The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of June. During the month, they wrote seven equipment repair orders, 24 summons to appear in court, 30 warning tickets, and 24 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 19 accidents, four assaults, five burglaries, one report of child abuse, one report of counterfeiting, seven reports of disorderly conduct, one report of domestic assault, three reports of domestic violence, one report of driving while drugged, two reports of driving while intoxicated, two reports of endangering the welfare of a child, one report of forgery, two reports of fraudulent use of a credit/debit device, one report of harassment, and two reports of leaving the scene of an accident. The department also investigated one report of a lost or stolen plate, one report of an open container, four reports of property damage, 26 reports of stealing, one report of tampering, and three reports for a 96-hour commitment. The Salem Police Department conducted one death investigation. The police department received 1,995 calls for service during the month, handled 140 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 89 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 19 hours in court testifying and three hours as court bailiff. The calls in June included 61 calls for escorts, seven calls for an intoxicated driver, two calls for prowlers, four calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, seven calls for an intoxicated pedestrian, five calls for domestic disputes, two calls for a wrecker, five 911 calls, 10 calls for peace disturbances, 11 calls for alarms sounding, seven calls for fights in progress, 10 ambulance assist calls, and two fire calls.  The Salem Police Department drove a total of 10,792 miles and arrested 22 males and 6 females during the month of June.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving burglary, theft from a vehicle, a trespasser and property damage. On Thursday, June 30th at 3:16 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of North Hickory in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a residence and took a safe, cash and items all valued at $1,250. On Friday, July 1st at 5:50 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle.  That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a black 1992 Chevrolet truck that was parked in the 900 block of North Pershing and took items valued at $415. At 11:55 that same morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took tools valued at $255 from a red 2000 Chevrolet truck that was parked in the 100 block of East Dent. Then at 6:04 that evening, an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to a trespasser.  The investigation of the report led to the arrest of an 18-year old female of Salem for trespassing. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Later that same evening at 7:17, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1200 block of East Roosevelt in reference to property damage. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown damaged solar yard lights valued at $12. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary, theft from a vehicle or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please call the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the July 4th holiday weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in south central Missouri. During the four day counting period, which began at 6:00 pm on Friday July 1st and ended at 11:59 pm on Monday July 4^th, Troop I officers investigated 17 traffic crashes that resulted in five injuries and no fatalities. During the same period last year Troop I officers investigated 24 crashes that also resulted in five injuries and no fatalities. Increased enforcement activities by officers assigned to Troop I began Friday morning, July 1, 2011 and concluded at midnight on Monday, July 4^th. During that period troopers made 13 arrests for DWI. Troopers also issued 375 summons for speeding, 78 summons for seat belt violations and 16 summons for not having a child properly restrained in a child safety seat. Troopers assigned to Troop I also issued 568 warnings and assisted 173 motorists.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department reports that on July 5^th, a deputy responded to a call to North Highway 19 for a burglary report. Upon arrival, the deputy met with the victim who said that their residence and two other buildings had been broken into. There were damages to all three buildings that came to an approximate value of $600, while the only item missing was a Troy-Bilt rear tine tiller valued at $750.

Pinch-hitter Ramon Hernandez lined the go-ahead RBI ground-rule double in the 13th inning, as Cincinnati overcame blowing an eight-run advantage to beat the Cardinals, 9-8, spoiling the return of Albert Pujols to the St. Louis lineup. Jon Jay led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer off Reds closer Francisco Cordero to tie the game. The Cards scored two runs in the 6thinning and five runs in the 7th inning to pull within a run. Ryan Theriot had a two-run double in the 7th inning, and Matt Holiday had a solo homer in that inning as well. The Cards will host the Arizona Diamondbacks in a four game set tonight at 6:40 on KSMO.

Jeff Francoeur drove in two runs, Eric Hosmer belted a solo home run and the Kansas City Royals took the rubber match of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox with a 4-1 win. Bruce Chen (5-2) threw six-plus solid innings for the Royals. The left-hander allowed just one run on four hits but walked three batters. Greg Holland tossed two scoreless innings and Joakim Soria set down the side in order in the ninth to record his 15th save. Detroit will be in Kansas City for a four game set starting tonight.

The St. Louis Blues signed forward Scott Nichol and goaltender Ben Bishop to contracts on Tuesday. Nichol, who was given a one-year deal, tallied four goals and three assists in 56 games with the Sharks last season. The 24-year-old Bishop, who was re-signed to a one-year, two-way deal, played in 35 games for the Blues' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Peoria Rivermen last season, compiling a record of 17-14-2.

Football camp will start Monday, July 11^th at Salem High School. Camp for grades 7 – 9 will be held July 11^th through July 15^th from 9:00 am to 11:15 am and will meet in the high school weight room each morning. Camp for Grades 10 – 12 will be held July 11^th through July 22^nd from 5:20 pm – 8:30 pm. Cost for each is $25.
