The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Dwayne Breeding from the Country Corner Café was in to see if a decision had been made on the bids for prisoner meals. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said the commission had not heard from the sheriff on his decision on the bids for the meals, but expected to in the near future. Skiles asked Breeding if the sheriff had a way to contact him once a decision had been reached and Breeding said he does. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4122, 4124, 4150, 4155, 4160, 6660 and 6670 while materials would be added to county roads 6630 and 6633. Purcell also said a two man crew would be changing tires on dump truck #115. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2080 and 5260 while materials would be added and grading done on county road 2070. Larson did say brush would be cut on county road 3140. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated Maria Bancroft from the Meramec Regional Community Foundation now has county disaster relief fund accounts set up for Phelps, Crawford, Pulaski and Maries counties that people can make tax-deductible donations to be used into in case of emergencies. She mentioned that Dent County could also create a fund account that would fall under the foundation for use in emergencies. The foundation would work with the county commissioners on how to distribute any money that was donated. The commissioners unanimously approved to set up the fund for Dent County. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone the last day to register to vote in the August Primary will be Wednesday at the courthouse. Kelly Wilson from the MoDOT Central District came in to introduce herself to the commissioners. She will be working with the commission on the use of their BRO funds on the new bridge on the Hospital Road. The next meeting of the county commission will be Thursday at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 7:55 Saturday morning in Phelps County on Interstate-44 just west of Route V. According to the highway patrol report, 40-year old Jeff Hamblin of Sullivan was driving a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan west when he ran off the left side of the roadway, overcorrected, and ran off the right side of the roadway, and struck a ditch. This caused the vehicle to overturn and enter the westbound entrance ramp, where it struck a 2001 Dodge Ram driven by 79-year old Bill White of Rolla. Hamblin suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center and then was flown to Cox Medical Center in Springfield.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced that six people died in traffic crashes, three people died in boating crashes, and three people drowned during the 2014 July Fourth holiday counting period. The counting period began at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3rd, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 6th. The Missouri State Highway Patrol worked 263 traffic crashes in which 121 people were injured. Troopers arrested 142 people for driving while intoxicated and investigated 26 boating crashes, which included three fatalities and 17 injuries, and arrested 13 for boating while intoxicated. Last year, troopers worked 358 traffic crashes in which 157 were injured. There were 19 traffic fatalities during the 2013 July Fourth holiday. Troopers arrested 199 people for driving while intoxicated in 2013. Boating statistics for the 2013 July Fourth holiday included 19 boating crashes, 1 fatality, 13 injuries, three drownings, and 17 arrests for boating while intoxicated. Of the six traffic crash fatalities investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, three occurred in the Lee's Summit area, two in the Weldon Spring area, and one in the St. Joseph area.

An accident occurred at 8:35 Sunday morning in Phelps County on County Road 3060 about a mile east of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a Chevrolet pickup struck a bicyclist, 51-year old Gerald Frank of Rolla, and then left the scene of the accident. Frank suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center.

MoDOT has announced that roadwork continues in Dent County, with roadway maintenance taking place on Route OO between Route O and the end of state maintenance now through Thursday, July 17th. One lane will be open, and crews will flag traffic through the work area. For more information about a project, please contact MoDOT at 1-888-275-6636.

Matt Adams had two of St. Louis' three hits, including a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Cardinals to a 2-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the opener of a four-game set. Adam Wainwright struck out five, allowed seven hits, and walked three over seven scoreless innings for the Cardinals, who have won four of their past six games. The Cardinals and Pirates play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 6:40.

The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Memphis and optioned left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales to Memphis.

James Shields tossed an effective seven innings and the Kansas City Royals shut out the Tampa Bay Rays, 6-0, in the opener of a three-game set. Shields (9-4) surrendered just three hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts to win for the sixth time in his last seven decisions. Alex Gordon and Omar Infante both had three hits, two RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who play the Rays again tonight.

The 2014 MLB All-Star teams have been announced with four St. Louis Cardinals and three Kansas City Royals making the cut. Making the NL team are Cards catcher Yadier Molina for the sixth time, starting pitcher Adam Wainwright for the third time, third baseman Matt Carpenter for the second time, and relief pitcher Pat Neshek for the first time. Making the AL team for the Royals, all for the second time each, are catcher Salvador Perez, outfielder Alex Gordon, and closer Greg Holland.

 Funeral services for Mary Lou Chipman of Steelville, age 85, will be held at 11:00 today at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Debra Kay Harris of Edgar Springs, age 58, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be from 9:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Funeral services for Barbara Anita Doyle of Salem, age 78, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Memorials may be made to the Doyle family for funeral expenses.

Graveside services for Leonard James Sanders of St. Louis, age 59, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family of Leonard Sanders for funeral expenses. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Guylia Fae Phelps of Salem, age 67, will be held Sunday, July 13th at 4:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Mill Creek Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Project Win.
