The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released their reports. On Tuesday, July 1
st, a deputy was dispatched to 4601 Highway 19 North for a report of stolen copper wire. The deputy met with Mert Bancroft, an employee for Show Me Power, he stated that the ground wires to two of the transformers had been cut as well as three other ground wires. At 6:40 that evening, the Sheriff's Office received a report of assault. A deputy arrived at 223 County Road 4128 at 6:45 that evening and spoke with the victim, who stated that she drove up to 25 County Road 4128 to check on her brother-in-law. She stated that when she arrived at the residence, a male subject assaulted her. The victim stated that she pulled up near the house on the county road and male subject approached her, intoxicated, and stated that she doesn't care about her brother-in-law and then struck the vehicle and reached inside her vehicle and struck her in the face. st at 10:29 at night, the Sheriff's Office took a report of a male who had been injured by an improvised explosive device. Deputies responded to the Salem Memorial District Hospital Emergency Room and gathered information from a witness concerning the incident. The witness stated that a "sparkler bomb" had been manufactured and subsequently detonated, by the injured subject, and that the detonation occurred prematurely, while the injured party was still holding it. th a traffic stop was conducted at Highway FF and Highway 68. The deputy conducted a consent search of the vehicle and recovered illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia. Arrested was 23-year old Alyssa Albright of Franklin County. She was booked into the Dent County Jail and is being held on felony possession of a controlled substance. At 2:14 that morning, the Dent County Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call in reference to a residential structure fire at the intersection of Highway W and Highway EE. The residence was later identified to be 45 County Road 5170 belonging to Mr. David Richmond. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that if anyone would have information on these incidents to call the office at 573-729-3241.
The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce has a new Director, Tabatha Utley. Utley will begin her duties on July 14th. Tabatha Utley is a 1997 Salem High School graduate and has worked in the Salem area for almost 15 years. The chamber's upcoming projects are organizing the Annual Awards Banquet and the Christmas Parade. The board also hopes to reorganize a golf tournament and play host to another Harlem Ambassadors game, which was well received in April. Utley lives in Salem with her husband, Fred, and son, Hayden.
An accident occurred at 8:00 Wednesday morning in Crawford County on Hobo Road at Dan Halbert Road near Davisville. According to the highway patrol report, 19-year old Westley Utech of Steelville was driving a 2007 Dodge Nitro south in the middle of the road and struck the passenger side of a 2005 Dodge Stratus, driven north by 23-year old Samantha Ransom of Davisville, when both drivers swerved left. The Dodge Nitro overturned while the Dodge Stratus spun around several times. Ransom suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. An occupant in the Dodge Nitro, 16-year old Lorenzo McGee of Viburnum, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Utech was the only one not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Westley Utech was later arrested and charged with three counts of felony assault, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, and failure to wear a seat belt. He was taken to the Crawford County Jail and put on a 24-hour hold.
State Auditor Tom Schweich released an audit of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Hazardous Waste Program. In the areas audited, the overall performance of this entity was Fair. The Hazardous Waste program has not completed investigations of potential environmental concerns at 23 identified or potential former manufactured gas plants. Based on past investigations, it appears these sites have a high probability of hazardous waste contamination. State law requires the DNR to investigate all known or suspected abandoned or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. The DNR has not yet completed investigations of potential environmental concerns at 111 former lead smelters and 3,300 former mining waste sites. While these sites are generally exempt from being regulated as a hazardous waste site under state law, the DNR is required to conduct investigations involving releases or potential releases of hazardous substances under its cooperative agreements with the EPA. Lead is recognized as a hazardous material and can pose a threat to public health and the environment.

Lance Lynn earned his 10th victory of the season with 6 2/3 solid innings as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-2, on Wednesday at Busch Stadium. Lynn (10-6) scattered two runs on six hits and two walks while becoming the first Cardinals pitcher since Bob Gibson to post three consecutive seasons of 10-plus wins before the All-Star break. Matt Adams went 3-for-5 with two RBI, Matt Holliday had two hits, two runs scored and another driven in, and Kolten Wong added a solo homer for the Cardinals, winners of the first three meetings of this four-game set. The Cardinals and Pirates play tonight and you can hear it on KSMO starting with the pre-game show at 5:40.
Salvador Perez's go-ahead three-run homer in the ninth inning was the deciding factor as the Kansas City Royals came from behind to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-4, in the rubber match of a three-game set on Wednesday. Eric Hosmer also homered and Omar Infante finished with three hits for the Royals, who have won 10 of their last 13 games against the Rays. Starter Yordano Ventura gave up four runs on five hits and four walks in five innings. The Royals are now 4½ games behind Detroit for the lead in the AL Central as they start a four-game series with the Tigers tonight.

Funeral services for Barbara Anita Doyle of Salem, age 78, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Memorials may be made to the Doyle family for funeral expenses.
Graveside services for Leonard James Sanders of St. Louis, age 59, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family of Leonard Sanders for funeral expenses. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
Funeral services for Floys Lavern Webber of Salem, age 93, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Weese Cemetery in Shannon County. Memorials may be made to the Weese Cemetery.
Funeral services for Guylia Fae Phelps of Salem, age 67, will be Sunday at 4:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 2:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Mill Creek Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Project Win.
