The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will conduct their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington. During the hearing of persons, the Salem Christian Church will be formally requesting that Henderson Street between 4^th and 5^th Streets be closed to traffic on July 4^th from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for several activities they will be having in the yard for young children. Derick Monday will be in to discuss the new ordinance on the snake ban in the city, and Elmer Leach wishes to discuss the reptile laws and the unfairness of them. Thomas and Martha Russell also want to speak to the Board concerning the proposed ban on animals and reptiles. J.J. Tune will speak to the Board as a representative to a group of neighbors on South Jackson concerning the raising and harboring of snakes and mice at 1107 South Jackson. They have presented a petition against the snakes and mice in their neighborhood. Following the approval of the consent agenda, City Administrator Clayton Lucas will give his report. Mayor Gary Brown will then report on various issues concerning the city. The Board will then adjourn. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen is open to the public.

An accident happened at 5:00 Saturday evening in Dent County on Route FF near Dry Fork Creek. According to the highway patrol report, 25-year old Stephanie Hodges of Salem fell asleep while at the wheel of a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, causing the vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway. Hodges then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to then go off the right side of the roadway and overturn. Hodges suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident occurred at 8:10 Saturday evening in Phelps County on County Road 1050 about a mile east of Highway 68. According to the highway patrol report, 30-year old Joshua Bruff of St. James was riding a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 30-year old Christina Nothnagel of St. James, head-on. Bruff suffered moderate injuries and was flown by lifeline to the Barnes Hospital in Creve Coeur. They were both wearing seat restraints/safety devices at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet sustained moderate damage and was removed by a private vehicle. The Kawasaki was totaled and removed from the scene by Spurgeon’s Towing of St. James.

An accident occurred at 12:40 Sunday afternoon in Texas County on Highway 32 about four miles east of Success. According to the highway patrol report, 18-year old Brandi Booker of Licking was driving a 2006 Pontiac G6 when it ran off the right side of the roadway, came back across the road, ran off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and then struck a fence. Booker and an occupant, 20-year old Ethan Smith of Licking, suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. Neither was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Pontiac was totaled and left at the scene per request of the owner.

The Salem Police Department released more of their reports. On Tuesday, June 18^th at 12:18 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that two males, one identified and one unidentified, took merchandise valued at $913. Later that evening at 9:00, an officer transported a 38-year old female of Ellington to Salem on three active warrants. She was incarcerated on the warrants. On Wednesday, June 19^th at 8:04 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of West Rolla in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone entered a blue 1991 Chevrolet truck and took cash and items valued at $50. Later that morning at 11:32, an officer responded to the US Bank in reference to a counterfeit five-dollar bill. The investigation revealed that US Bank had taken in a counterfeit bill obtained through deposits.  The report will be forwarded to the Secret Service and is under investigation. That evening at 8:13, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of South Carty in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a 50cc dirt bike valued at $900 from a residence. On Thursday, June 20^th at 9:10 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the 1100 block of Highway 32 East in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a Craftsman 17 horsepower riding mower valued at $900. On Friday, June 21^st at 9:00 in the evening, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation revealed that someone took a straight talk cell phone valued at $85.00. At 1:10 that afternoon, an officer was called to the Bank of Salem on Highway 19 in reference to a forgery. That investigation revealed that a 51-year old Ironton male altered a check to read $1,000 more than it was written for and cashed it. At 4:50, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a stolen bicycle. The investigation revealed that a 15-year old male juvenile of Salem had stolen a bicycle valued at $500 from a residence in the 800 block of East First. He was detained and later released to a parent. The bicycle was recovered and returned to the owner. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office for further review. At 7:28 that evening, an officer was sent to a residence in the 500 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation revealed that someone took 14 antique silver coins valued at $600 from a vehicle parked at a residence. At 10:20 that evening, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of North Henderson in reference to a disturbance. That investigation revealed that a 31-year old male of Salem had assaulted a 35-year old male of Salem. Further investigation led to his arrest. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Anyone with any information regarding the thefts or forgery reports is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Jed Lowrie went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to highlight a 12-hit effort by the Oakland Athletics in their 7-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran each had three hits with a home run while Allen Craig added a solo homer for the Cardinals, who have fallen in six of their last eight games. Jake Westbrook (4-3) surrendered 10 hits and six runs over just four frames to take the loss. The Cardinals have the day off.

David Lough went 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBI to lead the Kansas City Royals past the Minnesota Twins, 9-8, in the finale of a four-game set at Target Field. Lough, who doubled three times, also had four runs scored. Johnny Giavotella had three hits and two RBI and Eric Hosmer added a solo shot for the Royals, who won four of their last seven games. Royals starter Ervin Santana gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits and four walks over six frames. The Royals have the day off today.

Funeral services for Frank Barnes of St. James, age 87, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Memorials may be made to the Solid Rock Christian Church.

Funeral services for Thelma Pearl Brand of Steelville, age 84, will be Wednesday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Pleasant Point Cemetery in Steelville.

Funeral services for Jerry E. Williamson of Rolla, age 83, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Vienna Public Cemetery in Vienna. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla.
