An accident happened at 9:40 Tuesday morning in Dent County on County Road 6020 about 13 miles southwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1994 Dodge Van driven by 56-year old Shelia Damron of Salem was traveling westbound on Dent County Road 6020. The Dodge was rounding a curve and struck head-on a 1995 Dodge pickup driven eastbound by 71-year old Carla Dutton of St. Louis. Damron suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis by Air Evac. Dutton suffered minor injuries and required no immediate medical treatment. Damron was not wearing a seat restraint while Dutton was wearing one at the time of the accident. The Dodge Van sustained extensive damage and was towed by A1 Towing of Houston, and the Dodge pickup sustained extensive damage and was towed by Whitaker Towing of Salem.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that he received numerous reports of damage in the Sinkin Township due to heavy winds and rain from last Thursday and Friday’s storms. He said that most of the District 1 road crew would be in that area checking for downed trees and washouts. Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5615 and potholes would be patched on Dent County Road 4210.  District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that a crew would be in the Boss area also checking for downed trees and wash outs and one crew member would be picking up a load of oil for the durapatcher in Springfield. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the last day to register to vote for the August 5^th Primary Election is July 9^th. Also at the meeting, Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles read a letter from Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks, which stated her concerns she had about moving her office into the new building. In the letter, Sparks stated that dead bats were found in the building and she was concerned about health issues. The Commission then discussed the new building and which offices should be moved. The issues of storage space, office growth, security and accessibility were all brought up during the discussion.  Commissioner Simpson then made the proposal to assign the Juvenile Office to the new building.  Commissioners Simpson and Tune both voted yes, because for months the Commission has discussed moving the Juvenile and Prosecuter’s Office because of growth and expansion needs and that is the reason the building was purchased. Commissioner Skiles voted no, because he feels there are other options that would better serve Dent County as a whole.  Discussion was then held on which office would be best utilized with the Juvenile Office.  Commissioner Tune then made the proposal to move the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in with the Juvenile Office. Commissioners Simpson and Tune both voted yes and Commissioner Skiles voted no. The Commission also discussed getting quote for fixing the environmental and accessibility issues the building has.  The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

Tony Armas pitched well enough to record a victory in his first start of the season and Ramon Castro drove in three runs, as the New York Mets downed the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-4, in the second game of a four-game set at Busch Stadium. Todd Wellemeyer (7-3) took the loss for the Cardinals, giving up six runs on 12 hits with two walks and two strikeouts in just five frames. Rick Ankiel hit a two-run home run in the first for St. Louis. The Cardinal and Mets play again tonight at 6:55 on KSMO Radio.

St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to terms with their 1st round draft pick, third baseman Brett Wallace, and assigned him to Quad Cities (MWL).

Ramon Hernandez finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, as the Baltimore Orioles held on to beat Kansas City, 7-5, in the second contest of a four-game series with the Royals. Luke Hochevar (5-6) gave up six runs on six hits in six frames to take the loss. Kansas City had won six consecutive games on the road, but has now lost three of four overall. Alex Gordon finished with a double and homer, while Mark Teahen also homered and drove in two to power Kansas City's offense. The Royals and Orioles play again tonight.
