The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the month of June. For the month there were 88 9-1-1- calls, in which all were responded to with seven of the calls being prank calls. The Department served 146 papers consisting of 107 civil papers, 35 criminal papers and four notices to vacate, plus they served 21 felony warrants and 17 misdemeanor warrants. During the month, there were four drug arrests and seventeen domestic disturbance calls were addressed. The Sheriff’s Department issued 42 tickets, made six DWI arrests and assisted on twenty-four traffic accidents. For the month of June, the Sheriff’s Department investigated five burglaries, two reports of vandalism, ten assaults, eleven thefts and eight property damage reports. The Department spent 145 hours working in court and three hours testifying. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department handled a total of 198 calls during the month and made eight community policing appearances. In the Dent County Jail Report for June, there were 49 prisoners incarcerated for the month with an average daily total of 16. There were three transfers to the Department of Corrections, eleven transfers to or from other departments, and there were six transfers to a mental facility. During the month of June, the sheriff’s department drove a total of 18,824 miles on criminal investigations, patrolling and prisoner transportation.

The 13^th Annual Dent County All-School Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 14^th at the Salem High School Cafeteria. Registration and visiting will begin at 10:00 AM. The SHSAA Board will serve lunch at noon and the event is free and open to the public. A $5 donation is asked for lunch and to make the reunion a success. Proceeds from the Reunion fund scholarships for Salem High School graduates. The Bonebrake Center of Nature and History will host a Teddy Bear Picnic Thursday at 11:00 in the morning. This program is designed for preschoolers and lower elementary aged children and their families, but anyone is invited. Bring your favorite bear and share his or her history during lunch under the oak tree. The cost is $3.00 per child or $5.00 for the whole family, and adults are free! The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce their 2007 Hawaiian-themed Mystery Dinner “Murder on Maui” on Saturday, July 21^st at 6:00 pm at the Salem City Hall. Tickets are $22.50 per person, or $45 for a couple. Tickets are available at the Chamber office at 200 South Main.

Ichiro Suzuki hit the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star Game history, leading the American League to continued dominance in the Mid-Summer Classic with a 5-4 victory over the National League. Suzuki's fifth-inning home run gave the American League a 2-1 lead and carried the Seattle Mariners center fielder to the Most Valuable Player Award. Suzuki finished 3-for-3 and Carl Crawford and Victor Martinez hit home runs for the AL, the latter a two-run shot in the eighth that made the score 5-2. The win didn't come without drama. Dmitri Young's two-out grounder to Brian Roberts in the hole between first and second was gloved then dropped for an infield single, and Alfonso Soriano belted a two-run shot just over the wall tight to the line in right for a 5-4 game. The American League pitchers walked three men in a row before Aaron Rowand flew out to right. New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes had three hits and scored once while Ken Griffey drove in two runs and threw out Alex Rodriguez at the plate. The American League continued its dominance, winning for the fifth straight time and improving its record to 10-0-1 in the last 11 meetings. The Senior Circuit hasn't won an All-Star Game since 1996. With the victory, the American League champions will have home field advantage in the World Series.
