An accident happened Saturday night at 11:30 in St. Charles County that left a Steelville man with serious injuries. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Suzuki driven by 51-year old Kevin Preis of Steelville, was improperly stopped at a green light on southbound Highway 67 in the second lane. At that time, a 1990 Olds Cutlass driven by 34-year old Austin Anderson of Florissant was driving southbound and attempted to avoid the Suzuki and the front of the Olds Cutlass struck the rear of the Suzuki. Preis suffered serious injuries and was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital by Arch Helicopter. The Suzuki was totaled and removed from the scene by Bolin’s Towing. The Olds Cutlass had minor damage and was driven from the scene.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda during the hearing of persons, Marla Flentje from Austin Peters Groups, Inc. will be attending the meeting to present a profile for the City Administrator recruitment. In bids, the City of Salem had requested bids for the removal or disposal of the house and shed located 714 East Roosevelt that the City purchased to extend the Cedar Grove Cemetery. In unfinished business, at the June 6^th Board of Alderman meeting, the Board opened bids for the Airport Runway lighting project and then those bids were sent to BWR, the consulting firm that is handling the MoDOT grant, for review. BWR has contacted the Public Works Director Bill Huffman, with their recommendation. Huffman will also report on other issues concerning the City of Salem. After approval of bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel, the Board will then go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing litigation and contracts. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, a burglary in progress, and theft from a vehicle. On Thursday, June 23rd at 4:38 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Small Miracles building located in the industrial park in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took 10 air conditioner units from the building. At 6:57 that evening, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of East Bryan in reference to a burglary in progress. That investigation led to the arrest of a 50-year old Salem male for burglary and resisting arrest. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Friday, June 24th at 7:40 in the morning, an officer was sent to a residence in the 100 block of Walnut Hill Drive in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a purse and contents valued at $300.00 from a vehicle. On Saturday, June 25th at 4:14 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 600 block of East Fourth in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that two unidentified subjects were observed going through a vehicle and throwing things on the ground.  Further investigation revealed they took $14.00 in cash from the glove box and fled on foot north from the residence. Then that same morning at 10:28, an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of South Washington in reference to a theft.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took two knives, a pocket flashlight and a change bucket from a red Chevrolet Tahoe. The value of the items is $135.00. Anyone with any information regarding the theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The 2011 South Central Missouri Cattlemen’s Tour will be held Monday, July 25^th through Thursday, July 28^th.  This tour, sponsored by University of Missouri Extension, will feature educational agriculture related tour stops in Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska.  The tour departs from Vienna on Monday July 25. Tour stops include Addison Biological Lab-Fayette; American Angus Association in St. Joseph; Ohlde Cattle Company-Palmer, Kansas; USDA Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska; University of Nebraska West Central Research and Extension Center in North Platte, Nebraka; North Platte Feeders/Gottsch Cattle Company in North Platte, Nebraska; Union Pacific Bailey Yard/Golden Spike Visitor Center also in North Platte; Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park in North Platte; Heartland Cattle Company-McCook in Nebraska; and Hoertel Farms at the Smith Center in Kansas. The cost for the tour is $950 per couple (double occupancy hotel rooms) or $625 for a single.  Cost of the tour includes all transportation via motor coach, 3 nights lodging, all noon meals, and any other tickets/fees associated with the tour stops. Mark Hamilton's pinch-hit infield single in the eighth scored the game's lone run as St. Louis edged Cincinnati, 1-0, in a pitchers' duel to begin a three-game series. Chris Carpenter (4-7) tossed eight shutout innings, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out three in the Cardinals' fifth victory in seven games. Fernando Salas worked a perfect ninth to earn his 15th save of the year. The Cards and Reds play again tonight at 5:34 on KSMO Radio.

Aaron Crow's balk in the bottom of the ninth allowed A.J. Pierzynski to score and give the White Sox a 5-4 victory over the Royals in the first test of a three-game set at U.S. Cellular Field. Crow (2-2) took the loss, allowing three runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Jeff Francoeur and Eric Hosmer both went deep for the Royals, losers in six of their last seven. Kansas City starter Jeff Francis allowed two runs on seven hits through six innings. The Royals and White Sox will play again tonight.

The St. Louis Blues made a move to strengthen their defense on Saturday by signing Kent Huskins to a one-year contract. The 32-year-old Huskins totaled a pair of goals and eight assists in 50 games for San Jose last season. The St. Louis Blues have also re-signed forward Matt D'Agostini to a two-year contract. D'Agostini had his best season in 2010-11 with career highs of 21 goals, 25 assists for 46 points in 82 games. He also tied for the team lead with five game-winning goals.

Football camp will start Monday, July 11^th at Salem High School. Camp for grades 7 – 9 will be held July 11^th through July 15^th from 9:00 am to 11:15 am and will meet in the high school weight room each morning. Camp for Grades 10 – 12 will be held July 11^th through July 22^nd from 5:20 pm – 8:30 pm. Cost for each is $25.
