The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that the Sinkin Township received more rain, with up to five inches in certain areas causing more washouts. He said that a new road pipe was installed were some minor damage was reported and most of the roads are passable. Simpson also said that a crew would be on Dent County Road 4210 patching potholes. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that a crew would be grading and hauling material to various roads in the Boss area, where it was reported that up to four inches of rain fell over the last week. Tune also said that ditches were pulled on Dent County Road 5250. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management has $147,875 in grant money available for solid waste programs. He said that anyone who is interested in applying for a grant to contact MRPC at 573-265-2993 and the deadline for grant applications is August 29th at 5:00 pm.  Commissioner Skiles also brought the considerable expense that will be involved with moving the Juvenile Office to the new building that the county purchased. The cost of moving the Juvenile Office’s computer system is estimated to be around $15,000. That amount is to be split up among the five counties that comprise the Juvenile District and will be paid back to the county in the 2009 Fiscal Year.  Commissioner Skiles said he would like it in writing from the other counties in the district that they would reimburse the county for their part of the $15,000 before the Juvenile Office moves, because he does not want Dent County to be stuck with the bill if any or all of the counties refuse to pay. Commissioner Tune said that Dent County is the district office for the Juvenile Division, so it should not be a problem getting reimbursed. At 11:00 the Commission met with Paul Frisbee of Anderson and Associates to discuss what needs to be done to make the Parker/Weaver building ADA Accessible.  Anderson and Associates is a Civil Consultant Engineering firm from Rolla that does building assessments concerning environmental issues and they also assist in the process of making a building compliant with ADA standards.  Commissioner Tune said the building has two issues the county would like to see addressed and those are making the building ADA Compliant and also the possibility of a bat infestation or problem. The Commissioners and Frisbee then went over to the building to look around and from what he could see, Frisbee said there was no sign of a bat infestation or problem and he would write up a plan for the county to use for making the building ADA Compliant. Frisbee said since the building is getting new insulation, ceiling tiles, carpeting and paint, the improvements should eliminate all health concerns. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be this morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the Salem TCRC located at 1200 West Rolla Road beginning at 7:00. In unfinished business, at the last Board meeting, Chief Jadwin presented an Internet Usage Police to the Board for approval. The Board postponed any decision until they could look at the police more closely. Alderman Bill Riley and Jim Jackson would like to discuss miscellaneous items along with Kenneth Nash, as he would like to also discuss the Brandon Heights paving and Jim McDaniels would like to also discuss the issue of skateboarders, the skateboarding ordinance and the possibility of a new gas procedure on city vehicles. Mayor Gary Brown will give his comments on various issues involving the City of Salem. In new and miscellaneous business, during discussion, Mayor Brown will make appointments to the Planning & Zoning Board, the Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustment, Park & Recreation Board, Utility Committee, Community Services Committee, Capital Improvement Committee and Tree Board. After approval of bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel, the Board will then go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.
