The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting in the Dent County Courthouse. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was unable to attend the meeting so County Clerk Angie Curley appointed District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell to preside.  In the road report Purcell stated that grading would be done on Dent County road 6200, while materials would be hauled to and grading done on county roads 6190 and 6500. Purcell went on to say that a man would be patching chip and seal on county roads 2400 and 6180.  District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that Dent County road 3180 would have materials added, grading would be done and brush cut on it. He went on to say that grading would be done on county roads 2090, 5225 and 3120, while materials would be added to county roads 3160 and 2090. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that July 9th is the last date to register to vote in the August 5th election and that absentee voting continues. Eric Stopp of Nichols, Stopp and VanHoy, Certified Public Accountants, stopped in to visit with the commission. Stopp said that his firm had been engaged by the State of Missouri to do a financial audit and that the State specified what Funds to audit and which ones were not to be audited. He had a number of questions for the commissioners to help assist them in their approximately four-day audit. At 10:00 Sheriff Rick Stallings was in for the opening of bids for meals at the jail. Country Corner Café bid $5.00 per plate for Monday through Sunday. Mainstreet Café bid $5.39 per plate for Monday through Friday. Sheriff Stallings is to review the bids before making a recommendation to the Commissioners. Due to the 4th of July Holiday there will be no Commissioners meeting on Thursday.  The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 in the Dent County Courthouse and it is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released a report involving drugs and endangering the welfare of a child. On Friday, June 27th at 11:57 am, officers, assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, conducted a search warrant at 1105 West Rolla Road.  While searching the residence officers located 42 grams of methamphetamine, 70 grams of marijuana, digital scales and $482.00 cash.  Further investigation led to the arrest of 37-year old Joshua Lee Williams and 25-year old Ashley Nicole Stewart both of Salem.  Both suspects were incarcerated pending the application of warrants for distribution of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and endangering the welfare of a child. 

An accident occurred at 3:35 Monday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 119 about four miles north of Montauk. According to the highway patrol report, 19-year old Brandy Carrell of Salem was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer east on a county road and turn onto the highway, into the path of a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier driven south by 22-year old Christopher Courter of Salem. Courter suffered moderate injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Neither individual was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by a private vehicle. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was towed by Whitaker’s Towing.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will hold their meeting at 6:00 tonight at the fire station. After approval of the consent agenda and review of minutes, the board will give the financial report as well as approve bills. They will then review the calendar as well give the monthly reimbursement report. In old business, the board will discuss the building use policy as well as the reimbursement policy. Chief Brad Nash will give his report, and then the board will discuss any new business. They will then set the next meeting for August 5th at 6:00 p.m. The meeting of the Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released their reports. On Monday, June 23rd at 2:00 in the afternoon, a 61-year old male reported his truck had been stolen. He stated that he allowed a friend to borrow his 2010 Ford F150 and the friend failed to return the truck. The truck is valued at $28,500 and he believes that the truck is currently located in Kansas City. On Wednesday, June 25th, deputies received a call of possible stealing in the 2000 block of Highway 19. Deputies responded to the residence and discovered two subjects, one male and one female, outside the residence. No items were removed from the residence, but an attempt had been made to do so according to witnesses. The male was released from the scene, pending further investigation. The female was arrested at the scene for outstanding warrants issued by the Crawford County Sheriff's Office. The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday but will be in San Francisco tonight to start a three-game series with the Giants. The Cardinals are 44-39 on the year and sit 6½ games behind the Brewers for the lead in the NL Central. You can hear tonight’s game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 8:40.

The St. Louis Cardinals recalled outfielder Oscar Taveras from Triple-A Memphis on Monday. To make room on the roster, the Cardinals optioned reliever Jorge Rondon to Triple-A.

Alcides Escobar doubled twice and matched a season-high with four RBI to help the Kansas City Royals to a 6-1 win over the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a three-game set at Target Field. Salvador Perez hit a solo home run and Omar Infante drove in the other run for Kansas City. Danny Duffy (4-7) capped off his impressive June with 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball for the Royals. The Royals and Twins will play again tonight.

The Kansas City Royals signed outfielder Raul Ibanez on Monday, just over a week after the 19-year veteran was released by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Ibanez's addition was among several moves made by the Royals prior to Monday's game in Minnesota, with the club also recalling 2010 first-round pick Christian Colon from Triple-A Omaha and designating outfielder Justin Maxwell and utilityman Pedro Ciriaco for assignment.

Funeral services for Junior Webster Ellerman of Salem, age 82, will be Wednesday at 10:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Kay L. Sands of Rolla, age 69, will be held at 11:00 Wednesday morning at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla.

Funeral services for Lillie J. Whitaker formerly of Salem, age 81, will be held at 1:00 Thursday at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Judes.
