On July 5th, just after midnight, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a party going on at a residence off Dent County Road 502A. Upon entering the residence, deputies found three juveniles ranging in age from 15 to 16 years old and three adults ages 17 to 19.  They also located a 25-year old male hiding in the rear of the residence. Taken into evidence were two marijuana roaches, which field tested positive for marijuana.  Also located at the residence were plant stems and a set of brass knuckles. A 17-year old female was issued a citation for possession of under 35 grams of marijuana. All juveniles present were released to their parents.  The Dent County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Salem Police Department.

An accident happened Friday night at 8:50 in Reynolds County on Route J about 10 miles west of Lesterville. According to the highway patrol report, a Lincoln Towncar driven by 55-year old Susan Barton of Bunker, traveled off the right side of the roadway before she overcorrected and the Lincoln overturned, coming to rest on its top. Barton suffered moderate injuries and was taken by the Reynolds County Ambulance to the Iron County Hospital. The Lincoln was totaled in the accident.

An accident happened Saturday morning at 8:30 in Phelps County on Highway 68 about 12 miles south of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Harley Davidson driven by 43-year old Thomas E. Lyons of Licking, traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting Lyons. Lyons suffered serious injuries and was flown to St. Johns Hospital in St. Louis by the Arch Helicopter. The Harley Davidson sustained moderate damages and was removed from the scene by Spurgeons of St. James.

The Salem Chamber of Commerce membership meeting will be held Wednesday at noon at the Salem TCRC. A presentation will be made by Phil Schmidt about the new website and what we can do to help each other. Lunch will be provided by the Daily Bread. Applications are currently being taken fro the July Yard of the Month contest. Entries are judged on excellent curb appeal, a well maintained and manicured yard, creativity, an array of colors (plants, flowers & decorations) and seasonal additions. Anyone can nominate a yard by contacting the Chamber. Entry forms and complete rules are available at the Chamber office located at 200 South Main Street in the Visitor’s Center. Chris Duncan went 2-for-3 and knocked in three runs, as the St. Louis Cardinals avoided a three-game sweep against San Francisco with a 7-0 victory at Busch Stadium. St. Louis starter Todd Wellemeyer (3-1) pitched five scoreless innings and gave up just two hits. The Cardinals bullpen kept the shutout intact with four scoreless frames. Ryan Ludwick had three hits, including two doubles, and knocked in a run for the Cardinals, who ended a two-game slide and head into the All-Star break with a record of 40-45. St. Louis ended with 12 hits while the Giants finished with just five. Ludwick has doubled in five straight games for the Cardinals who will be sending first basemen Albert Pujols to San Francisco for the All-Star game.

Tony Pena went 3-for-5 and knocked in four runs as Kansas City blew the game open with a six-run eighth inning and defeated Tampa Bay, 12-4, in the finale of a three-game set. Emil Brown, Ross Gload and Alex Gordon each knocked in a pair of runs for the Royals, who took two of three from the Devil Rays and own a 38-50 record at the All-Star break. Jorge De La Rosa (7-9) was the recipient of the run support. The left-hander gave up two runs on five hits through 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking three to pick up the win. Octavio Dotel, who blew the save on Saturday, pitched the ninth to nail down the win.

The annual All-Star Game festivities kick into high gear tonight in San Francisco with the Home Run Derby. The contest of sluggers features reigning champion Ryan Howard of Philadelphia. Also in the contest are Toronto's Alex Rios, Minnesota's Justion Morneau, Detroit's Magglio Ordonez, Milwaukee's Prince Fielder, St. Louis' Albert Pujols and Vladimir Guerrero of the Angels.

Funeral services for Buna Mahan of Salem, age 85, will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 this evening. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Maples, Missouri.

Funeral services for Paul Ray Howard of Bunker, age 22, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Bunker high School Gym. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 today at the McSpadden Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Bunker City Cemetery.

Funeral services for Judith Wood of Vichy, age 57, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, with visitation tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Bonnie Jean Welker of Potosi, age 71, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 today. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery in Davisville.

Funeral services for James E. Malear of Salem, age 75, will be held Wednesday at 5:00 at the Bethany Freewill Baptist Church in Chucky. Tennessee. Visitation will be held today from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Bethany Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Chucky, Tennessee.

Funeral services for David Flegel of St. James, age 48, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Irma Jean Ilges of St. James, age 51, will be held Saturday, July 21st at 2:00 at the St. James Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be at a later date.
