Department released their report for the month of June. For the month there were 88 9-1-1 calls, in which all were responded to with 24 of the calls being prank calls. The Department served 155 papers consisting of 122 civil papers, 29 criminal papers and four notices to vacate, plus they served four felony warrants and six misdemeanor warrants. During the month, there was one drug arrest and 12 domestic disturbance calls were addressed. The Sheriff's Department conducted 53 traffic stops, issued 31 tickets, made two DWI arrests and assisted on 23 traffic accidents. For the month of June, the Sheriff's Department investigated six burglaries, eight assaults, seven property damage reports, two reports of crimes against children, four trespassing or property line disputes, and nine thefts. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department also conducted one death investigation. The Department spent 134 hours working in court and four and a half hours testifying. The Dent County Sheriff's Department handled a total of 211 calls during the month and made two community policing appearances. In the Dent County Jail Report for June, there were 43 prisoners incarcerated for the month with an average daily total of 12. There were four transfers to the Department of Corrections and two transfers to or from other departments. During the month of June, the sheriff’s department drove a total of 18,063 miles on criminal investigations, patrolling and prisoner transportation.

Forty-two new Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers will be graduating this morning from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City, MO. This event is the culmination of 27 weeks of training and the event will be held on the south lawn of Missouri’s Capitol. The new troopers will report for duty on July 28^th. The 87th Recruit Class reported to the Academy on January 7, 2008. Those assigned to Troop I in our area are James Conway from Mountain Grove, Matthew Goodson from Jefferson City, Jeffry Leathers of Salem, Bryan Silverthorn from Steelville and Brock Vogt of Rolla.

Captain Randy Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the July 4th traffic crash and enforcement totals for Troop I.  This year’s traffic crash counting period began at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3^rd, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 6^th.  Troop I officers also participated in Operation (C.A.R.E.), which is a multi-state  “Combined Accident Reduction Effort”, which began at 12:01 a.m. on July 3, 2008 and continued to 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 6, 2008. During the July 4th traffic crash counting period troopers assigned to Troop I investigated 20 crashes, resulting in 10 injuries and one fatality. Troopers assigned to Troop I also made four DWI arrests during that period.  During the extended C.A.R.E. counting period, Troop I officers investigated 25 crashes, two of which were alcohol-related. During that same period, Troop I officers issued 151 citations for speeding and 39 to individuals who were not wearing a seat belt. Two motorists were also cited for failing to have their child properly restrained in a child restraint system.  In addition to these totals, Troop I officers assisted 87 motorists.

The Spring Creek Golf Club will hold their third annual Junior Golf Program for children from ages four to fifteen. The cost is only $20 for the three clinics and a tournament. The program begins on Monday at the Spring Creek Golf Club. Sign up your child at the clubhouse and leave a contact number so that you can be reached. The clinics include putting, short irons and long irons as well as Tournament and pool party.

Ryan Howard homered twice and drove in three, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the rubber match of a three-game series. Jamie Moyer (8-6) tossed seven strong innings, scattering seven hits and allowing only one run with four strikeouts and two walks to pick up the win. Chase Utley knocked in the other run for the Phillies. Braden Looper (9-7) gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings, with two strikeouts and a walk, to take the loss. Yadier Molina knocked in the sole run for the Cardinals, who have dropped five of seven. Holding a three-run lead in the ninth with closer Brad Lidge unavailable, the Phils continued with Ryan Madson, who had thrown a perfect eighth inning. He gave up a leadoff single to Rick Ankiel and issued a one-out walk to Chris Duncan, and Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel turned to left-hander J.C. Romero to nail down the win. The Cards will be back in action tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 5:45. You can hear that game right here on KSMO Radio.

Mark Teahen highlighted a four-run eighth inning with an inside-the-park home run, as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Chicago White Sox, 4-1, at Kauffman Stadium. Mike Aviles posted an RBI and a run scored for Kansas City, which avoided a sweep in the finale of this three-game series and in the process put a stop to Chicago's four-game win streak. Jose Guillen also drove in a run in the victory. KC starter Zack Greinke surrendered one run on six hits with eight strikeouts but did not factor in the decision. Jermaine Dye's home run accounted for the only offense for the White Sox, who lost for only the third time in their last 14 games overall. The Royals play Seattle tonight.
