US Representative Jason Smith reports the White River National Blueway Designation for the White River watershed that includes the Current River has been rescinded by the Department of Interior. Smith said "The National Blueways System is gone from Missouri and I will fight to ensure it does not return. This is an incredible victory for those who were rightly concerned the designation would lead to new regulations and land grabs in the future."
The Salem Police Department released several of their reports. On Sunday, June 23rd at 1:42 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of East Third in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 23-year old Salem male had assaulted a 23-year old Salem female. He was then arrested, incarcerated, and issued summons to appear in court. On Monday, June 24th at 10:11 in the morning, an officer was called to MFA bulk plant on Highway 32 in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took four tires and rims valued at $1,000 and caused $125 in property damage. Late that afternoon at 4:53, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a stolen bicycle. The investigation revealed that someone took a black “Hyper Bike” bicycle from the yard of a residence in the 100 block of South Oak. At 5:33 that evening, an officer was dispatched to Holliday Inn Express in reference to property damage. The investigation led to the arrest of a 61-year old St. Charles male for causing $500 worth of damage in a room. He was incarcerated and issued a summons to appear in court. On Tuesday, June 25th at 9:00 in the evening, an officer transported a 30-year old Ironton female from St. Francis County to Dent County Jail in lieu of an active warrant from the City of Salem. At 9:30 that evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Wednesday, June 26th at 1:07 in the afternoon, an officer was called at the Salem Police Department in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a 196cc mini bike, valued at $719.99, from a residence in the 300 block of North Russell. At 2:34 in the afternoon, an officer took a 33-year old Salem female into custody on an active warrant from the City of Salem at the Dent County Judicial Building. She was incarcerated on the warrant. On Thursday, June 27th at 12:06 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of South Pershing in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a red Western Flyer 10 speed bicycle, valued $100, from the yard of a residence. Anyone with information regarding the thefts or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is notifying the public that it will close its offices nationwide today as a result of government-wide automatic spending cuts that took effect. Absent any action to overcome these required reductions, the Department anticipates the need to close and suspend operations for an additional four days over the remainder of the current fiscal year. The closures are also expected on: Monday, July 22nd, Friday, August 2nd, Friday, August 16th and Friday, August 30th.
The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their meeting on Tuesday, July 2
nd. After approval of the consent agenda and minutes from the previous meeting, the financial report was reviewed. Bills were reviewed and approved while file copies and checks were signed. The monthly reimbursement report was presented with a total of 25 calls for the month including three structure fires, one brush fire, seven landing zones, four first responder calls, two motor vehicles, two mutual aids, three haz-mat (gas leaks), one carbon monoxide, one meeting, and one training. The total calls-to-date for the year is at 184. Chief Brad Nash then reported that mapping of the fire hydrants is nearly completed on the west side. Nash then stated to the board that the parking lot is need of repair. The Board will look into options for the repair. The next meeting was then set for August 6
th at 6:00 p.m. at the fire station. The meeting was then adjourned.

Josh Hamilton tied the game with a two-run home run in the ninth inning, and Erick Aybar drove in the winning run later in the frame to give the LA Angels of Anaheim a 6-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the finale of a three-game set. Allen Craig cracked a three-run home run, Daniel Descalso went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Matt Carpenter also drove in a run for the Cardinals, who have lost five of seven. Edward Mojica took the loss and also blew a save for the first time this year. Adam Wainwright, who was recently named the NL Pitcher of the Month for June, pitched eight-plus innings as he gave up four runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Wainwright allowed just nine earned runs over six starts while posting a 1.77 earned run average and a 4-2 record in June. The Cardinals will start a three-game series with the Miami Marlins tonight and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 6:40.
Pinch-hitter Salvador Perez's bases-clearing three-run double in the eighth inning pushed the Kansas City Royals past the Cleveland Indians, 10-7, in the rubber match of a three-game set. Lorenzo Cain had a grand slam and Eric Hosmer added a two-run shot for the Royals, who have won three of their last four games. Kansas City starter James Shields surrendered five runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. The Royals will start a three-game series with Oakland Athletics tonight at 7:10.
The St. Louis Blues signed defenseman Jordan Leopold to a two-year contract on Wednesday. The 32-year-old Leopold was an in-season acquisition, posting two assists in 15 games for the Blues following a March 31 trade with Buffalo. For his career, the Minnesota native has totaled 65 goals and 139 assists in 625 regular-season games with Calgary, Colorado, Florida, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and St. Louis. He has added 16 assists in 65 postseason contests.

Funeral services for Jerry E. Williamson of Rolla, age 83, will be held today at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Vienna Public Cemetery in Vienna. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla.
Funeral services for Ronnie Florence of Salem, age 64, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Florence family for funeral expenses.
Funeral service for Grover Cleveland Barton, Sr. of Steelville, age 63, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Benton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Mitchell Cemetery in Park Hills.
Funeral service for Fred D. Howard, Sr. of Salem, age 91, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Salem Long Term Care or the Carty Cemetery.
Funeral services for Clinton Virgil Todd of Salem, age 82, will be Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00 until the service time. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Clinton Todd Family.
